Pocket Fighter

If you are fed up of seeing blood and guts splattered all over the screen then take a welcome break with the sweet and cutesy Pocket Fighters. Harmless, gentle, inoffensive violence.

This is hardly a game for purists, and considering that's the audience for 2-D fighters these days, this is one that went largely overlooked. There are numerous references to other fighters from the Capcom universe (and the soundtrack is perfect for the fights, remixed from other specific titles), and that's a great way to pull someone in with an open mind. You don't need to spend hours with a strategy or move guide, but that doesn't prevent this from becoming pure, simple bliss.

Pocket Fighter is even leuk. Het is weer eens wat anders dan het high-tech sadisme van Mortal Kombat 4 en Bio Freaks. De special moves zijn hilarisch en het bij elkaar scharrelen van kristallen heeft ook wel een bepaalde charme. Maar na een paar potjes smacht je toch wel weer naar een echt vechtspel.

Thus, the only real pleasure Pocket Fighter offers is the laughs from the goofy interpretation on the Street Fighter series. Basically, Pocket Fighter is Capcom's parody of its own fighting series.

Capcom made the fighting genre what it is today, but this game is yet another blemish on Capcom's rapidly declining record. If you really feel the need to see Chun-Li dressed up as a cheerleader, then this game is right up your alley. But then, perhaps a psychiatric evaluation would be time better spent.
