Super Play

The problem with RTD is that it's still an R-Type game. You don't play through the stages so much as you memorize them because enemies attack in the same pattern every time. This is one game you finish by repeating levels, not by using your trigger-finger skills. Ultimately, R-Type Delta may look spectacular, but it's the same old R-Type. And, true to the R-Type heritage, the game is very tough!

If there's one PlayStation shooter to own, R-Type Delta is that shooter. Despite a handful of frustrating parts, R-Type Delta gives shooter fans exceptional gameplay, variety, and replay, in addition to carrying the spirit of the original on in style.

Power Unlimited

If I had to pick one PlayStation shooter that has redefined the standard for shooters on the PlayStation, it would have to be Squaresoft's, Einhander. Since then, I haven't seen one shooter that has even come close to meeting these standards, until now. R-Type Delta, with ease, is the best side-scrolling shooter the PlayStation has seen this year and has definitely made a spot for itself as one of the best PS shooters of all time.

Delta's graphics are truly impressive, with huge bosses that approach menacingly from the background. The post-apocalyptic scenery looks okay, but there's nothing particularly imaginative about it. The objects on the screen tend to be large and detailed, but sometimes your ship will run out of real estate, which can be frustrating. Fortunately, the pace of the game is slow enough that you can usually navigate out of harm's way even when things get hectic.
