My first impression of this game? Hmmm, I don’t know. I suppose you could say I wasn’t that impressed. Don’t get me wrong, I like driving games, it’s just that I didn’t immediately find this game that appealing. After playing it for a bit, I completely changed my opinion. I suppose it’s because it was the first time playing a racing game of this kind. I think it’s still an enjoyable game. But one complaint I do have, is the view. I’ve got used to it now, but I’d still prefer a front view. I really like to be able to cut corners very fine. I find that easier with the front view than I do with the current view. If there was a view change option, it might make the later/faster levels more easier. I personally think after doing a lot of upgrading to your vehicle, the races become more like pinball. It’s not impossible to judge the corners and gaps, it’s just damn hard. I feel a view option would have been good. After all, different people like different things.
But for twenty bucks, who cares? RC de Go! is cute, fast, tightly designed, and offers more than enough replay value for its price. The tracks and cars may be tiny, but I'll return to them for more races than I would many full-scale PlayStation circuits.
Gaming Age
RC De GO doesn't try to take itself seriously in any manner. This is a wacky racer, and it shows in every respect, from the visuals to the camera angle to even the cars themselves. As strange as it might seem, Rc De GO is actually bounds better than most of the racing titles that have hit the PlayStation and lately, and anyone looking for something slightly off the wall would do best to give Acclaim's latest a try.
RC de GO! is easily worth its $20 price tag. Fans of RC racers will surely find the game to be the most legitimate interpretation of the hobby on a console system to date, not to mention the most fun.
Game Informer Magazine
What a pleasant little surprise. Coming from Acclaim, the company that brought us the loathsome Re-Volt, I didn’t expect RC de Go to be worth the CD it was pressed on. However, then I noticed it was made by Taito, and was actually a fun throwback to the NES classic R/C Pro Am. This is definitely an arcade game, so don’t expect much depth. Still, it’s cool to see someone doing a style of racing game that’s become pretty rare these days.
Consoles Plus
Bizarre.
The Video Game Critic
RC's music is okay, but the mindless announcer repeats the exact same lines during every race. On the first lap, expect to hear, "It's still early in the race - you've still got time to turn things around" - even when you're winning! But a bigger flaw is the lack a two-player split-screen mode, which could have been a lot of fun. As it is, only RC die-hards will really truly appreciate this game.
