This is a tough game with a controller configuration that gives the buttons multiple uses and tests your concentration and tactical thinking to the max.

For ten dollars there are few choices that can produce the same level of entertainment. Even as an impulse purchase most should be happy with their small investment. An average shooter on one hand and a cheap game available to the masses on the other. Drop the value-meals and get yourself a cheap game.

A harsh, brutal game of stealth and tactics, Spec Ops will surprise gamers with its high production values and solid gameplay. Army Rangers take on a series of missions ever increasing in difficulty and danger with realistic weapons and equipment. The game engine is clean and well designed, the action is tense and violent, and the ability to have a second ranger backing up the player allows for some nice basic strategies. Having a friend play the second ranger makes the game even more fun, as two people attempt to coordinate their actions. Spec Ops has a sharp learning curve, though, and even at its lowest difficulty, will be too much for some players.

Truly, this is not a bad game for the new low price niche that is being touted and left me pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, some of the shortcuts that were made affected playability and detract from the overall effectiveness of the game, but for a few bucks what can you really expect? The game gets easier to play and more fun as you stick with it, but the question remains of how long will you stick with it?

Along with a difficult single-player game, the two-player Co-operative mode is a riot and a half. For 10 clams, this game is a bargain.
