Well, to wrap things up...Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is a thoroughly enjoyable game. It scores big points as a two-player title and holds it's own in the one-player field. It takes the classic gameplay elements of Tetris and transforms it into something new and exciting. And hell, any company that has a good enough sense of humor to poke fun at themselves (the games title says it all), is all right in my book...Nice job Capcom! Now where the hell is Resident Evil 2...

It's amazing how well Puzzle Fighter captures the feeling of delivering the knockout blow. It's our puzzle game of the year and a game every Playstation owner will enjoy.

Retrogaming History

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is a very addicting game. I love games that allow you to beat up on your buddies by using your mind and skill instead of brute force. There are plenty of game modes to keep you playing into the wee hours of the night. If you are a fan of puzzle games, you will really enjoy this game. It is one of those rare games that can be called fun for the whole family. If you have not played this game, it is definitely worth a look.

Femme fatale fighting factor: Grab your girl, plug this game into your PSX, then ignore it while you "wrestle" for a coupl'a hours. If and when you need a rest, wipe the sweat from your brow and play this game. According to Cosmo magazine, your woman WILL play this game. Guaranteed. It's just too good looking to resist, it's funny, and it's charming in that self-deprecating way. Aren't those things that women want in a game? Whoops, I read that wrong. Those are the things women want in a guy. Well, that, and tons of money. And a Ferrari. Lousy stinkin' Cosmo..

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is not the perfect puzzle game, but now that it has been re-released through GameQuest, it is worth a look from all fans of puzzle games or those interested in quick, fun titles that anyone can pick up and play. Intuitive gameplay and nearly infinite replay value in the multiplayer mode make up for a lackluster single-player experience. A faithful translation in the upcoming Capcom Puzzle World for PSP would instantly make that one of the best titles for Sony’s handheld. Just remember to have as many people as possible around when you play - it’s more fun in a group, and if you beat a friend you’re not actually better than, they’re less likely to hurt you.

Though the visuals are pretty and the accompanying music sets a good mood, Tetris fans are still better served by, say, Game Boy Tetris (portable and perfect); likewise, Street Fighter fans are certainly better off with any Street Fighter game. But for anyone looking for a Puyo Puyo-esque game with Street Fighter thrown in for good measure, this game will satisfy.

The Video Game Critic
Most of the sound effects are taken directly from Street Fighter II. An arcade mode allows you to play the CPU for high score, which is recorded to memory card. The CPU opponent is pretty relentless, and if you let him stick around for too long, prepare for an avalanche of counter gems. There's also a head-to-head versus mode and a puzzle mode that lets you unlock goodies. Puzzle Fighter might not be the most addictive puzzle game around, but it may be the most stylish.

Game Revolution
It seems a shame to lower the grade of a game that showed so much potential, and for such a seemingly minor flaw. But this 'minor' flaw changed the gameplay dramatically. And suddenly you had to play that way if you wanted to win. And suddenly it wasn't as much fun. And suddenly it wasn't the most popular game in the office any more.
