Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins

Tenchu is a breed all its own, and Tenchu II continues the tradition with class and integrity. I had mixed emotions about Tenchu II about three months ago, having heard it was more of the same as the first. I was excited but skeptical. To my relief, this prequel is as much as I could have asked for on the PlayStation. Yes, there are limitations to what a PlayStation can visually show, but it hasn't stopped the gameplay from being pure ninja-stealth goodness. In a way Tenchu and now Tenchu II is a throwback to older, harder games, because it challenges you to play a perfect game, to stay unseen, to achieve total ninja nirvana by getting all stealth kills. Hell, I like hard games, I never use cheats, and when you perform in Tenchu II you are rewarded.

Tenchu 2 is grafisch geen toppertje en dat gaat ten koste van de gameplay maar dat neemt niet weg dat er eindelijk een vervolg is op een van de beste game die ooit is gemaakt. Tenchu 2 mag je eigenlijk niet missen.

This prequel to the original Tenchu does a good job of building on the previous game. If you are new to Tenchu, your learning curve will just be higher. This is a very challenging and interesting game which will take much time to master - its not a speedy run-through-the-levels game, you definitely have to hone your skills and "think like a Ninja" to be successful and really excel. How you get through the levels is as important as completing them. This game will provide many hours of enjoyment and frustration as you master the art of the Ninja.

Tenchu 2 est un excellent jeu. Plus qu’une suite, il innove dans le genre et prouve qu’il n’y a pas que Metal Gear Solid dans la vie.

Tenchu 2 is an excellent sequel in that it provides better graphics and sound, more levels and characters, superior enemy AI, and a host of other improvements over the first title.

Tenchu 2 förlorar en poäng eftersom det är lite för likt originalet. Men det är ändå beroendeframkallande och möjligheten att ändra uppdragen (Mission Editor) gör spelet värt att återvända till.

Slutligen måste dock sägas att Tenchu 2 trots sina brister är riktigt spännande, vilket gör att man gärna försöker att klara "den där banan" en gång till. Att ljudlöst smyga fram och försöka att överrumpla en fientlig samuraj är riktigt nervkittlande, och efter att ha besegrat en svår boss inträder ett sinnestillstånd av tillfredsställelse. Men spele kräver ett stort tålamod, och den som är benägen att kasta sin handkontroll i väggen bör nog hålla sig ifrån det.

Plus qu'une vraie suite, Tenchu 2 passerait plus aisément pour une extension du premier volet. Les changements techniques sont quasiment inexistants et le jeu s'avère rapidement moins prenant que son prédécesseur... Malgré les nombreuses missions proposées et l'éditeur de niveaux inclus, Tenchu 2 ne saura certainement conquérir que les plus farouches Ninjas de salon.
