Tracks have to be researched in minute detail before you’re in with the smallest chance of keeping up with the pack, let alone gaining pole position. Visually there is nothing here that could be regarded as special and there are none of the lighting effects that are now standard. You know you’re in for a cheap review when you’re told that you could do worse for your money and that you should give a game a go if you are a fan of the genre. But in this case, it’s an honest remark. If you’re a total petrol head and can find beauty in a game that time has been less than kind to, take your tenner to the store and do what you know must be done. The rest of you would be well advised to track down the far superior Toca 3.
WARNING: this is not an arcade racer… it's a SIMULATION. After playing this game for a week, the only slight niggles I had about this game were the highly sensitive nature of the analog control (it kind of made the cars seem like they were on ice at times and so I reverted back to the good old fashioned button pressing method) and the fact that on-screen messages often distracted you at vital points on the track. Other than that this game is right up there with the best of the rest.
About five people in this country are actually really into TOCA League racing, since it's mostly an English phenomenon; kind of like a British NASCAR. That's not to say that another TOCA game wouldn't be cool. This is one of the most incredible driving simulations on the PlayStation, rivaling the powerhouse Gran Turismo in graphics and level of sophisticated driving physics.
Toca 2 Touringcars is een van de beste racegames van dit moment. Wat mij betreft behoort het samen met Grand Tourismo, Colin McRae en Formule 1 '98 to de top racegames van dit moment.
If you're looking to relive the fun of a Destruction Derby-style racing game with a bit more focus on the actual racing, or if you want to take the sporty Ford Fiesta for a few laps around the track, TOCA 2 is for you. Just don't expect a racer on the same level of the games that inspired it.
