Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 is one of those games that I’m pretty sure most everyone has played at some point. Much like the first one, I figure everyone either had it or knew somebody who did. I reiterate that I’d put it at the top of the Tony Hawk mountain as the best in the series, and if you haven’t happened upon it before, I would recommend it vociferously. It’s familiar enough for veterans of the first game to jump into, and the little additions, especially the manual, add enough to the sequel to make sure it’s not Tony Hawk’s Roster Update, not to mention it’s hard not to like a game where you can hop on a charging bull and get points for it. There are a couple flaws, yes, but I’d say THPS2 is still well-deserving of the five-snowflake score, and if you pop it in, I think you’ll remember why.
What can I say? THPS2 is a must own game that will eventually be available for all systems, except the N64. Don't ask me why they decided to cancel the N64 version, but I really do feel for you Nintendo owners out there. This is a must have, must play game. But once again, I doubt you needed me to tell you that.
But to be honest, that's about all I can complain about. This is that rarest of sequels, one that betters the original from start to finish. It's so good it should come with a warning label - or at least some methadone.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is one of the most solid sequels created. There's a lot more of what everyone loved in the first and the skate park editor provides infinite levels for die-hard fans. The two player still rocks as do the new locals to skate in. Don't wait any longer if you don't have this game - THPS 2 is the most fun and solid purchase any Playstation owner can make.
The Birdman is back, and for those of you out there like me, who thought Tony Hawk's Pro Skater could get no better, we stand corrected: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 proves there is a state of being beyond perfection. With the addition of three new pro skaters, a character editor, and a park editor, THPS2 is one game that will never get old. You really would have been actively not paying attention to not hear about how THPS2 is going to be one of the greatest games released this year. If you haven't played it yet, then this review is just wasting your time. Anything I could say about the game will be for naught once you pop it in and experience the closest thing to Nirvana in this terrestrial plane.
Smile folks! The best skateboarding game ever has just been given the boot by a younger, stronger, and bigger version of itself. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is here, and Activision has made some brilliant additions.
Pro Skater is definitely bursting with replay value, and it's also a real blast to play. Any title of this vast quality easily deserves 5 GiN Gems. Just don't expect me to wear Vans, have my hair hanging from the side of my head, or committing felonies on my board.
Very few perfect scores have ever been given out by Game Informer, and I’ve never scored anything a 10, but games just don’t come better than this. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is the most addictive, playable, and versatile game the PlayStation, or any other console for that matter, has to offer. Neversoft, I tip my hat to your respect and knowledge of skateboarding and of the video game-buying public that very evidently comes through in playing this game.
After playing the first game in this series for 100's of hours I couldn't wait to get my hands on the sequel.
When I booted the game up I was waiting for a huge kick AND I got it. The intro is better than the one from the first game so I immediately felt that this game wouldn't be a disappointment for all of us THPS fans out there.
Tony Hawk 2 offers even more tricks than before. With the same basic trick controls as the first Tony Hawk game (using directional pad combined with buttons), TH2 offers smooth gameplay with twice the goals as the original. Combining all of this with being able to increase the stats of skaters and build your own park makes Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 a MUST BUY for anyone, even if you're not into skateboarding. Seriously, pick up your copy today (or I'll have to come over and perform a 'face plant' on you!!!).
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. The mere concept of a sequel to last year's surprise hit is enough to send chills down the spines of the game's die-hard fans. Luckily, those chills are not in vain - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is the perfect example of how to make a sequel to an already amazing game. The levels are bigger, the trick catalog is more plentiful, the number of goals per level has been doubled, and the already stunning gameplay has been honed even further.
With the first Tony Hawk release, Neversoft blew my socks off and pumped my veins with adrenaline-filled gaming ecstasy. Now, picture if you will the same experience, only 100 times grander. Tony Hawk 2 is, without a doubt, the most impressive PlayStation release of the year, and one of the best sequels ever created. The addiction is inescapable! All the new features, like the Park Editor and Create-A-Skater, offer infinite replayability set within the same dynamic gameplay atmosphere you love so dearly. Honestly, I could play this game for a lifetime and still enjoy every second of it. I would have joined The Gonzo Gamer in rewarding this game with a phat 10, but background pop-up is still an issue, and choppy framerates alter the multiplayer experience. Other than that, this sequel is perfect.
Being the most anticipated games of 2000, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 turned out to be the most addictive game of the year and is my final contender for "Game of the Year" in the PSX Extreme 2000 awards that will be sometime late December. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 will go on sale on the 20th and I hope that you have a pre-order slip for the game because a frenzy may begin, and it could very well sell out everywhere. My final comments on THPS2 is that this is one amazing game that I never expected to get as good as it was now, the visuals, the gameplay, the sound, the control everything about this game is perfection or near perfection. With all of these modes jammed into one 650MB CD, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is without a doubt the most addictive videogame ever created.
If it could get any better than this, I'm not sure how. We'll know when Neversoft brings out part three for the PS2, I guess. Meanwhile, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is one of the best games to ever grace this or any console. It looks great, it sounds great, it controls perfectly, and it brings you back for more in so many ways. The hidden areas, the hidden gaps, the secret characters (including Officer Dick, a teenage Powell-era Tony, and more), the archive of righteous FMV clips, they're all a great incentive to keep playing, but besides all that, this game is just a ton of fun to play.
This game shows what can be accomplished with time, effort and a great idea. The superb graphics, wonderful sound and ingenious gameplay make THPS2 a must have for any PlayStation gamer. The vibration function is used very well and while some tricks may be easier to pull off using the D-Pad, the analog control also executes nicely. So get some friends over, grab a controller, sit back and have fun because this is a game that will not soon be forgotten. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 earns the Player's Choice Award.
In allen (!!!)
There’s the core of Tony Hawk 2’s genius, the thing that elevates it to more than just an extreme sports game and something of a generational watershed. By refusing to take itself seriously, it allows us to refrain from doing so ourselves and so before beating oneself up about the days lost, pounds gained and brain cells fried, it’s necessary to stop and ponder what was accomplished. “Absolutely nothing” is a perfectly healthy conclusion. Few nothings, though, are quite this entertaining, and that is, quite possibly, the definition of time well spent.
This is a beautiful, wonderful, and absolutely life-conquering beast of a game… it's the supreme champion of extreme sports gaming, and I just hope that Neversoft don't ruin it by attempting a further update, because I'm absolutely certain they're simply not going to be able to follow this up. Enjoy your slippers, Tony; this is something to tell the grandkids about.
Over all THPS 2 is one of the most fun games of the year and is graphically splendid as well. You should buy this game if you have a PlayStation, or enjoy a fun and exciting game that every one I have ever met likes. You should not, however, buy this game if you don't like skateboarding as you wouldn't appreciate the finer points of the game.
Kudos to developers Neversoft and publishers Activision for finding a way to make an already fantastic game more interesting and challenging. If you'll excuse me, I've got to perfect my "540 frontflip" and "Mute Grab" if I want to win the contest in Marseilles.
Tony Hawk 2 is not only the best skateboarding game on Playstation, it’s also one of the best games the system has to offer. Tony Hawk 2 is a must buy for skating fans and non-skaters alike. With many modes and great gameplay, Tony Hawk delivers everything a quality game should plus a lot more. What a great way to finish off the Tony Hawk series on Playstation. Buy it as soon as you can. You won’t be disappointed at all and will continue to play THPS2 for a very long time.
Tony Hawk 2 has everything that made the first game successful and more. The game can get pretty frustrating at times, but it's just so damn fun that you'll always come back for more. It's not as fresh and original as the first game, but it's a worthy sequel that fans will spend weeks, even months, enjoying.
It's hard to know what else to say about TH2 that many of you don't already know. In fact we can dare to say that many of the true skateboarding fans out there have already bought this game, and are probably playing it right now. If by some miracle some of you are actually reading this review, then you are most likely thinking about how many superb things about this game that I have forgotten to mention.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 picks up right where its predecessor left off. The goal is still to take a skater through a series of stages -- completing sundry tasks in each in order to advance to later stages. These tasks run the gamut from collecting the five letters of the word "skate," to besting a predetermined high score, to finding mysteriously hidden tapes. There are even competitions thrown into the mix as a way for players to show off their skills and advance further. And it's all made easy thanks to Neversoft's control scheme -- that is still ingenious to this day -- which allows for all manner of stunts and tricks to be performed almost anywhere in the sprawling 3-D stages.
I have to admit that the additions to the game are commendable. They add some variety and enhance an already enjoyable gaming experience. However, this doesn't mean the game is monumentally better in the long run. With so much added to the game in the form of new moves and level objectives, the game takes on the feeling of a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1.5. The objectives are essentially unchanged, which entail performing tricks, searching for items and repeating the process all over again on each progressing stage. It's also hard for me to forget that it was only four months ago that I was playing the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. As much fun as that game was, playing a sequel this soon that calls for more of the same, quickly becomes repetitive. The added moves and game personalization do help to a degree, but unless you are the most die-hard skating fan, any effects could be fleeting.
