This killer disc makes it's closest competitor, Cyber Speedway for the Saturn, look like a weak 16-bit game. So get ready to rumble: Conquering Wipeout's relentless action will take serious effort, but you'll love every second of it.

From start to finish, Wipeout is a complete joy. The only problem with this game is that you'll play it so much and so intensely that you may never blink again! I know I don't.

One of the best games to date for the Playstation, Wipeout stands as a mark of excellence for the developers at Psygnosis. Good job, boys!

Das "Ridge Racer"-Syndrom: Hat's sich die "Wipeout"-CD erstmal in der Playstation gemütlich gemacht, weicht sie nicht mehr von der Stelle. Der Rennablauf ist noch rasanter als beim Namco-Konkurrenten, die gegnerischen Gleiter richtig fies und das Extrawaffen-Angebot ausgewogen. Wer einmal mit Top-Speed durch eine kurvenreiche Schlucht gerast ist und dabei noch ein paar Beschleunigungs-Felder ausgenutzt hat, ist verloren: Entweder Ihr spielt getreu dem Motto "nur noch einmal" bis zum Sonnenaufgang, oder Ihr begebt Euch gleich in die Hände eines Psychiaters. Selbst wenn Ihr alle Strecken siegreich beendet habt und Euren Kumpels im Link-Modus keine Chance mehr laßt - die Rundenrekorde könnt Ihr immer noch verbessern. "Wipeout" ist neben "Ridge Racer" das eindrucksvollste Argument, sich eine Playstation zuzulegen.

These are minor points, though. WipeOut is a good, solid game that pushes more boundaries than most. Ten years from now, when most other games have been long forgotten, WipeOut will be viewed as a classic.

All things considered, Wipeout is a great racing game and, while it doesn't look as good as its sequel, it's still a fun racing game that offers a considerable amount of speed and some challenging races, as well as a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it's over a bit too soon but Wipeout will last any gamer for weeks on end.

Ahhh memories! This was one of the very first games I got for my Playstation. WipeOut is a futuristic racer with vehicles that hover above winding futuristic tracks, and the game spawned a series of sequels that continue to this day. WipeOut was awesome back in the day, but it hasn't aged well. The name is totally misleading, since the crashes are not the least bit dramatic.
