Finally, wrestling fans, it's the big show, the Rock's show, on PlayStation. THQ and Yukes team up to bring you a WWF game that, like the WWF's Curt Angle, has three 'I's of its own: Innovation, Ingenuity, and Incredible Fun.

The bottom line is that WWF Smackdown is, far and away, the best wrestling game on PlayStation. It gives some to the N64 Wrestlemania game's tighter controls and crisper animation, but Smackdown is no slouch in either department, and it even bests Wrestlemania in graphics and features. This is the kind of game that makes you look at everything that came before it as a long trip toward a dead end. Finally, there is open road ahead in PlayStation wrestling, and it all started here, with the words "good wrestling game."

Overall I have to say that even though it had a few shortcomings, the action and playability makes WWF Smackdown an excellent game. Each match is filled with fast and furious action from beginning to end, and the graphics and camera angles are truly awe-inspiring. The behind the scenes plot development is a great indicator of how wrestling games are going to look in the coming years, and adds a new dimension to just kicking and punching. I would totally recommend buying this game.

The little things that debut in SmackDown, such as a never-ending season mode and inklings of a plot, really make the game feel fresh and new.

The game play is fast and addictive. The interface was easy for anyone to pick up. This is a great party game and will be enjoyed for many hours. WWF Smackdown showed some innovation with added features of story lines and alliances, but with some bugs and create-a-superstar shortcomings, WWF Smackdown falls short of the championship and will have to settle as a heavyweight contender.

Definitivt den tänkande spelarens fightingspel. Andra wrestlingspel kanske har mer blod och snyggare ditt och datt, men WWF Smack Down är ett helgjutet och nonsensfritt wrestlingspel.

WWF Smackdown bénéficie d'une réalisation honorable qui impressionne notamment par ses plans de caméra variés. La jouabilité très simple permet de réaliser des chopes impressionnantes dès le départ et l'atmosphère globale du jeu ravira tous les amateurs de catch. Un soft tout en finesse donc, qui permettra aux joueurs en mal d'action de donner libre cours à leur vivacité. Le plaisir risque cependant d'être de courte durée.

Storylines make or break a wrestling federation in today's world and finally video game makers have noticed this integral part of the sport (yes, sport). Considering the lack of real competition in the wrestling game genre on the Playstation, Smackdown wins this competition by default. Here's hoping that the inevitable sequel improves the storyline function, further making the video game experience more like the real thing.
