How can this review get 0 out 1, while this one gets 2 out of 2? No offence to Davy S but Black Wolf's review is so much better. And it still surprises me that one can find a review as that unhelpful. Did that person even read trough the review? Or did he just look that were was too much text and therefore it's immediately crappy?

I`m just wondering by what yardstick do people judge all these reviews with? Why do so many good reviews get a lot of hate and so many two-sentence reviews 5 out of 5 love?

An example (ain't that bad at all IMO... unlike a lot of other bashing reviews I can actually understand this guy's sentences and there's actually some thought put into it.

Compare that review with this one and you`ll probably understand my confusion.

It's important to understand that users rate reviews for being helpful or unhelpful, not good or bad. Sure, that Dig review is better than the Oblivion review. Nevertheless, I'd rate it as unhelpful because in my opinion, it doesn't do justice to the game.

It's all about opinion, man, and you know how weird those things can get.

I mean, just look at Indra's latest NW2 review, 9 people actually found it helpful! So what can we do? Nothing. It's just a matter of opinion.

We all seem to have different opinions about the meaning of helpful - to me it means the review told me some things I found interesting and helped me to better weigh a decision about whether to play it or not. 99% of the time I'm not reading reviews of games I've already played - so the reviewer knows more about the game than I do and mostly everything they say will be helpful. Except of course for the "This game sucks" or "This game rulez" kind of stuff. As far as I'm concerned, if a reviewer has put thought into their review and really dissected what they liked or didn't like, it's helpful.
