Overall, Portal 2 is among the best video games ever made. Fans of adventure or puzzle games must not miss out on this gem of a game. The story is amazing, the graphics are great, and the gameplay is rewarding. Unfortunately, Portal 2 does not feature an Advanced Chambers mode akin to that in the original Portal. Aside from this singular criticism, the game is as close to perfect as it can possibly get. In my eyes, Portal 2 is a definite contender for the best game of the year.

Valve has created a masterpiece in Portal 2. The depth of content, the mind-bending mechanics and fantastic experience are almost certain to satisfy ardent fans of the first game; and to all newcomers to the series, it's as simple as this: prepare to have your mind blown. Over and over again.

That's Portal 2, a game that gleefully throws new ideas at a core concept and makes them stick. For sheer design, its only competition is Super Mario Galaxy 2. In the same way that Nintendo build playgrounds around Mario, Portal 2 crafts its world so that the star is always that piece of equipment in your hands. A diverse piece of engineering that opens up staggering possibilities, sometimes supplemented by just a box, a button and a door. Then Valve wrap it all up in their astute understanding of video game storytelling, providing a world and characters that stick in the mind even after those credits roll. Funny, clever, mentally stimulating and always good honest fun, Portal 2 effortlessly represents the medium at its very best.

All these minor triumphs are a credit to Valve’s subtle but potent marriage of writing and game design. If there was ever any doubt that Portal could be expanded into a big, narrative experience with all the bells and whistles of a mainstream gaming hit, have no fear. Valve solved that puzzle with Portal 2.

Really, there isn't anything more that can be said about Portal 2, it's is simply one of the best games ever released. People may find the campaign to be a bit short for their money, but I can give you a few examples of other games that were equally as short and completely worth their asking price as well, such as Ico or Dead Space 2. The quality you get from this shorter experience far outweighs the fluff a lot of other games would throw out there, plus you'll want to play Portal 2 at least two more times to find the easter eggs and to listen to the developer commentary. The initial experience alone is worth the asking price, everything after that just seriously felt like a bonus. If you can play through Portal 2 and find reasons not to like it, then I think you might need another medium of entertainment. Because seriously, I don't see it getting any better than this for quite some time. Bravo Valve on creating something truly magical with Portal 2.

There's probably not too much replay value to the game – once the puzzles have been solved, they've been solved and the only thing that may motivate you to go back and do them again is to sweep up any missed achievements. In the case of Portal 2 it doesn't really matter that much that the game will probably only provide a single play-through before you're done with it because you'll have so much fun with that play-through. Portal 2 is really a worthy successor to Portal, and is a great example of a very well-designed, well-implemented game. I recommend it highly. I don't give out many 100s, but if this game doesn't deserve that score than none of the other games that I've given it to do.

Portal 2 is something special, it has amazing presentation, graphics are sublime, gameplay is balanced, the characters are memorable, it has plot twists, puzzles that drive a story along and a big finish. It is a game that is amazing because of the sum of its parts. It is unfair to pigeon hole it as a puzzle game, an action game or anything really. Portal 2 is a wonderful mix genres and a great advert for gaming, There is no such thing as perfection, no matter how much we strive for it, therefore a couple of minor niggles do not distract from a top score. Portal 2 is the Game of the Year so far, it will take something special for it not to take that accolade. Sometimes the anticipation of a games release can leave the final thing feeling a little flat. That is not the case here as Portal 2 lives up to all expectations and then some.

Valve's stated ambition was to leave you wanting more, and in this it's just a bit too successful: while it's far bigger than the original, an experienced pair of players will still be able to burn through the entire package in a weekend. While it's worth replaying to catch the dialogue you missed the first time round - a spectacular rarity in any game - and to hunt out the hidden Rat Man rooms, there isn't enough variety in the way you solve puzzles to sustain repeat runthroughs. We're going to need DLC, and plenty of it, to keep our co-op partnership going. Still, it seems unreasonable to penalise a game for being so good you want to keep playing it. While you won't spend as long on Portal 2 as the infinite online of, say, CoD, its shorter, more concentrated high is irresistible.

This was one sequel that was both worth the wait, and everything it was cracked up to be. Even with the minor gameplay tick for accessibility mentioned above, it still averaged out to a 5-gem game, which it fully deserves. By the way, I believe a statement was issued that this was to be the last Valve title to offer an exclusive single-player experience. I hope this isn't the case, because I was about to start the "We want our Portal 3" chant.

I don’t think Portal 2 will end up being the watershed “ah ha!” moment that Portal was. There was a certain magic to the first game that will never be recaptured. That being said, Portal 2 is better in just about every way possible. The puzzles are more intricate, the writing is better than most movies or TV shows I’ve seen, and the production value is everything you’ve come to expect from the guys that brought you Half-Life. Portal 2 certainly isn’t a perfect (no game is) but it is one that I can’t recommend enough.

When it comes to making video games, a strong argument can be made that Valve is among the best out there. They are like the Pixar of the videogame industry, setting the standard for others, never disappointing, and delivering product on a consistent, predictable schedule. That last fact actually only applies to Pixar, but you get the idea. Portal 2 is an absolutely worthy successor to the original, and it is, objectively, a better game. Nothing will ever replace the first time you solved a puzzle in the original Portal, or when GLaDOS began to serenade you during the end credits, but you will find yourself just as absorbed into the world and congratulating yourself on your personal genius every few minutes. Portal 2 is a perfect example of what video games should be, and there is no reason to pass it up.

If the start of this review didn't convince you, hopefully these words will, but I'll say it again: buy this game. Do not hesitate, do not wait for feedback from friends (they'll all tell you the same thing, and may spoil things), just trust me on this. There aren't many things as sure as this purchase, and to dawdle now would only be cheating yourself out of one of the best experiences ever created in this still-burgeoning medium. What an incredible accomplishment. Bravo, Valve.

Sporting some of the best writing and voice work in years (as well as some deviously designed puzzles), Portal 2's single-player campaign is superior to its predecessor in every way. It's the co-op mode, however, that makes this 2011's first must-play game -- even for those gamers that don't like first-person or puzzle games.

Okay, complaint time is over. I’ll accept those flaws in exchange for the recorded lunatic rants of Aperture founder Cave Johnson, for Wheatley’s charming stupidity, for a brief glimpse of the human woman who became GLaDOS, and for GLaDOS spending the bulk of the game as a potato. Oh, and the puzzles. I'll accept the issues for the puzzles. As a plot-delaying device, they’re pretty awesome. So is it worth those 60 bucks? Hell yes!

One more word of caution, Portal 2 is a huge time suck. The sense of accomplishment you get when beating a puzzle will cause you on more than one occasion to utter those famous last words, "just one more and then I'll be done." You'll end up beating the game in a minimal amount of time that way (it is a longer campaign than the last one), but the rest of the world may fall by the wayside for a little while. You won't regret your choice to continue, but those around you may get frustrated.

With a thrilling single-player quest and one of the best cooperative experiences ever seen to date in a video game, Portal 2 is an all encompassing, mind-blowing gaming experience. It's got action, intrigue, mystery, personality, another wonderfully addicting ending score, and the best puzzle solving I've ever encountered. If you have yet to experience the series, first tackle Portal and then treat yourself to Portal 2. Hands down it's one of the most original, engaging, and incredible gaming experiences we'll see this year.

While Valve still refuses to give me closure to Half Life, it is games like Poral 2 that not only regains my love for this team of developers, but keeps my little fingers nimble for the infamous day when Dr. Gordon Freeman makes his triumphant return. Let's just hope that the Portal gun and GLaDOS find their way into my Half Life universe and not via mods on the PC. Whether you love Half Life, the original Portal, or have never played but wondered what the fuss was about, you owe it to yourself to play this wonder of gaming technology. Portal 2 has enough appeal to welcome any gamer no matter what type they claim themselves to be. The end result is a gaming experience you will not soon forget.

By concentrating on iteration rather than re-design, Valve have created a sequel that improves upon the original and yet stays true to its memory. The puzzles, the story and the expert way in which players are taught to use the new tools all combine to create what is very possibly the most absorbing game the puzzle genre has ever seen.

When you review, you need to think about your predilections and your preconceptions. I admit I am a gamer who loves strategy - I am happiest when I am being mentally challenged by my games, and I strive to be smarter and faster than everyone else. I put more value in beating someone in Starcraft than I ever did in my kill/death ratio. However, I can say that while Portal 2 may not be for absolutely everyone, it undeniably deserves a place among the greatest games of all time. Mass Effect, Half-Life, Oblivion, KOTOR, Starcraft, Okami, Diablo, Ico, Bioshock, Doom, Grand Theft Auto, The Legend of Zelda: the list is long, and it has a new member. I am honored to have reviewed Portal 2, and look forward to playing it again tomorrow.

Despite being so much bigger than the original, I actually felt a little melancholy once Portal 2 was over, simply because it's so rare to find a game this smart, this funny, and this rich with detail. It elevates Portal from an odd, memorable experiment to one of the most significant series in Valve's stable with a unique voice and an incredible level of quality that all developers should aspire to.

There's so much I want to share with people, as well as so many things left to talk about, but doing so would spoil so much of the surprise and fun that is in this game. Suffice to say, Valve has managed to create a game that bests its predecessor in nearly every regard, and has demonstrated to the world that they still have what it takes to create a game that deserves the hype surrounding it. While it's unclear if we'll ever see GLaDOS or Chell again, this much is certain: Portal 2 is one of the best games of this generation.

In conclusion, Portal 2 is a textbook example of how to make a great game, but nothing more. Its narrative focus robs the game of its predecessor’s quirky charm, but gives players a much stronger sense of purpose – medium-term objectives roll by at a steady pace, like Half-Life 2 without the boring bits – and there is still plenty of scope in discussing the psycho-sexual imagery of splattering a level with gel. Is this the last we will hear of GLaDOS? I doubt it, but I’m hoping she’ll now take some time out from her solo career to provide backing vocals in Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

Portal 2 is, without a doubt, one of the best games ever made. It's a game that not only seamlessly blends puzzle and adventure elements together, but makes a name for itself as a true "comedy" game, where witty dialog and laugh-out-loud concepts have been given an equal billing with the gameplay itself. It's funny, it's challenging, it's inventive, and it boasts memorable moments that will stick in your mind and make your hair stand on end every time you think about them. Gaming simply does not get much better.

Genius is an often overused word but Valve's work on Portal 2 is genius in the truest sense. The studio has exhibited exceptional creativity in the game, even compared to some of its other masterpieces. If we could give it 11/10, we would.

To talk about the game anymore would simply ruin the experience for those who haven’t played yet, but I think you get the idea. Despite the lack of challenges that were so prominent in the first game, Portal 2 packs a lot of content for the price. It’s everything the first game was and more, with very inspired level design, some ingenious puzzles, and some of the best writing you’ll ever see in a video game. It might just be Valve’s best game yet.

So do we need Portal 2? Do I need it? Maybe not, but I'm sure as hell glad it exists. The portal aspect has probably reached its zenith in Portal 2, and given the way the game ends I don't think there's much room for a Portal 3. Indeed, I would say it's time for portals to branch their physics-defying awesomeness into other genres. Think of it—someday we critics might snarkily dismiss "run of the mill portals" as a mundane, outdated mechanic like key fetch quests or unskippable cut-scenes. However, in the meantime we can give Portal 2 the jubilant praise it so rightly deserves.

Portal 2 doesn’t have the visual fidelity of a Gears of War or Killzone, but its clean sharp lines and exemplary art design more than make up for any minor deficiencies in the ageing graphics engine. It may not blow you away with its graphics, but Portal 2 was never going to be a visual showcase. Instead, it once again highlights what can be achieved by a team of imaginative, technically brilliant and clearly very intelligent game designers working at the very top of their game. Portal 2 may not have the wow factor of its predecessor, but it delivers just about everything else you would hope from a sequel to a perfect game.

Quite simply, Portal 2 is a masterpiece. A lesson to every other developer out there on how to tell a story in a video game whilst executing every gameplay mechanic to perfection. Masterful writing, engaging characters, wonderful music, and so forward-thinking that it even includes cross-platform, cloud-saving play between Steam and the PlayStation 3. Utterly essential in every way, Portal 2 is going to be in everyone’s game of the year discussion when the time comes, and it damn well deserves every ounce of praise lavished upon it. Buy Portal 2, you deserve it.

Portal is perfect. Portal 2 is not. It's something better than that. It's human: hot-blooded, silly, poignant, irreverent, base, ingenious and loving. It's never less than a pure video game, but it's often more, and it will no doubt stand as one of the best entertainments in any medium at the end of this year. It's a masterpiece.

Is Portal 2 a worthy successor to one of the most surprisingly lovable games in recent memory? I've tried to figure out a way to answer that simple question with any response other than a resounding "yes", but I'm completely incapable of it. With this sequel, Valve has ramped up the brain-cramping puzzle elements and expanded the cast with immensely lovable characters, and they did it just enough to make sure the whole thing feels fresh and interesting for the longer campaign. I think it's very likely that you'll come away with a huge smile on your face once you're done. Some PC gamers will wait until the inevitable Steam sale hits, but no matter what you pay for it, I'm betting that Portal 2 will completely pull you into its charming world and make you lose track of time for hours on end. Frankly, not many recent games have been doing that.

The reward of “finding” the story by listening to the voices of GLaDOS, Cave, and Wheatley and finding information in the environment makes for a very satisfying experience. Pile on the “Oh, yes!” moments of solving some really great puzzles, and there’s every reason to start thinking about Game of the Year accolades. It’s that good.

In the end, it’s hard to think of anything Portal 2 does wrong. It’s hard enough to think of anything it doesn’t do as well as it could have. Valve has taken the original premise and shown what they can do with a longer development time and a more polished, full-featured release. Portal 2 no longer relies on the same “short but sweet” simplicity that helped make the original such a classic, but it doesn’t need it. The sequel keeps varying both the style of the obstacles and the environments in which the puzzles are set at just the right intervals, so it never feels like you’re doing the same thing over and over. All the while, the consistent display of impressive voice acting and some of the funniest game writing ever leaves a lasting impression of these memorable characters and Chell’s ordeal. The addition of the superbly designed co-op campaign just adds yet another layer of brilliance on top of an already spectacular single-player experience.

Portal 2 may be the best game of 2011. It may be the best game of all-time. It is certainly the best game you can play right now. I loved every moment I spent with Portal 2. I’m even enjoying looking at the game sitting on my shelf knowing how much fun I will have again someday when I revisit Aperture Science, alone or hopefully with a friend who may not have played the game. Portal 2 proves that you don’t have to kill things to make a great game and more importantly…science is fun!

Portal 2 is a game of two unexpected halves, a brilliant single player campaign that proves that the proof of concept nature of the original game can be fleshed out into a much larger, varied, and consequently more memorable experience. And a second half that proves that the Portal gameplay can also provide a great multiplayer experience through the introduction of a co-op campaign as lengthy as the single player campaign, and one that somehow though the introduction of a another player manages to elevate the gameplay as opposed to hamper it. Portal 2 is a triumph in every sense of the word, a wonderful experience from start to finish and one that you won’t soon forget.

Having not released a game in almost two years, Valve had to come out with something special and Portal 2 really hits the spot. There is an almost immeasurable amount of polish on this game and we should expect nothing less from the developer that brought us Half-Life 2. Playing Portal 2 is fun beyond comparison delivering an experience unlike any other available in gaming. Complete the single player mode and you will most certainly feel smarter for it, not to mention laugh your socks off in to the bargain. After completing Portal 2, it's great that Valve have continued on their original premise because this is the perfect game for those gamers caught in the doldrums of endless first person shooters, racers and sport games. Originality is the key here and Valve have succeeded on just about every surreal and cerebral level with its puzzles. The introduction of new characters into the story plus the wit and sarcasm of both Wheatley and my favourite AI creation in existence, GLaDOS truly create one of the most unique gaming experiences of 2011. Just make sure you leave your gun at the door when you play this one. Just be warned that this is the most frustrating game that I have ever played as well.

With Portal 2, Valve willfully defied common logic by creating an exceptionally detailed yet mainstream friendly experience out of, essentially, a puzzle game. While a dozen identical shooters try and seize the hardcore and casual crapfests prey on the weak, Portal 2 sneaks in and goes for both with exceptional characters, hilarious writing, and genuinely inspired puzzles - all through the affable lens of a first person perspective. Or, in other words, Valve brought a novelty size calculator to a gun show and confidently managed first prize. Again.

Disregarding the Robot Enrichment center – and I am actively disregarding it – Portal 2 has some of the most entertaining writing and voice acting of any videogame, ever. It has some of the most innovative and rewarding puzzles, ever. And it contains one of the best co-op experiences, ever. That is a lot of superlatives for one game – and all are seemingly unrelated. What a bizarre amalgamation. I mean, good writing, innovative puzzles, and engaging co-op – have those three things ever been in a game together? Good writing is only supposed to exist in role-playing games and the occasional first-person shooter. Innovative puzzles? Well, those are reserved for budget indie titles. And we typically only see engaging co-op in shooters, mostly violent ones. But Portal 2 has it all and is, simply put, phenomenal.

It's hard to sum up a game like Portal 2. It doesn’t have enough shooting to be a shooter, but it's not abstract enough to be a puzzle game. It's unique and challenging enough to attract the hardcore, but its offbeat humor and intuitive design will make it a hit with casual players. I'll forget about categories and call it what it is: the most original game in years (a big accomplishment for a sequel). It's also Valve's biggest console success. The game looks great on PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PS3, but the proverbial cake goes to the PS3 version, which comes with a free computer copy. On top of that, Portal 2 is that rare game with crossover multiplayer support, meaning PS3 players and computer gamers can portal it up together. That means if you have a laptop and a PS3, there’s no reason to play in cramped split-screen mode. That is, unless the PSN is still down by the time this goes up.

The gameplay, while brilliant and innovative, can drag a bit at times, but the writing carries the game through those times, and the mostly great graphics and perfect audio seal the deal. How Portal evolved from a simple student-born concept in 2007 into a character-rich, hilarious, intelligent, 15-plus-hour wonder in 2011 is a testament to this sequel’s impeccable, deft design. A less consumer-minded developer might’ve split Portal 2’s contents into a trilogy — one game revolving around gels, a follow-up with funnels, and a third title with light bridges and a co-op mode — and they probably would’ve gotten away with it, but Valve’s kitchen-sink package proves they deserve the fan adoration they receive. Portal 2 isn’t dessert — it’s a delectable multi-course meal at a five-star restaurant. Make your reservation now.

To reiterate, Portal 2 is fantastic. Its single-player provides ample amounts of genuinely funny and compelling narrative and some great puzzles, while the co-op takes the game's mechanics and pushes them to their absolute, playable limit. You're only getting around 10-12 hours after delving into both halves of the game, but it's a concentrated thrill, where its weakest moments are still standards that most developers can barely reach in the first place.

I thought Valve would have a tough time making this something other than Portal with a bunch of different levels, but I was very wrong. Without having the player fire a single bullet, it has produced one of the best FPS’s to date.

"Portal 2"? Einfach genial!

Portal 2’s high points rival “the cake is a lie,” though they’re perhaps less quotable (which is honestly fine – repeating GLaDOS lines stopped being funny a long time ago). You’ll never forget the moments that accompany some of the achievements/trophies. The game’s quality stays consistently outstanding throughout; there isn’t a minute of filler content to be found anywhere in single-player or co-op. I would have loved to see something unique done with the story, which doesn’t end anywhere interesting despite a reasonably satisfying ending. I would adore seeing Portal stretch its wings beyond being a series of puzzles that almost always have one correct solution waiting to be found. That said, the next game I want to play is a second run through of Portal 2, because the existing formula is excellent and brilliantly executed.

The first game introduced such great technology with the portal gun and laid down a solid framework from which to gain further inspiration; the sequel simply had to be even better. The good news is that Portal 2 doesn’t disappoint; in fact it's exceeded our expectations. From the captivating storyline and the casting of the brilliant Stephen Merchant as Wheatley, to the sheer volume of puzzles and the ingenuity that has gone into their design, Portal 2 is everything it promised to be and much more.

If you've been waiting a long time in eager anticipation for Portal 2 then it's hard to see how you'd be disappointed. The single-player campaign doubles the length of the original, and is crammed with even more hilarity and devious puzzles than ever before, as well as extending the concept with the introduction of larger environments and new mechanics like the gels. The co-op is amazingly fun, and while the story is less complex, the gameplay is even more concentrated insanity than the single player. If you have an affinity for the series, Valve, puzzle games, funny games, or just awesome games in general, you must not miss out on Portal 2. GLaDOS won't let you.

We can’t ignore that Portal 2 does have a few tiny issues, because it does and they are there. At the same time, we can’t focus on them too much. Portal 2 is a truly fantastic game, a worthy sequel in almost every way and a joy to play. It may not pack the surprise-factor of the original game – a fact which deprives GlaDOS especially of much of her early power – but it’s still just as fun, fast, funny and fantastic as we’d expect a second Portal game to be. It’s a game you should own and one you won’t regret picking up.

As much as people want to joke on how long Valve takes to make a game, you have to hand it to them; they do rise to the occasion and make the game worth the wait. Portal 2 is everything that fans wanted, more of everything while keeping the feel of the original game. That’s an incredible feat by a very talented bunch of developers.

In closing what I think makes Portal 2 such a great game is that is has a little bit of every kind of emotion crammed in to the game, whether it’s humor (which there is quite a bit of), anger, frustration, relief, joy and much more. You also have all these puzzles that get harder and harder but in the end you almost always find out how to solve them. This makes Portal 2 challenging and rewarding at the same time which considering the style of this unique puzzle game a great title. You can’t really beat that and to top it off it is rated ‘E’ for Everyone making this a game that everyone can enjoy. If you have never experienced the world of Portal, you are with out a doubt missing out.

Overall, Portal 2 manages to act as a worthy successor to the original Portal, retaining its core mechanics while adding quite a lot of new things and other great additions that enrich the puzzle solving experience. Portal 2 has a top notch story, an extremely smooth gameplay, from the single-player campaign to the co-op multiplayer, and will no doubt be regarded as a serious contender for the game of the year award at the end of 2011.

Some say it took them only 4 hours to complete the single-player portion of Portal 2, while others say it lasted upwards of 8-10 and refuse to believe it could’ve been done any faster than 6. I finished in about 5 hours, and while I didn’t spend excess time poking around for easter eggs, I wasn’t rushing at all and enjoyed it immensely. The co-op levels were great fun, as well, offering 3 hours of diversion for myself and a capable partner. Just don’t expect much of a story from the co-op, or any real reason to play through that again until you forget how to solve the puzzles. Not only is Portal 2 well worth the price of admission, it’s the best game released so far this year and a serious contender for GOTY 2011. Just steer clear of the in-game storefront that wants to charge you $5 for a hat or $7.50 for glasses to wear on your co-op robot.

The very short duration and lack of multiplayer were the most important shortcomings signaled by the community regarding its predecessor, so Portal 2 came to directly solve these problems, while at the same time further evolving the gameplay that was so beloved by millions of fans. If Portal was an experiment, a child who didn’t know if he’ll reach adulthood, Portal 2 can be seen as the teen years of the series. And if the evolution will continue in the same manner, I can’t wait to see what it will look like when he’ll be all grown up.

The original Portal benefitted from its brevity. It had a concise story paired with inventive first-person puzzle mechanics that challenged you to be creative while pulling the trigger. Portal 2 makes the original look like the prototype it was. It's filled with a larger cast of characters vividly brought to life through brilliant writing and some of the best voice acting in video games. Its puzzles are challenging without being unreasonable, and, once you're finished with the single-player mode, one of the best co-operative experiences on the market awaits. Valve cuts no corners and finds ways to make you care about everything from the major characters to the cubes used to solve puzzles. From the beginning of the single-player story to the end of the co-op mode, Portal 2 is a novel, unforgettable experience.

Portal 2 is an outstanding sequel that did everything it needed to do to transition a bonus game into a full-fledged franchise. The series definitely has life in it and, if the developers continue to put this much love and effort into sequels, I could easily see it becoming one of the staples of the industry. If you enjoyed the original, this is a must-own title. If you enjoy puzzle games, go buy it now. Needless to say, I cannot recommend this game enough to anyone who enjoys a unique and entertaining experience.

Is Portal 2 worth your money? Absolutely. It is engaging, clever, genuinely funny, and all-around unique. The puzzles are always a challenge, but none of them go into the realm of the impossible – clever thinking and analysis is always enough to solve them, and gives a sense of accomplishment when you get it right.

Portal 2 is a memorable, challenging, beautifully designed sci-fi story. The developers walk the line between overly frustrating and underwhelming; most every puzzle will tax your problem-solving abilities, but none will cause you to throw your arms up in despair. They introduce awesome new mechanics and combine them in later puzzles, so you never feel blindsided or unprepared. The control is rock solid and smooth, the campaign is of an agreeable length, the co-op is a gimongous bonus, the audio and voice acting is some of the best you’ll ever hear, and the rewards are great. I still think some of the puzzles could be a little too obscure, especially in the second half, and I’m not the biggest fan of the plot. There’s also the fact that, once solved, a puzzle is never so much fun again. Therefore, replay-ability takes an unavoidable hit. Still, this ranks right up there with the most accomplished and satisfying productions of this generation.

If you enjoyed the original Portal, getting the sequel is a no-brainer. I have enjoyed the single and multiplayer campaigns thoroughly and can’t recommend this game enough. Even though the tests are similar in nature to the original game, the character development is what makes this sequel truly stand out. While my kids enjoy the original Portal, I’m a little hesitant on loading this on their machines due to the mild language. My kids are 6 and under so I’ll hold off until they’re a little older. After all, it is rated E10+.

I’m making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.

Being the first full-length game in the series, Portal 2 is an ambitious project that succeeds even more so than the original. Adding several hours’ worth of gameplay, co-op missions, and the promise for free downloadable content all make this an incredible package. It’s hard to see replaying a ton of times, but as a rental, Portal 2 is a must-play. Without a doubt one of Valve’s finest works.

Valve's sequel is another fantastic display of no-filler design; gameplay is relentlessly imaginative and evolves seamlessly from effortless hurdle to mind-boggling physics test - and we'd throw ourselves through the ceiling for more. Imaginative, challenging, hilarious and sometimes a bit exhausting, Portal 2 is one of 2011's most interesting, challenging blockbusters. Just make sure you take your sweet, sweet time with it - because you'll probably feel a hole in your head once it's done and dusted.

Portal 2 is, in short, a terrific game, throwing you headfirst into a realm of intense and brain-teasing puzzles and great humor. The story is richer this time around too. The trademark Half-Life style atmosphere is there... we feel it, oh yes we do, as much as we felt the magic that made the previous Portal game so exciting to play. Things were spiced up with the robot-flavored coop mode, which we highly recommend to any gamers who are on the lookout for a decent challenge in addition to some serious giggling. Some may miss more competitive aspects such as leaderboards, but that doesn't mean they should sit this one out. If anybody had something bad to say about this game, well, don't be misled by it. You should buy this game. It's worth every penny.

Portal 2 is, in some ways, the raw essence of a game. Its puzzle-solving gameplay manages to be challenging but accessible. Every time you solve a room, you are filled with satisfaction, while at the same time thinking ‘How could I not see that?’ Even if it didn’t have a plot, it still would be fantastic, and the fact that it actually gets engaging is a bonus. Add to that one of the most satisfying co-op game experiences out there and an endearingly geeky sense of humour, and you have one of the most complete games of recent years. While it does not push boundaries of graphics or sound, it innovates in terms of intelligent, challenging gameplay. My only complaint is that the game has to end, but with rumours of a map-maker coming out in the near future, its appeal could well extend on to infinity.

Valve has once again released a top-notch game. The story and characters are engaging, new features are intriguing and the co-op is an amazing edition. Fans of the first game will not be disappointed here. This game is definitely worth checking out.

Valve has worked its magic yet again with Portal 2, creating a mind-blowing game that's simply superb in both single-player and co-op. In other words, it's hole-ly essential.

In the end, Portal 2 went extremely close to knocking my socks off and living up the immense amount of hype I'd heard about it. The puzzles are taxing, and new elements are deftly thrown into the mix to keep things interesting. There is a definite feeling of satisfaction when you complete some of the trickier puzzles that may just border on euphoria. The voice-acting and script are top-notch, perhaps the best I've ever heard. The game does lose its way a little bit during the middle, but that aside it's hard to find fault with it. If you have any interest in puzzle games, or games that ooze humour Portal 2 comes highly recommended.

Portal 2 is a finely polished experience that you should not miss. It is also fairly short but ultimately that isn't the biggest issue - the chronic lack of challenge for those of us that already know how to "think with portals" is. A lot is saved by the excellent co-op mode but I weep for the missed opportunities. Still, you really can't have difficulty settings for puzzles and everyone has to be able to complete the game. Definitely a masterpiece, but could have been so much more.

There's no real way around it, Portal 2 is simply one of the best games of this generation. It's creative, wonderfully detailed and most importantly, a complete blast to play.

At its core, Portal 2 very much feels like a science experiment where you’re the test subject. It holds nothing back, particularly with its dark and dry humour, and expands on mechanics and physics that helped define the original. Dark, mysterious, funny and entertaining, Portal 2 will challenge you in all the right ways.

Portal 2 had a lot to live up to, but it doesn’t feel like it’s living in its predecessor’s shadow. Portal has rightfully earned its place in pop culture, and that frees Valve to expand on the franchise in ways they see fit. Portal 2 is a bigger and more organic experience, and even if it’s not as perfect as its predecessor was, that’s part of what makes it so much more human.

Xbox 360Console Obsession
Perhaps if I’m honest, Portal 2 is not the most instantly re-playable game in the world (Valve are working on some downloadable content which is due for release in the summer, though), and loading times are a little longer than most would like, but this is still a truly excellent sequel that is witty, satisfying, clever, and bigger and bolder than the petite original game. If Portal was a mini masterpiece, then Portal 2 is one of mega proportions.

Portal 2 definitely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but then, what game is? Thanks mainly to Wheatley and GLaDOS’s cuttingly witty dialog, its solo story feels less lonely than the original and the new co-op mode means that problems can be shared, often with hilarious results. If you want a game to test both your hand/eye coordination and your grey matter while simultaneously keeping you genuinely amused with some sharp humour, look no further.

Portal 2 delivers, and it does it in style, creating one of the most meticulously designed, thrilling and delightful playgrounds we’ve ever seen. It’s a game with a magical take on momentum, where single bounds over tall buildings are business as usual, where every surface is a potential launchpad, and the entire experience is a belly laugh. Valve has a pretty good record with the number two, but attempting to inflate Portal’s perfectly formed package could easily have been a disaster. Naturally, the sequel doesn’t feel as bracingly fresh as the 2007 game, but it’s precisely the sort of dizzying follow-up the original deserves.

Portal 2 is more of the same, but only in the best of ways. Valve didn't mess with a winning formula, and the end result is that Portal 2 is a better game than its excellent predecessor. It keeps the same witty humor and high-quality level design but adds a few new tricks to turn the interesting puzzles into exceptional ones. The co-op campaign is a boatload of fun and adds extra value to the package. Portal 2's only problem is that it's a hair short and lacks replay value. Despite this, it's some of the best gaming I've had in recent memory, and it still manages to be worth the full price. If you remotely enjoyed the original Portal, you'll absolutely love the sequel.

If you’re still reading this review and aren’t yet convinced you need to play this game, then there is little hope for you. Between the marvellous story, perfect pacing, evolving/subtle soundtrack, challenging but not frustrating puzzles, and one of the absolute best ending sequences the likes of which may never be seen again, there is literally nothing to complain about this game. And the social gamers amongst us will be completely satisfied after running through the co-op story with a friend (or even complete stranger!). While it could be argued that Portal 2 has little replay value, that will become a moot point as user-generated levels are produced, which are expected to be deliverable to the PlayStation 3, as well as traditional DLC. Portal 2 will go down in history as one of the best lunacy-inducing sequels ever made, and if you didn’t get that last reference then you need to play one of the greatest games ever crafted in the gaming industry.

Valve's Gabe Newell has said that Portal 2 is the best game Valve has ever done. That's a pretty tricky statement to judge, because almost every game the company makes has been amazing. In the same way it doesn't really mean anything if I were to say it is one of their best games ever. Instead, let me just say this: Portal 2 managed to surpass my very high expectations of it and it's the perfect sequel to the classic Portal. It does everything right and doesn't take a single wrong step. It's a game that everyone should play and I can't recommend it enough.

Instead, it radiates outward from its predecessor, simultaneously illuminating the world that gave rise to Portal and continuing the adventure that began there. At a time when so many games just look and feel more and more the same to me, Portal 2 is unique and wonderful. Clearly it’s going to be one of the best sequels in gaming this year, and it won’t surprise me to see people saying it’s the one they liked best.

Portal 2′s clearly aimed at fans of the original, and rightly so – Valve have made no concessions to the uninitiated beyond the first hour or so: the puzzles might be a tad easier, but there’s much more of them (the game takes between 10 and 12 hours to get through) and there’s huge sections well outside the white walls of the labs that take real concentration. The biggest disappointment is realising that, once you’re done, Valve Time will mean we’ll be without the warm bosom of GLaDOS for – presumably – years. Regardless, games like this don’t come around very often, and if you miss out on this one you’ll be skipping one of the finest examples of the medium the industry has to offer: Portal 2 is compelling, exciting, wildly capricious and, most importantly, laugh out loud funny.

If there’s a bad mark on Portal 2’s amazing score sheet, it’d be the fact that this is in every sense of the word a sequel: anybody jumping straight into this game without knowledge of what happened in or how to play the first game, would quickly find themselves on the receiving end of some mercy-killing neurotoxin. Portal 2 is dense and rich in both flavour and complexity, but it only really works as a companion piece to the original game and relies heavily on you caring deeply about the prequel events. If the original game didn’t really grab you, this isn’t a sequel that’ll “fix all the mistakes” and make a believer out of you - this is a game for the fans, and nobody else. That said, if you are one of those fans: this is the game you’ve been waiting for. It’s bigger, better and smarter in nearly every way, with the same ingenious puzzle design and signature Valve quality that make it a pleasure to play. Don’t miss out on what is easily one of the funniest, most clever games of 2011.

Portal 2 is pure genius. With gameplay growing ever more addictive and new characters always threatening to steal the spotlight, Portal 2 is one of the best games of 2011. A perfect and true sequel to the 2007 hit, Portal 2 provides everything that a fantastically designed sequel needs. The graphics and style are noticeably better, the writing is top-notch, the gameplay is as enthralling as before, the developer commentary keep players entertained, and the rest is tied nicely together with beloved characters. With “still alive” quotes and cake references kept to a minimum, Portal 2 steps the franchise out from the small tech demo with a neat story and into a work Valve can proudly place next to its Half-Life franchise.

We completed the single player game in a day (with several breaks for comfort and the necessities of life), for an estimated total of 7-8 hours’ worth of brain bending entertainment. There are a few more hours to be had in the two player co-op game, and Portal 2 offers more gaming hours than the original. Ultimately, however, you have to weigh up the cost against the replay value – which is low, unless you’re into collecting trophies or DLC. For us, this was the only downside to an excellent overall package, and a truly worthy sequel to one of the most engrossing and popular puzzlers around.

What seemed like a silly one-off intended to lead in to the next Half-Life (whenever that is coming) has turned into a premiere franchise that can stand on its own two legs. Portal 2 is everything a good sequel should be. It continues the story without repeating it, and adds new modes and features without mucking up what worked about the first game. And, most importantly, it still feels fresh. Too often we play sequels simply out of habit, because we liked earlier installments. There's no such sense of weariness about Portal 2, which can proudly stand up to any game, sequel or not. And then drop those other games through a hole in the floor.

Portal 2 manages to live up to the hype and be everything we loved about the first Portal, but with more. More tests, more toys and especially more of the great campaign’s story and humour. Valve has done a bang-up job that’s worth your money, but even more so if you are able to take advantage of the new co-op mode.

Overall, Portal 2 is an excellent game. Though it suffers from repetitive gameplay that may turn some gamers off, it’s an accessible puzzle game in a genre that some people find hard to get into. Its elegant design and intelligent puzzles coupled with fantastic dialogue and visuals, make for a memorable gaming experience. Fans of the first game are sure to be impressed with this sequel, but newcomers will probably be impressed even more. It’s the type of game that is so accessible that it’ll make puzzle game cynics forget they’re playing a game from a genre they’ve never liked previously.

What you have then is a package brimming with quality. The singleplayer campaign expands on the original and turns it into a fully-fledged game. The co-operative mode is an entirely separate beast, with different chambers and puzzles, and can be accessed via split-screen or online. And then, as a final treat, you can revisit Portal 2 and listen to the developers comment on this game’s creation. Were life to imitate art, we might all be shooting portals and stepping out through the other end. Indeed, this is both mathematical and storytelling art-work; it teams a gripping narrative with an inventive gameplay mechanic that makes for an excellent and unforgettable ride.

There's just one other game like Portal 2 and that's the first Portal. Just like its predecessor, this sequel manages to wring every last ounce of enjoyment out of seemingly simple core concepts. If you're strictly into action its slow, plodding, calculated pace will be a turnoff. Yet, somehow Valve has managed to make a puzzle game that will make your pulse rise with a never ending daisy chain of positive reinforcement. It's bigger, more polished, and feels like a full-fledged game instead of an experiment, and we highly recommend it to any player ready to leave their comfort zone and feel smart in the process.

Portal 2 is a creative and engaging little slice of gaming heaven that can truly appeal to all kinds of people. It is one of the best games I have played all year, and it will probably become one of your favourites soon enough if you give it a chance. If you are concerned about value for money then, by all means wait for a price drop. The moment that price hits a level you’re comfortable with though, make sure you purchase it. Portal 2 is a game that you will not regret playing in any sense of the word.

What they say about sequels not holding up the original is often enough true, however it doesn’t apply to Portal 2. Everything about Portal 2 is “bigger and better” than the original. You can clearly see that the developers made sure to keep the core of the gameplay from Portal intact, while enhancing every bit of the experience into a deeper, more fulfilling experience for Portal 2. With 2-player co-op and cross-platform gameplay thanks to Steam being brought over to the PS3 console, Valve is essentially “changing the game” and we all thank them for it. Whether you pick up the Xbox 360, PC or PS3 version of the game, you will have a rich and rewarding experience seldom few bring to the table.

Portal 2 is available on three platforms (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC), but all three versions feature the same content. The advantage with the PC version is that it includes, as a separate download, an editor that lets you create and share new levels with other Portal 2 owners, increasing its longevity. The PlayStation 3 version also includes a code to download the PC version of Portal 2 at no extra cost, so if you want the best of both worlds, the PS3 version is the way to go. No matter which version you choose, however, you'll want to take it slow and savor the game. You may not be advancing science, but playing Portal 2 is nonetheless an enriching experience.

The co-op campaign is a boatload of fun and adds extra value to the package — especially if you're a PS3 owner, who gets the PC/Mac version along with the console copy. Portal 2's only problem is that it's a hair short and lacks replay value. Despite this, it's some of the best gaming I've had in recent memory, and it still manages to be worth the full price. If you remotely enjoyed the original Portal, you'll absolutely love the sequel.

Portal 2 is one of those rare games that makes its predecessor completely obsolete. There are more puzzles, more characters, better graphics and sound, more variables in the puzzles, and a surprising story that went above and beyond my expectations. Unfortunately, once you’ve beaten both campaigns, there’s nothing left to do. Even with that shortcoming, however, Portal 2 is one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I’ve had for quite a while.

Portal 2 slips through its own series of tests to be a genuine follow-up to the now cult classic original. Akin to the original, puzzling in the first-person isn't going to be for everyone, so if testing the waters means you pick up the older, yet priceless 'The Orange Box' or dive right into Portal 2, it's worth a look. Even with its high praise, Portal 2 isn't perfect, but it's imaginative, it's sophisticated, and one of the best puzzlers we've played in years. Thinking has never been so much fun.

The real beauty of Portal 2 this time is what is said. There's a meta-game clearly at play here. Those who played Portal will notice an improvement in the quality of the puzzles in Portal 2. This is because your role in Portal was more than just Chell - you were the test subject. GLaDOS tells you this over and over - and Portal 2 demonstrates it to be true. Of course heatmaps and stat tracking can't tell you how to sufficiently nail humour, so Portal slips in those areas. It's more Portal, not a better Portal. Regardless, if you're looking for a challenging puzzle game and a great coop experience, Portal 2 is a must buy.

Valve have managed to buck most of the standard norms while still delivering one of the best games you will play this year. The game by itself would be awesome enough, but Cross Game Play/Chat with Steam just takes it to a whole other level bringing the world of consoles and PC together in a way that hasn’t been done until now. For all those who appreciate a real challenge, this is the game for you. To chess players who thrive on the games that demand that you be able to see several moves ahead, this is for you as well. Portal 2 isn’t the kind of game that everyone will like and that is ok. I respect the fact that Valve refused to dumb their game down for fear it wouldn’t be accepted by the masses. I still don’t know if the masses will take to it. All I can say is if you want a truly challenging game to take up some time, pick up Portal 2. Valve did a hell of a job in delivering a sequel that captures the spirit of the original while creating a bit of magic that is all its own.

Ultimately, the biggest problem with Portal 2 is Portal 1, which was a lean mean meme machine driven by one of videogaming's most unforgettable characters. So when the sequel has a minor negative space problem, and closes with a credit sequence that I can't hum for the life of me, is Portal 2 ever so slightly disappointing, or was Portal 1 just flat-out ingenious? I suspect a little of both. But with this much awesome Stephen Merchant, and with my status as a frickin' genius puzzle solver reaffirmed, and with a unique co-op experience, it's like complaining that I was promised the moon and the stars, but I only got the moon.

All things considered, Portal 2 is one superb offering. I’m glad I bought it, and I really enjoyed playing it. From the tone of this review, you might’ve gotten a sense that I’m not really hyperventilating over its awesomeness, but that’s only because we all knew it was going to be great. It’s still quite awesome, though, and definitely a game that everyone should play. If, for some reason, you haven’t played the original, drop everything and go get both games; you’re missing out on some of the best experiences that gaming has to offer. Portal veterans who are tight on cash at the moment might want to grab the second installment on sale, or wait for a permanent price drop. But make no mistake—skipping Portal 2 should not be an option for you.

Portal 2 is the best sequel we could have expected. The levels just plain aren't as challenging, but the new toys and characters manage to distract enough from the cracks in the paint to keep the whole ride breezing along. It astounds in some ways and disappoints in others, which, while not perfect, is good enough for science. Newcomers to "portal science" will find Portal 2 easy to pick up and perhaps more rewarding than long-time fans. Both, however, will find plenty to love and more than enough to justify the price of purchase.

Does Portal 2 outshine its predecessor? That’s a difficult question to answer. It is a longer, fuller experience to be certain, but having previously seen and experienced what made Portal so interesting and unique, Portal 2 doesn’t quite feel so new or exciting. Some frustrating decisions and an underwhelming second act aside, the central premise is as brilliant as ever and Valve has enough tricks up their sleeves to keep it challenging, interesting, and hilarious as always.

In spite of all this, I’m going to say what we’re all thinking: Portal 2 is the most fun you can have on your PC till someone invents a way that it can transform into a laser-firing sexbot with Bill Nye’s voice. The game is fun, the characters are still great, and overall Valve did try their best in bringing Portal to the AAA market. While it has some flaws, it’s still a testament to the level of artistic direction games need.

In the end, Portal 2 is a triumph. It’s a step forward for comedic writing in games. It presents a whole slew of new mechanics to play around with. It’s smooth and sleek, and a representation of how great Valve are at crafting games. They took a working formula and made it more than just a demo, with smarter humour and smarter puzzles. In a word, it’s genius. Though maybe not always in a good way.

For it’s puzzles and ingenuity in the main game I give it an A, for the needless rewrite of GlaD0S’ character and the implied fate of every other digital character by proxy, I give the game a B, but for the shameless profit shakedown that this game is covertly carrying out in every other respect… a D. That averages this could-be great title into a paltry C. I know that’s not going to win me any friends, but I call it like I see it.
