Prince of Persia: Warrior Within again goes the road less traveled in game design. It doesn't compromise what it is for the almighty dollar, but it also doesn't rehash its old themes to take the easy way out. Anyone who fell in love with the elegant Sands of Time (that being anyone who actually played it) should place Warrior Within at the top of their holiday must-play list. Once again, it exemplifies the very definition of a boundary-pushing video game.

Perfection. Every once in a while, usually a looong while, a game bursts on the scene that causes gamers and reviewers alike to proclaim, “Perfection.” For me, the original Prince of Persia (Sands of Time) was one of those games. Here was a game that perfectly melded incredibly fresh, visceral gameplay, with some of the most breathtaking visuals ever seen in gaming, combined with an engrossing, compelling story holding it all together like industrial strength super glue. That isn’t to say that some didn’t find fault with it. Some complained about the lack of boss battles, while others griped about its length, while more yet found the combat to be somewhat repetitive.

Everyone loves Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The overwhelming majority of those who played it remember its story, its look, and its platforming as some of the finest examples of recent video game design. Now it’s sequel time and we all wonder if this new entry measures up. As a whole, Warrior Within does an incredible job of differentiating itself while still maintaining the series’ high level of quality.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is the sequel to Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and it delivers a gameplay experience that qualifies it as one of the best video game sequels ever. Sands of Time captivated gaming audiences with the Prince’s acrobatic movements, complex puzzles, and stunning visuals. In Warrior Within, we are treated to more of the same and given some added features that truly spice up the gameplay. The game does an excellent job of making you use a healthy balance of intellect and swordsmanship; it is an adventure title that will require some timing, patience, and attention to detail, and those of you who appreciate such tactics and precision will get a lot out of this game.

Als mit „Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” frischer Wind ins Action-Adventure-Genre kam, bettelten alle Fans um einen Nachfolger.

To put it short, this game is a very worthy sequel and will undoubtetly conquer the hearts of alot of gamers. The puzzles and spectacular combat make this game one of the best games I've played in quite a while. Be advised however, although the game is playable with only your mouse and keyboard, I would strongly advice playing it with a joypad in order to enjoy the best gameplayexperience.

A great title for platform adventure fans and an interesting new direction. Platform games have evolved and at the moment this is the game leading them. I'd like to see some competition now to bring this almost dead genre back alive, Blinx hasn't provided maybe Rareware will. Watch your back Prince of Persia you're only the best because the race isn't big.

"When a man knows he is going to die, the impossible doesn't seem so hard." That's a fitting quote for our embattled prince. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within picks up where Sands of Time left off: the prince is now hunted by a dark beast called the Dahaka who is intent on making the prince face his fate and imminent death. To defeat this creature of darkness, he must travel to a mysterious island where the Sands of Time were created and stop the Empress of Time. Have you figured out that you'll be time traveling yet?

Last year's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was notable for many reasons. It brought back a fondly remembered franchise, further established Ubisoft Montreal as a celebrated development house, and featured a distinct and memorable visual style. But more than any of that, it made platforming gameplay work in 3D. Even in a room with no enemies, it was fun to jump between platforms, run along walls, and not have to fight with the controls to do these things -- you could simply enter the room and the fun would be in making it to the other side. This year's sequel Warrior Within changes some of that game's themes with varying degrees of success, but keeps the brilliant platforming and overall quality.

There are some companies that just know what it takes to make an incredible game. And not only do they know how to make a good game, but they know what it takes to make the sequel surpass it. Such is life when you work for UbiSoft. Let's think about this for a moment. Ghost Recon, Rayman, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell; we all see exactly what happens when you get those minds focused on a sequel, and how you go about improving on the original. Well, you have to add one more to this list. And this could be yet another award winner.

The sequel to last year's critically successful, yet overlooked smash isn't a massive step forward for the action-adventure genre. Largely an upgrade on the original, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is still one of the most polished and imaginative escapades we've played. Like a blockbuster movie, the tale delivers on almost every count from dazzling pyrotechnics to deft storytelling.

At the start of Warrior Within the Prince learns that his fate is to die as a result of unleashing the Sands of Time. He resolves to oppose the fate that has been written for him and travel back in time to stop the sands being created. The resulting story is set mostly in the large castle complex of the Empress who created the sands, and is played in both the past and the present with players switching between the two periodically.

Warrior Within is not quite as good as The Sands of Time. Elements like the combat and bosses are inarguably better, but lack of evolution in the Prince and the action-oriented slant are not as good as the basic platforming mechanics that were the star of the show in last year's game. These elements don't hurt Warrior Within too much, but it's still a better platform game than the action game it seems like it's trying to become.

When Ubisoft sees success in a franchise, it doesn't waste any time preparing a sequel--as proven by the many games that start with "Tom Clancy's&" on the market in recent years. Best of all, the sequels are usually as good, if not better than, their predecessors. That's certainly the case with this year's Prince of Persia, subtitled Warrior Within.

There are a lot of platformers on PS2 that PoP:WW has to compete with. You have Sly 2, Jak 3, and Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal to take into consideration. All these games happen to be excellent, but PoP:WW is the most contrived, leaving gamers thinking, "Prince, dude, just be yourself." Really, the new direction doesn’t affect how fun the game is, as the fighting system and levels are better than the last game, which was excellent in its own right. Also, no other platformer matches the flowing, acrobatic sequences of PoP:WW. Look past the bad-boy façade, and you’ll see that this new iteration is even better than the last.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is an excellent sequel to a game that caught many by surprise last year. Those who enjoy navigating through beautifully designed levels, complete with clever puzzles and traps, will definitely get their fill of them here. Moreover, the combat has improved greatly, although it's still not the principle strength of the game. However, those who primarily enjoyed last year's The Sands of Time for its original charm and subtle character development may not find quite what they're looking for in this sequel. But even with this caveat, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is easy to recommend for any action adventure fan, and its lengthier campaign should keep players busy for a lot longer this time around.

Warrior Within is a great game. Unfortunately, as the follow-up to one of the best adventure games since the advent of three dimensional gaming, only being ‘great’ is still somewhat of a disappointment. While some would have you believe that the new thematic direction is franchise-killing blasphemy and the root of the game’s downfall, the decision to take the franchise to a darker place was not a bad idea – UbiSoft simply took it a tad far and the game has lost connection with series’ roots, as anyone who looks at or plays the title without knowledge of its connection of the venerable series would probably require some convincing to accept that yes, this action game was an entry in the Prince of Persia franchise. While the game features better mechanics in many areas, it fails live up to the sum of its parts as a result of misguided tinkering made to the game balance, most notably a larger emphasis on combat.

With all these new moves available, you can imagine that there's a lot more combat in Warrior Within than in The Sands of Time. It's also quite a bit more difficult in spots. Enemies will come at you several more at a time, so you'll need to become proficient with your moves to survive. Eventually, though, you'll find that you can get through the game more efficiently when you quickly end battles by throwing opponents off of high ledges rather than laboriously finishing them off with your weapons. There are a few boss fights in the game, but, unfortunately, quite a bit of recycling has been employed, so these confrontations aren't as memorable as they could have been. What's more, most of the high-level weapon combos are all but useless against bosses, because these combos tend to get blocked. You'll end up relying mostly on dodging and the simplest of combos to steadily winnow health away from bosses.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within certainly has some downsides, but they do not mar significantly the beauty of this game. I have always stuck to the opinion games were supposed to be fun. Well, this one certainly is fun, and although it sometimes drags about a bit, it does not get boring, nor does the fighting get repetitive - mostly due to the great combat system. Of course, it is advisable to play Warrior Within with the game pad, as this makes the game more enjoyable: still, I'd like to stress that playing with the mouse and keyboard is rather comfortable, so I had no issues with that.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time ranks among the very best console action-adventure games of this generation. Despite the critical acclaim, Ubisoft decided to tinker with the formula in hopes of attracting a wider audience with Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. The result is a much darker Prince, who speaks in a gravelly voice, travels through a rather grim labyrinth of saw blades and spiked floors, and is solely concerned with saving his own butt, no matter who he has to take down in order to do so. In the process, Ubisoft Montreal re-invented the combat system, added a few new traps, lengthened the gameplay experience, and threw in a number of bosses. So, with all of these improvements, how is it that Warrior Within isn't as good as The Sands of Time?

Sands of Time was, among many things, a really pleasant game that, in spite of the odd frustration, managed to be everything a great game should be –entertaining, memorable and fun. Warrior Within is less of all these things. Oh it’s still a very good game, no doubt, but even when you discount the fact that Warrior Within retreads a lot of old ground, it still doesn’t compare favourably to its parent.

You will die. Keep this one sentence in mind, because you’ll hear it, and the sentiment it conveys quite a bit throughout the sequel to one of the best games from last year. When the Prince of Persia made its return to gaming after more than a decade’s absence, its presentation was a magnificent mix of old school platforming that paid tribute to its roots with new jack technology, manipulating time and space thanks to the Sands of Time. What’s more, the story was an exciting journey of growth and redemption, as the prince attempted to restore balance to the world by returning the mystical particles to the hourglass of time. What a difference a year makes Ubisoft’s sequel takes a completely different turn in our hero’s saga with Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.

If you could put up with a somewhat unfinished product on Ubisoft’s part, you will find an entertaining game, filled with fun puzzles, and intense battles. You may encounter the bug that I was unfortunate enough to encounter, or you may have an entertaining bug-free experience almost as good as last year’s Sands of Time. It’s kind of a gamble, so if that isn’t good enough for you, don’t pick this one up. If you loved Sands of Time, you’ll probably like this sequel. It’s a shame it couldn’t keep the “wow” factor of its predecessor.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within’s new tone isn’t really the direction we were hoping they’d take the series, but the action is intense and the new combat system is pretty cool. Still, a downgrade in the look and sound combined with increasingly annoying platforming and camera issues get in the way of this warrior’s ultimate victory.

Warrior Within buoys itself up defiantly; it addresses POP's unsatisfying combat by giving you even more of the same, throwing away an intricately developed character and replacing him with an ad hoc stereotype, yet despite these layers of targeted appeal, it cannot disguise or comfortably move away from the true strengths of the series.

When it's all said and done, PoP: Warrior Within is the latest sequel to fail to improve upon, or even live up to the standards of the previous game. Many of the additions feel like things that they didn't have time to add to the last game, and the whole experience feels uninspired. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but Warrior Within is one big letdown.

Imagine you made a game that was beautiful, fluid, well-designed, charming -- even witty at times. It has a few problems, notably combat, but most games do. Imagine further that this game of yours, upon release, doesn't sell quite as fast as expected. It does well enough in the end, but ... you think it could do better. You just need that killer angle, the hook that'll snare those fickle 18-24 year-old males. After some thought, you come up with a plan. Your sequel will be darker, which mostly means the colors will be expunged. It will have embarrassingly juvenile T&A. And it will jettison nearly every vestige of the last game's charm. Is this a winning plan? Back in the real world we'll soon find out, because I've just described Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.
