I found Prince of Persia to be a masterpiece. The flowing platforming, stunningly crafted world, beautiful story, interactions with Elika and mesmerising presentation combine to provide what is not only one of the most unique and memorable experiences of the year, but also one of the very best. However, I should point out that gamers who prefer their games to be high on challenge and to provide a concrete sense of accomplishment will in all likelihood not enjoy Prince of Persia all that much. Players who enjoy more experience-based games such ICO, Shadow of the Colossus or Assassin’s Creed, however, will find Prince of Persia to be a treasure fit for a prince.

Prince of Persia is a wonderful and nearly magical game. It's not very long but it's long enough, as it will entail around 10-14 hours of continuous platforming and fighting, even if you don't try to pick up the 1001 Seeds of Light. The flow and excitement of the gameplay as well as the dramatic visual style will get you hooked for hours to come. I doubt there will be many people who don't like it, as it's equally engaging for players and viewers sitting next to you. The only trouble may come when they want you to pass the controller! Do yourself a favor and give this game a try. The only way you wouldn't like it is if you don't like platforming, and if you're reading this, that's not the case, right?

Sands of Time is held in such high regard by many gamers, myself included, and simply matching that experience is an enormous task in and of itself. The fact that Prince of Persia stands toe-to-toe with that giant is not only an incredible feat, but makes it one of the "must-play" games of 2008 and this generation.

Ultimately, the only thing holding Prince of Persia back from absolute greatness is its very traditional core. Unlike this season’s heaviest hitters, it doesn’t seek to redefine anyone's notion of gaming, it simply wants to be fun - and there's something reassuringly familiar about the overall experience. However, that doesn’t detract from the simple fact that Ubisoft has delivered an incredibly polished, tremendously enjoyable and utterly lovable experience here. It takes all the best elements of previous franchise entries then expands and refines them to create an absolutely unforgettable adventure. It’s magical in every sense of the word and, after all those years in the wilderness, it’s good to have the old Prince back.

It’s not the best game ever released on PC, PS3 or Xbox 360; it’s not even the best game released this year. And yet Prince of Persia is that rare game that has managed to tap into that part of me that would die defending Chrono Trigger or JSRF. It has its shortcomings, but I already sense that Prince of Persia will be one of the few games from this generation that I carry with me for the next decade.

At most, the game will last 15 hours if you go after every single light seed; if you’re not a completionist, a little over 10. There isn’t much to actually go back to once you finish. The Jade and Altair skins are really cool, and the concept art is kind of interesting, but the only real reason to play through Prince of Persia again is to just experience it all again. It’s full of heart and moments that pumped unbridled joy into every crevice of my being. The ending goes down as one of my personal all-time favorites, and it leaves the re-envisioned franchise wide open for a sequel. Crazy thing is, Ubisoft didn’t need to even reboot the franchise. They didn’t need to undo everything they established. They did anyway and the result is wonderful. Even better? Zero DRM. That takes balls in this day and age. Prince of Persia is a must-play for anyone who can let go of the lax difficulty and can just experience what Ubisoft has to offer.

Prince of Persia has pulled away from its previous trappings to become its own true game. Borrowing the core elements from the past, Ubisoft Montreal has crafted this new Prince into an experience like no other. The combination of the beauty in the graphics, merged with the more delicate and interesting storyline, proves you can have it all in your action games. The new art direction and slowed down combat sequences might astray some hardcore fans initially, however once you put the controller in your hands, I’ll guarantee you won’t want to put it down. Prince of Persia is a triumph of a game, and a promising new direction from one gaming most premier series.

Overall, Prince of Persia is a game that tends to the casual audience while keeping the masochistic at bay. There are some hiccups that could have been fixed, but with a beautifully unique art direction that is unparallel to anything previously done, dynamic and perpetually new environments with seamless acrobatic platforming, much can easily be forgiven.

Prince of Persia‘s an espresso to follow up the hardcore AAA titles of this season. It’s simple and colorful, light-hearted and even occasionally poignant. And, like Ubi Montreal’s other recent release, Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip, makes for a game the whole family can enjoy. Imagine that, a Team Ico-esque title even your non-gamer mother can pick up and play.

PlayStation 3Game Shark
In the end, does the focus on accessibility cause it to suffer from being a shade too easy? Perhaps. I finished the game in about nine hours; I went in expecting another sweaty-palm experience like Sands of Time (a game I still consider one of the best of the previous generation) but I got something very different. If you are looking for a challenging platformer that will test your gamepad skill to its fullest – Prince of Persia isn’t that game. Still, despite its lack of overt difficulty, this game remains special, and while it didn’t take terribly long to finish, and replay value isn’t too high unless you get obsessed with seed collecting, it was definitely nine to ten hours well spent and is an adventure you should not miss.

Prince of Persia is a really pure gaming experience that will undoubtedly split gamers on the issue. Some will hate the controls, others will love them. Some will be bored with the game’s repetition, others will be enthralled by it. Some will love the voice acting, others will be on the right side of that issue. No matter. Prince of Persia is a gorgeous piece of work that may just pull more people into gaming by being as fun and easy as it is beautiful.

Quite possibly the last "must own" of 2008 and easily one of the best action-adventure games of the year. With a fantastic soundtrack and a unique and superb look, Prince of Persia is a platformer that you shouldn't miss. Granted, it's not the hardcore platformer that fans of the series yearned for, but if you're looking for a rich story in an even richer setting, then Prince of Persia is for you ... If anyone wants us, we'll be waiting in a cupboard for the DLC which is due next year.

The latest Prince of Persia rewrites the rules for the franchise and openly challenges some of gaming's most fundamental dogmatic thinking. Scored according to my own personal enjoyment of the experience, the game earns its way into the Superb category with ease. However, so much of my enjoyment was based on admittedly subjective design choices that I can't give it an unconditional endorsement. As such, this is probably the highest score I will ever give alongside a strong recommendation to rent first.

Ever since Ubisoft revealed its reboot of the Prince of Persia franchise there have been whispers of "game of the year", and it's to Ubisoft's credit that it has delivered a game that absolutely delivers on its promise, trumping Assassin's Creed in every way. Game of the year is perhaps a stretch too far, but Ubisoft Montreal has come tantalisingly close to creating a real masterpiece. There's no doubt that a sequel is coming; we only hope that the Prince and Elika have some time to work on their relationship in the time being.

And when you couple these solid fundamentals with the ways in which Ubisoft have gone above and beyond to push the series forward, then you have a title that is AAA is almost every way possible. Too bad this adventure seems to end as soon as it starts, and doesn't have much replayability outside of unlocking bonus costumes and collecting glowing orbs that upgrade Elika's magic powers. These are minor quibbles at best, though -- we still found ourselves savoring every moment.

It'd be a shame to call Prince of Persia simply another series reboot. Truly great games of any genre assimilate proven ideas from other titles and introduce new ones. In this case, the new title combines strong platforming fundamentals, Assassin's Creed's open-world structure, and some of Okami's wonderful aesthetic flourishes. What it introduces to action games is something truly wonderful. Since the Prince can't die, the pace and rhythm of gameplay is never lost, yet it still offers a challenge even for hardcore gamers. Elika is something of a semi-NPC, as you never fully control her, yet she's a hugely integral part of the game experience, from rescues to combat. With all of these ingredients -- both new and familiar -- mixed together, Prince of Persia is undoubtedly one of the year's finest games.

There’s quite a bit to enjoy when it comes to the latest Prince of Persia. Intuitive and easy to master gameplay, coupled with production values that put many contemporaries to shame, makes Prince of Persia a standout title. It’s been a slow year for adventure titles, but Prince of Persia is able to claim the top spot of the list at the last possible moment. While it may not be the game of the year, it arrives just in time to at least contend for it. Who would’ve thought a fresh start on a new console was what this series needed?

It doesn’t matter either way, Prince of Persia is still a highly accessible, solid title that is likely to keep players (especially the casual gamer) entertained for some time. Sure, the infinite lives scenario may annoy some of the more dedicated gamers out there, but I imagine the challenge of collecting every Light Seed (there are just over 1000) should keep them busy for some time. Overall PoP has an excellent mix that not only markets itself well to all ages, but should keep you coming back for more.

It’s a sequel that shows that game makers are not only listening to our complaints but really care what we think. And not just because of the bottom line – though that surely had something to do with it – more than likely, these developers are entertainment fans themselves. No matter how much I wanted to get back to the gameplay, I couldn’t bring myself to skip a scene.

Prince of Persia is the kind of game that will get lost in the sea of titles currently flooding the shelf. It isn't full of guns, aliens or even tons of gore and it certainly doesn't have the marketing muscle of some of the other games currently occupying store shelves, but it does have one thing most of them lack: character. The relationship between Elika and the Prince is easily the best duo found in a game yet and the developers have done an outstanding job of forcing you to care for Elika more than even yourself. The visuals are eye-pleasing, the sound is immaculate and the platforming and combat are so elegant they resemble an art form. If you have a chance to try out one new game this December make sure it is Ubisoft's re-launch of the Prince of Persia series. Even if you have never experienced the series, there has never been a better time to get started.

Overall Prince of Persia is a delightful experience from beginning to end. The mechanics might not be groundbreaking or award-winning, but the characters’ narratives are intriguing enough to forgive each mistake made. If you’re an advocate of “video games are art” or “female characters should be more than TnA” you’ll definitely want to see what this game has going on. However, if you’re not a fan of video game storylines or don’t really care about video games as a medium, Prince of Persia is still a great game. There’s plenty of fun to be had with the platforming. The combat can be deemed acceptable for the most part. If you’re looking for more of what the series does best, you’ll find it right here. If you’ve never played a Prince of Persia game before, this is a great place to start.

Interestingly enough, the game really scratches that itch for those players out there looking for some big time adventure. I have always thought that the Prince series was a sort of Indiana Jones style adventure only made into a video game. The mystical cities, the magic, the locations filled with danger, yeah, I know that sounds cheesy, but I always thought of it in that way. My current version of the game was downloaded from Steam and I have never been happier with a game from those folks than this time. I've got plenty in my library, but this one is top dog now.

While the virtues of the control mechanics and gameplay are up for debate, the value of the presentation and production are not. A stirring orchestral score is the perfect accompaniment to the breathtaking environmental backdrops. Stop nearly anywhere in the game, and it looks like you’re staring at a still painting. Menus and navigation are equally friendly, and new abilities and skills are well explained and easy to grasp. With its valuation of story and cinematic presentation over player control, Prince of Persia’s not a title for everyone. However, it can claim one thing for sure: It’s unlike any other game you’ll play this year.

The lack of HUD keeps you immersed in the game world, free to enjoy the subtle transitions in colour and design from one region to the next, or to take in the excellent compositions at play during moments of tranquillity. Everything about Price of Persia shares this same calibre of excellence – there's no one element that really falls below our standards of quality. However, as much as we enjoyed our time as Prince and even gave into the somewhat forced love story, we came away wishing for a little more to do. Still it's by far better to do a few things really well than to try your hand at everything and succeed at nothing. Prince of Persia is arguably the best classic adventure game of 2008 – with a little room to improve.

Was bietet das wegen seines Grafikstils anfangs kritisch beäugte, neue "Prince of Persia"?

Prince of Persia is a well-made product with production values to die for. But as an interactive experience, some conscious design and gameplay decisions will lesson the enjoyment for experienced players. The platforming is fluid yet only vaguely interactive, and the combat is robust but easy. There’s little weight given to mistakes, but if you’re in the mood to put your competitive side on hold and go along for a great ride, this is it. If you’re looking for a game that makes you feel good about your skill level, it makes for one princely purchase.

Prince of Persia is a really fun game to play, sure the main premise may be quite repetitive due to the go there, heal the land, come back and go there nature of the game, however the fact that adventuring is the most enjoyable part of the game will probably mean that you will forgive the repetitiveness. Prince of Persia tries to be different and it succeeds, it looks stunning and plays the same way, it may not be the biggest game this Christmas but anyone who does buy it won’t regret the purchase.

This game makes a bold introduction to a new kind of Prince of Persia game, where it’s about the things you do, not necessarily the path you take. It’s a really fun game to play, with good characters, controls, locations, and objectives, and is truly an evolution of the series. The Prince of Persia series has been going on for some time now, ever since the first little white-clad prince jumped over (or got impaled by) his first set of spikes. And judging by this entry into the series, it’s likely to go on for a very long time indeed, and I for one have no qualms with that.

The Prince of Persia series has been going on for some time now, ever since the first little white-clad prince jumped over (or got impaled by) his first set of spikes. And judging by this entry into the series, it’s likely to go on for a very long time indeed, and I for one have no qualms with that.

This remake of Prince of Persia has become a good, though too simple, game which fans of the previous titles will no doubt love. By toning down the fights to the bare minimum I can summarize the gameplay to "seach & collect". As such not bad but it does tend to bore after a while. The graphical beauty is pleasing to the eye and makes this game a great adventure

Though not perfect in its execution, Prince of Persia certainly is worthy of the namesake for which it assumes. Nolan North and the rest of the actors lend well to their respective characters, giving them believable personae—it's just a shame the exposition doesn't draw you in more. On the other hand, beautiful art and a carefully constructed contrast between dark and light elements more than make up for most of the game's shortcomings. Though the switch to more intimate battles falls a bit flat, a few small tweaks could make for excellent combat in future titles. And more Prince of Persia is what we want to see down the road. The ability to mask linear, scripted gameplay with addicting platforming is evidence of the game's brilliance...and damned if it isn't one of the most beautiful games to-date.

As quick on its feet as you'd expect and glorious to behold, but not quite the earth-shaking return to form we were hoping for after the disappointments of Warrior Within and Two Thrones. Patently a must-buy, but let's not pretend we're pushing any envelopes.

Prince of Persia is fun. It isn't really challenging, and it isn't really lengthy, but when you play it, you're going to have fun. There are complaints, especially about the lackluster combat, but they're complaints that you could put forth about all of the previous Prince of Persia titles. If you enjoyed the previous games or are simply looking for a fast and fun platforming-action title, Prince of Persia is a great choice. It is more user-friendly than titles like Mirror's Edge, although the low difficulty may make it a bit unsatisfying for more experienced gamers. It's a new Prince of Persia game, and while it doesn't change the formula too much, it's still more of the same fun gameplay as the previous titles.

Prince of Persia may not be as earth shattering as the first experience on the PS2, but it's a damn fine game in its own right. Prince of Persia delivers well-crafted gameplay that borrows elements from its predecessors (and plenty of other titles) but makes great strides in developing a new identity for a series -- and a character that isn't as completely annoying as you might think from the first few lines of dialogue -- that seemingly lost its focus over the past few years. Of course, some issues here and there disrupt its goal in surpassing The Sands of Time, but it's an incredibly enjoyable journey nonetheless.

While it doesn't have quite the impact of a Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia deserves a lot of credit - it takes a lot of risks and really tries to bring something new to the series and genre. At the same time, it loses sight of some general gameplay sensibilities, which weaken the game's overall impact.

The Prince of Persia is likely one of the last new releases you’ll need to try out, partly because it provides one of the best single-player adventures of the fall. Though the addition of Elika as a safety net for when you’d normally be killed and have to start a fight or platforming sequence over, her role is more of being a portable checkpoint that saves you from a good portion of the frustration you’d have normally, but you will still have some difficulty to keep this from being a easy game. The QA issues from Assassin’s Creed have been ironed out for the most part, though there are a few lingering quirks between Elika and cranks and some other small stuff. Unless you’re a hardcore fan of the Prince of Persia games, you can beat the game in about 14 hours or so in a rental to get all you need out of it during the holiday season.

The steep graphical requirements sour an otherwise generally fun experience. Yes, the combat is wonky, the environments repetitive, the difficulty curve flat, and the dialogue taken from a crappy romantic comedy, but the majority of your time you’re just jumping around a playground. The game brings out the big kid in you, and it’s a damn shame that more people won’t be able to enjoy it. Considering how divided the previous game left my loyalties, this is one series reboot I’m also actually happy to see.

It is often said that the purpose of fiction is to create an irresistible dream that will draw the reader into the world of the story and leave him/her never wanting to leave. While Prince of Persia is definitely flawed and can even become tedious at points, it creates a dreamlike world that keeps you interested. It is an interactive extension of what good fiction tries to be, and while it's not for everyone, it can often leave you with a desire to come back for more.

Prince of Persia gets past that and delivers a whole lot of game even if it is a little short for those who want to rush through the game and not experience and take in the visual splendor that the developers took the time to painstakingly create. If you are new to the series or missed a game or two on the last generation, fear not because this is pretty much a reinvention of the franchise and the perfect jump-off for newbies and those very familiar with previous installments.

In the end, Ubisoft have pieced together an engrossing, intricately designed fantasy experience with Prince of Persia, one with a smooth and decadent sensibility that reflects on both its visual sumptuousness and meticulous framework. It's a casual experience, one more focused on keeping a larger audience swimming inside of its whimsically-hinged universe, but it's unquestionably one of the year's more memorable efforts that offers both a solid narrative and a thoroughly-involving wallclimber experience. Fans of the series will also feel comfortably at home with this Prince's plank jumps and wall runs, even though newcomers will be able to pick up the action without having to worry with much controller complexity or story backwash. Make no mistake about it: this is still Prince of Persia, and it debuts in grand fashion for a newer generation.

Prince Of Persia is a wonderful game - of this we have no doubt - and taking the prince into new territory is a brave move for which we commend Ubisoft. Our dissatisfaction comes in the finding that the Prince's adventurous new gameplay elements simply don't play to his strengths, resulting in an experience that often wavers between intense highs and irritating lows. Whether this is the fault of the developer, or whether the law of diminishing returns means the prince has reached his new peak, is a question we'll only be able to answer with hindsight. For now we'll settle for great gameplay with the odd disappointing lull.

On the whole though Prince of Persia remains an enticing and intoxicating experience with a dreamy and trance-inducing rhythm to the actual platforming that makes the game feel involving and exciting even when there’s little actual involvement required. The fact that the player is prevented from making mistakes to such a degree is the major fault of the game, but it isn’t destructive enough to ruin the game and Prince of Persia manages to shine out as one of the best 3D platformers of the year despite it.

Most will be able to finish Prince of Persia in around a dozen hours, though if you want to collect every scattered light seed and avoid quick travel (you can teleport from one healed ground to another instantly), you could add a few more hours to the total. But while a few unlockable skins may not seem like enough reason to return, this game is so enjoyable and delightful that you may want to return to it as you would return to a favorite fantasy novel or film. While its lack of challenge may lull fans, its ease of use will delight newcomers and draw in anyone who appreciates a touch of magic.

Plus, once you understand enemy attack patterns and the game’s slightly slower than you’d expect timing, the level of challenge decreases dramatically. This, combined with the fact that Elika literally won’t let you die, could make things feel too easy and auto-piloted for some die-hard hardcore players. But we didn’t mind, and would still recommend Prince of Persia to everyone – it’s too good, too beautiful, and too charismatic to pass up.

f Ubisoft really had to go and release a fourth Prince of Persia game in five years, I'm glad it turned out as good--and more importantly, as distinctive--as this one did. It offers the specific gameplay features that fans of the series will be looking for, while establishing a sequel-ripe new world and story arc that are every bit as engaging as those of the previous trilogy. The slightly uneven pacing and relative ease of the gameplay are minor nitpicks in the grand scheme of this engrossing, beautiful adventure.

That the game sports an ending screaming for a sequel shows Ubisoft's commitment to this franchise, and to be fair, Prince of Persia's stunning delivery yields quite a few breathtaking moments. … (Stuart Chatwood). Prince of Persia can be an exhilarating game. As you dangle over yawning chasms, cling to precarious ruins, and run across cliff faces, you’ll experience breathtaking cinematic thrills. These moments are great to behold, especially with the game’s amazing art direction, but the excitement abates when you try to play. The Prince may be more acrobatic than ever, but your control over his maneuvers is simplistic and minimal. The act of scaling a tower can just be a series of single button presses, so it feels more like a minigame routine than a daring feat. When traversing more traditional platforming surfaces, no skill is involved since you snap right to your targets. Further eliminating the need for precision, it’s impossible to die in Prince of Persia. While this alleviates the frustration of errant jumps, it also removes any challenge – especially in the rare instances of combat, where perseverance

Despite cynically poking Prince of Persia in the ribs for a significant chunk of this review, there's little doubting that Ubisoft's latest offering is one of the year's most staggeringly beautiful releases. There's also no argument regarding its creative level design, ambitious scope, and its fabulous acrobatics. But sadly that's not enough. Ultimately, the scant combat, lack of challenge, constant backtracking, wholly predictable story, and an unappealing main character leave Prince of Persia as an incomplete package that's polished to an absolute gleam but fails to convince as a worthy reboot.

It plays like a visually impressive movie, but with a convoluted script, mundane dialogue, which happens to be horribly voiced, and just-plain-repetitive gameplay. The simple controls and your character's inability to die give the impression that this is a "casual" game. While it would've been nice if more experienced gamers had the option to crank up the difficulty, the problem with Persia isn't that it's too easy - it's that it's too simple. It's decently long (about 10-12 hours) but you're going through the same routine for most of that time. The game is smooth, visually appealing, and well-written but I wish the last few hours were more different from the first few. Ubisoft's objective for the inevitable (and deserved) sequel is to find a way to keep the game accessible but still have the gameplay grow more complicated over time. At the very least, a Hard mode would be appeciated.

If it sounds like we’re ragging on this new Prince incarnation, it’s more out of personal disappointment than this actually being a bad game. As a game in its own right it’s entertaining, well-constructed and does retain flashes of the old Prince brilliance. It’s very short, though that still means it makes an excellent choice for a weekend rental. If you want a truly great 3D Prince of Persia experience, however, we’d recommend tracking down a copy of The Sands of Time instead.

And it’s because of how well presented Prince of Persia is, that makes it such a huge let-down. The POP series has always been impressive, especially back in its 1989 debut. I don’t remember much about that game, as I was only around six year old when I played it, but I did have a small inkling in my head at the time that told me I was looking at something special. This was mostly due to way it was fluidly animated, which was highly impressive for the time. Years from now, this version of Prince of Persia, just like the original, will probably be applauded for the way it looked and moved, as its visuals, at times, border on spectacular. Crucially though, the limited gameplay offerings seen in this reboot for the series will most likely be forgotten as soon as we begin to march through 2009.

The POP series has always been impressive, especially back in its 1989 debut. I don’t remember much about that game, as I was only around six year old when I played it, but I did have a small inkling in my head at the time that told me I was looking at something special.

Prince of Persia is a disappointment because the game has a lot going for it but all in disparate element that don’t feel fully fleshed out and don’t blend together despite the amazing visual splendor that wraps it all up. I was initially intrigued by its visual innovation and I believe many will want to check the game for that reason alone and I cannot dissuade anyone from doing so. Just be forewarned that the promise at the beginning will, at best, be fulfilled in the sequel.

As with Assassin’s Creed before it, Prince of Persia suffers from being one of the best looking but worst playing titles on the 360. Worthy only as a piece of visual showboating, or as a bargain basement filler game, it’s a wasted opportunity and could end up being a costly mistake at a time when the industry needs to start listening to what gamers want, and stop going off on expensive flights of fancy that don’t quite cut the mustard.

With all these things in combination, the result is a game where you pick an area to save from the corruption, go there, run to the top, do a fight, gather some orbs and then repeat. The platforming fluency is seductive, but it's a language of indifferent thumbing yawned through timing windows as wide as a house. The crushing thing about Prince of Persia, however, isn't this. It's that we're faced with yet another poor game planted in a bed of fantastic technology and interesting mechanics, which, rather than empowering the player to solve interesting problems in new and exciting ways, merely sends you for a long and elaborate stroll through a beautiful world devoid of challenge or variation, and marred by excessive repetition.

This is a lazy game, a lazy game made by lazy developers who knew it would sell like mad because of the title, and so turned in a lazy excuse for a franchise update. It is too lazy to be bad, and far too lazy to be good. It settled instead for that laziest of all states: merely sub-mediocre. And that kind of breaks my heart, because there’s still a spark of the old Prince of Persia magic here. You catch it in glimmers, in the banter of the leads and the awe-inspiring views from high towers; the breathless jumps over yawning chasms and the grasping dangles from teetery poles. But those glimmers last only seconds and are gone, afterimages behind the eyelids. They are not enough.
