The latest adventure game from Infogrames, "Prisoner of Ice" takes you into a bizzare investigation of the supernatural, mixed with espionage and Cthulhu magic. The sequel of "Shadow of the Comet" is a new episode in the "Call of Cthulhu" collection which was inspired by the novel "At the Mountains of Madness" by H.P. Lovecraft.

This game is an excellent example of all the things that are good about the adventure genre when a game has been built correctly. There's an engrossing story, puzzles that are rational and keep the player immersed in the story, not setting it aside to solve them, and music and graphics that do the job of tying it together in a cohesive package. This is a classic—pick it up play it if you'd like a game that gives you a good, old-fashioned, third-person, story-driven injection.

Sämtliche Kritikpunkte von 'Shadow of the Comet' wurden konsequent behoben.

Day of the Tentacle heller.

Prisoner of Ice is another good game from Infogrames and another must have for Lovercraft fans. The sequel of the top Lovercraft game Shadow of the Comet might not be as atmospheric as its predecessor, but it is still worth a shot.

On the whole, I found Prisoner of Ice to be an enjoyable experience. It is easy to find faults with the plot, but if you accept those and just let the flow of the fast-paced, tension-heavy story carry you, you should have a good time. But enjoy it while it lasts: the game is not only easy, it is also rather short, and will be over before you can figure out how to pronounce "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn." An afternoon was what it took me to reach the ending on my first playthrough. But do not worry: a stalemate is the best you can hope for – this is after all a Lovecraftian story. Which means there is always room for more. More dark rituals! More power-hungry madmen! More weird stuff in capital letters! More IAEEEs! In short, more fun! Yes, isn't it a good thing that Cthulhu is not dead, but can eternal lie?

Prisoner is a flashback to the days when hint books were the new rage. There is essentially no skill involved other than patience. Really it is mearly a case of saving, guessing, and repeating that until you get it right (with a little necessary observation and creativety on the side.) This is definitely a once or twice through game which will be lost and forgotten as soon as completed. A few years back, when gamers were less demanding that there games have lots of depth, this title would have ranked higher. However, in today's demanding market, this title lacks the luster that would put it on top.

Prisoner of Ice is an engrossing game that pulls you in with its mysterious plot. If only the gameplay ran a little smoother, this game could have been really good. Unfortunately, many small, annoying problems with the game doom it to mediocrity.

The game combines a really good story with decent gameplay, good graphics and decent sound. Patience and perseverance is the key to defeating Cthulhu.

It is not outstanding by any means, but it is an entertaining title. For fans of Lovecraft who want every game that is based on his works, Prisoner of Ice is an unavoidable pick.

Whilst experienced adventurers may find Prisoner of Ice to be a little easy, newer players may well find it to be just the sort of game they are seeking. Despite my criticism, it does have its good points, especially if you are looking for an interesting game that will provide a light diversion from full on mind-numbing puzzles. There are no drawn out conversations and no real stumbling blocks where you have no idea what to do next. The puzzles flow smoothly and come in quick succession and you can move through the game at a fair pace. Lets face it, not every game needs to have you banging your head against a wall to be enjoyable.

Prisoner of Ice is a game with a lot of heart and spunk, a great premise and excellent hand-drawn graphics; but it is hindered by a ridiculously wandering plot, pointless puzzles, poor character development and just plain bad writing. Interactivity is far from intuitive, and the game mocks the user's attempt to do something experimental. "That's stupid!" and "It's pointless!" are messages that frequently appear when the player tries to solve puzzles that make no sense to begin with, have little basis in reality and no regard for human creativity.
