Project Eden

So do Eden's highlights overcome its faults and annoyances? Oh, my yes. The experience of playing is genuinely enjoyable. It's one of those games that will consume your weekends and cause you to pause at work and daydream of the problems you've been having in the construction zone leading up to the Death Head's base. Don't expect intense, nonstop action. But if you're coming in looking for a storyline rich in atmosphere and style, something bathed in immersion, something fresh, you will not be disappointed. God, I wish I would have sold my stock in the Real Meat company.

In conclusion Project Eden is not perfect; it is however an ambitious game deserving of praise for it’s beautiful attention to detail and genuinely interesting plot. It is not however always as engrossing as the atmosphere suggests, the puzzles being very occasionally repetitive, the combat sometimes unimportant. Stunning but slightly flawed.

As a whole, Core has once again stepped off the beaten path to give a gameplay experience that few other games can touch. It's not the genre creating experience that Tomb Raider was when it first appeared, but it succeeds almost despite itself. After it's all done, most will find that Project Eden was a fun game, and most will also have ideas about how it could be improved. And, we all know that Core it rather well known for sequels.

Toch maken vooral die breinbrekers Project Eden de moeite waard. Je zou kunnen stellen dat je een aantal puzzels krijgt om te oefenen en een aantal om je hersen op stuk te slaan. Die balans houdt de vaart erin. Totdat er weer een nieuwe klassieker voor je harde schijf komt, voldoet Project Eden prima als tijdelijk plezier.

Project Eden überrascht mit einer wirklich schönen Grafik und einer sehr professionellen Inszenierung im Hollywood-Stil. Sehr angenehm fallen auch die Nachladezeiten auf. So schnell hat in letzter Zeit selten ein Spiel die Levels in den Speicher geschaufelt! Leider ist die Schrift im Menü sehr schlecht lesbar und die Missionsziele sind nicht so gut erklärt. So kann es schon mal passieren, dass man an einem Puzzle etwas länger zu grübeln hat oder Ziellos in der Gegend rumläuft. Trotzdem ist Eden ein sehr schönes Spiel mit vielen neuen Ideen und einer richtig guten Grafik!

While Project Eden boasts above-average PS2 graphics and great ambient sounds, its true strength lies in the level design and well-thought-out presentation. Each massive level contains tons of obstacles to overcome using the unique strengths of your team. Only slightly unintuitive control gets in the way of really enjoying the game, and you?ll even get used to that.

Although on the surface Project Eden appears to be little more than a slightly modified shoot-em-up, it is actually a challenging action/adventure game. The game is filled with unique puzzles, flexible multiplayer game play, and even some role-playing aspects. Project Eden is available for PC and Playstation 2; this review is based on the PC version.

The logical environment-based puzzles in Project Eden represent what may be the best hope for the continuing evolution of adventure games.

Project Eden ist mit seinen kniffligen Rätseln genau das Richtige, um die grauen Gehirnzellen mal wieder auf Trab zu bringen. Soll Amber vorangehen, müssen Minoko oder Andre mit ihren Spezialfähigkeiten folgen? Und dann das Erfolgserlebnis: Alles klappt, die Handlung geht weiter. Mal abgesehen vom arg düsteren Szenario stört mich vor allem, dass sich die Rätsel-Machart nach einiger Zeit doch sehr wiederholt. Klar, ich muss immer wieder neu überlegen und planen, aber Überraschungen gibt’s irgendwann kaum noch. Außerdem machen die Kämpfe wenig Spaß. Wer Freude am Knobeln hat, bekommt hier aber ein langfristig motivierendes Abenteuer.

Als de ontwikkelaars ook het combatgedeelte degelijk hadden uitgewerkt, zou Project Eden uitzonderlijk geweest zijn in plaats van 'alleen maar' goed.

As I made my way through the levels, my impressions of Project Eden only got better. After a while, I got hooked on the neat puzzle-solving, just as if I was playing one of my favorite classic adventures, and that alone can be a rewarding enough gaming experience. For that, I recommend this game to our readers. It's not a triple-A title, but Project Eden had some very smart game designers working on it.

Although Project Eden includes a first-person view, a variety of weapons, and a deathmatch multiplayer mode, don't expect to engage in the chaotic combat of a first-person shooter such as Red Faction. Instead, Core Design's Project Eden concentrates on level design and inventive puzzles to create the tension and action. The lengthy and addicting single-player game and the multiplayer component should keep aspiring urban protectors occupied for quite some time.

Core Design a eu la bonne idée d'intégrer un mode multi-joueurs à Project Eden. Et en plus du traditionnel deathmatch, vous pourrez faire ou refaire l'aventure principale à plusieurs, chacun s'occupant d'un personnage. Tout simplement génial ! Bref, Project Eden à le mérite d'innover parmi tous les titres qui sortent en ce moment. Et même si les énigmes ne se renouvellent peut-être pas assez (il est souvent question de leviers à actionner) et que les phases d'action sont un peu confuses, il serait dommage de passer à côté.

There are other issues bogging the game down like the incompetent artificial intelligence. of computer-controlled characters (your team will often get stuck behind obstacles—be prepared for some shepherding) and the lack of any significant characterization (three sentences between levels doesn't cut it). But in spite of this, the game has an undeniably amazing world to take part in, and I never once stopped marveling at it from start to finish.

Ein vierköpfiges Team wird in einer fernen Zukunft damit betraut, das Verschwinden einiger Wissenschaftler zu untersuchen. Tief unten, etliche tausend Meter unter den Penthäusern der Wohlhabenden, leben die Armen, die als Fabrikarbeiter schuften müssen. In diesen düsteren Slums sind soziale Konflikte an der Tagesordnung, kriminelle Vereinigungen verstecken sich vor den Behörden und erwartungsgemäß treiben sich hier etliche Verschwörer herum. Der Spieler, der die simultane Steuerung der vier Sicherheitskräfte übernimmt, sieht sich folgerichtig bald einem dubiosen Ring von Rebellen gegenüber, die auf dem Weg in die oberen Etagen der Stadt eine Spur aus Leichen hinterlassen.

Det största problemet med spelet är att man tröttnar efter ett tag, inte minst om man bara är en spelare. Det tar ofta rätt lång tid att klara av banorna, och allt springande hit och dit med de olika gubbarna går en i slutändan på nerverna. Men trots det är Project Eden ett bra spel, och ett tidsfördriv som inte alls är fel.

I’ve been hit with the one-two punch. Twice in a row now, I have been given games that had all the potential in the world to be really cool, but failed -- Batman Vengeance and this one. A neat idea having a city where the socio-economics are broken down so structurally. With nasty goings on occurring in the recesses of the city, I honestly wanted to love this game. But, it really didn’t live up to what I thought Eidos should have made. If you read our scoring breakdown, you will see that games in the 70s are usually genre specific. Well, this game is not only genre specific, but it’s also a disappointment. Some will play this game and want to start a cult based on it; others will wonder why I scored it so nicely.

Zugegeben, die Idee mit dem vierköpfigen Spezialisten-Team ist eine echte Alternative zum sonst immer gleichen Shooter-Prinzip. Grafisch und spielerisch kann der Titel jedoch nicht überzeugen. Fazit: Mit Project Eden ist es wie mit einem grauen Herbsttag: Es gibt tolle Sachen die man unternehmen kann. Aber bis man diese herausgefunden hat, ist einem die Lust vergangen.

Despite its pitfalls, Project Eden is a decent puzzle game and will genuinely tease your gray matter. While a nice change of pace from fragfests like Red Faction, though, it shouldn't be considered a complete package. Instead, Project Eden delivers a nice diversion for those who like to sit back and solve some quiet puzzles without having to deal with an engrossing story or hectic action. Its lack of good story, character interaction or fluid action holds it back from being the best project it could be.

Malheureusement pour Eidos et Core Design, l’image qui vient fatalement à l’esprit du joueur lorsqu’on évoque le nom de l'éditeur et du studio de dévelopement est celui de sa série à succès Tomb Raider. Certes, ce ne sont pas eux qui se plaindront du succès phénoménal de Lara Croft, mais certains pourraient se demander s’ils sont capables de sortir de ce moule et de proposer aux joueurs quelque chose de plus original. C’est en tout cas le pari relevé avec Project Eden.

The game’s pace is painfully slow, and like most puzzle games of this type, the payoff is far from satisfying. The menu system has some good points, but not enough to make a difference for me.
