For the true PS2 FPS fanatic, I don’t know why you don’t have this game already. If there is any respectable reason, it’s that you are anxiously awaiting the release of TimeSplitters: Future Perfec. And that’s really the biggest challenge that Project: Snowblind is facing – poor timing. Being the new guy on the block, Project: Snowblind might have a difficult time facing down the newest addition to cult classic TimeSplitters series, and I don’t see any direct or indirect ties to Deus Ex really helping it out much.

Snowblind epitomizes sound development. It's as well-rounded a title as we're likely to see on this current generation of platforms. While it lacks a certain degree of charm, it more than makes up for its slight hint of the mundane with a diverse and extraordinarily well-paced sort of action.

Project Snowblind is definitely recommendable to action gamers looking for something more engrossing than your typical shooter. The atmosphere, action, and variety of special abilities make Project Snowblind an enjoyable experience.

I liked this game and am singing its praises to all that will listen. I liken it to a big budget Hollywood movie, sure there isn't anything super surprising or ground breaking, but it sure is entertaining. If you like FPSs or action titles, then I believe you have your action fix ready to rock and roll.

There’s no doubt that Crystal D should be praised for their first venture into the FPS genre as Project: Snowblind is a rock-solid debut. The single-player campaign is as intense as we’ve ever played on the Xbox, although it doesn’t last too long (anywhere from 7-10 hours depending on your skill level). The multiplayer component can hold its own with the Halo 2’s and Rainbow Six’s of the world and proves to be the first big first-person shooter of 2005, especially for Xbox Live gamers. Fans of the genre should, at the very least, give this one a rental just to try out the tasty weapons and gadgets. Look past the lukewarm visuals and don’t judge until you actually get time with this bad boy.

Project: Snowblind is a well-done console first person shooter that may not set the world on fire but with solid action both in solo and multiplayer mode you could do a lot worse. If you’re a fan of Deus Ex or just a fan of first person shooters in general, then PS is definitely worth your attention.

It should be noted that we haven't had a chance to test Snowblind's online options since the game isn't out yet, but it certainly looks to have that aspect well covered. It supports up to 16 players, vehicles, and the typical assortment of modes (deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, assault, tactical assault, and more), leading us to be cautiously optimistic. If the online game comes close to matching the quality of the single-player stuff, it should be in good shape.

So there are a few niggles that stop this game being a classic. The game does nothing radically new, but it does take some good bits from other games and blend them together pretty well. And it does this with a polished, fast-paced feel. If you want realistic enemies you have here a game with good online support. This is a good title and one any fan of the genre should have in his or her collection.

So if you liked the look and feel of the Deus Ex games but couldn't get past the clunky combat, or if you just don't dig the whole role-playing-game thing, Project: Snowblind is just perfect for you. It's unlikely that Project: Snowblind will completely destroy you, because its pieces are a little too common to incite a paradigm shift. But the pieces are well conceived, and they're effectively assembled into a fast-paced and easy-to-get-into shooter with action that's responsive and just unique enough to entertain.

At the end of the day, Project: Snowblind manages to exceed the offerings of most Xbox shooters, but fails to capitalize on its full potential. Had more time been put into the story, the vehicles, and the slightly above par AI, this could have been a Halo-killer. As it is, I would easily recommend Project: Snowblind to any FPS enthusiast that currently owns a PS2 or Xbox.

Project: Snowblind is a rare breed of FPS these days, as it's both high in quality and uniqueness. The mechanics of Deus Ex work tremendously well in a high-intensity atmosphere, and the rest of the game's attributes fall into place as well. PS2 has been hurting for good action games since the calendar hit '05, and Project: Snowblind should fill the void nicely. I say pick this baby up.

At its roots is standard FPS fare, but the overall package of well-paced high-adrenaline action, with the added bonus of online multiplayer makes this worth picking up for a lot of PlayStation 2 owners.

Featuring support for up to 16 players on either Xbox Live! or PS2 Online, the game doesnât make any attempt to radically revolutionise what weâve come to expect from first-person-shooters, but its strong gameplay and enjoyable weapons/gadgets/abilities helps to make this one of the most enjoyable online console shooters. The standard variety of DeathMatch and Capture-The-Flag variants all feature, whilst thereâs enough customisation options to ensure youâll create the exact experience youâre after. Sadly thereâs no support for splitscreen whatsoever, although given the relative size of the maps and their support for 16-players, 4-player splitscreen just wouldnât be up to scratch.

PlayStation 2Game industry News (GiN)
The bottom line is that Project:Snowblind is a very solid well-balanced game all around the board. It combines and intensifies various addictive ingredients from other hot games of this genre making it the kind of game that consistently keeps you coming back for more action. This is definitely one to add to the probably already extensive list of first-person shooters in your gaming libraries. An admirable performance earns this game a worthy 4 Gin Gems.

Project: Snowblind is a great example of a T-rated shooter. There is no inappropriate language, no blood, no sexual situations or adult themes, just heavy and intense action. Think of it as a futuristic Call of Duty in terms of appropriateness for kids.

Whenever I get the urge to write a bunch of reviews, I always want write a review for Project Snowblind, but for some reason, I haven't been able to. Even though it has been over a year since I first played through Project Snowblind, I’ve never been able to put my thoughts onto the paper. Usually, when I really like a game, like I did Project Snowblind, it’s very easy for me to write my review. But, this game has me stumped. As much as I loved it, writing down what I love and why has been a more challenging than beating Project Snowblind was.

You are Nathan Frost, near death and basically no hope for survival. You become part of a top-secret project that transform you into into a bio-augmented super-soldier. Set in Hong Kong in 2065 you find yourself on a peacekeeping mission in an Asian civil war. Nathan, with his handy dandy new enhancements, is basically a one-man army with the ability to unleash havoc on the enemy. In short, he makes the million-dollar man look like like a penny-arcade timepiece.

Snowblind epitomizes sound development. It's as well-rounded a title as we're likely to see in this current generation of gaming. But, that doesn't mean it's perfect. The solid mechanics within this neatly presented package still lack a certain degree of charm, but Snowblind more than makes up for its slight hint of the mundane with a diverse and extraordinarily well-paced sort of action. And, even in a PC market flooded by quality FPS titles, that still means something.

Another letdown with Project: Snowblind is its presentation. The visuals and audio are certainly competent, but other than a few cool visual effects, little of the design really stands out. The weapons, vehicles, and characters look and sound like they could have come from any old sci-fi setting. There's just not much character to it. But that's not so bad. In this age when many developers spend most of their budgets on bells and whistles or licensed rock songs while forgetting the gameplay, Crystal Dynamics does it right by putting solid-as-a-rock gameplay first. Project: Snowblind may not break new ground, but it offers a superb sense of flow and pacing, exciting combat, and a treasure trove of weapons and gadgets. That's a formula for fun.

The truth of the matter is though, that there are far better shooters out there in the mix that have done stuff better and done it first. Halo, Red Faction, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake II and even much of the Medal of Honor series. Against classics like these, Project: Snowblind doesn't hold much of a candle. Its wax stick is more like a melting lump of goo in the palm of your hand. Project: Snowblind's most inviting attributes is its jumble of powers and weapon classifications. Everything else however is just not perpetuating the game in the genre-defining standards it should be setting instead of rehashing. You want to be a part of the most ingenious war ever caused? Keep walking -- because it's 1,000 or so miles far ahead from where Project: Snowblind's going.

PlayStation 2Jolt (UK)
Project: Snowblind is pretty straightforward stuff and consists mainly of linear, corridor based action, but it does its job as well as any other shooter available on the PS2. If you’re looking for a shooter similar in gameplay style to Medal of Honor and its various clones, or if you were a fan of the Deus Ex setting, then Project: Snowblind could offer you a good few evenings of fun.

77
WindowsGameSpot
Project: Snowblind started its life as a Deus Ex spin-off, with the purpose of capitalizing on that universe's rich fiction and distinct style by pairing it with a more visceral gameplay experience. Despite the fact that Project: Snowblind bears no official Deus Ex ties now, the game brandishes an almost identical near-future cyber-thriller feel, right down to the eerie blue circuit-board highlights on the hero's skin. Crystal Dynamics already delivered Snowblind to the Xbox and PlayStation 2 nearly a month before it arrived on the PC, and it will be apparent to PC shooter fans that the game was built specifically with these consoles in mind. It's not the prettiest shooter on the PC, but it's got a good amount of style, and the run-and-gun action stands up pretty well, regardless of the platform.

PlayStation 2PlayFrance

PlayStation 2Worth Playing
Project: Snowblind isn't bad, honestly. It just isn't as good as other offerings in its genre, and it offers occasional, frustrating glimpses of a much better game. If there's a sequel waiting in the wings, I'd like to see more biomods, a more specialized protagonist (if you can't have a Deus Ex-style customization system, then perhaps multiple main characters would work), and some seriously tweaked character classes.

The PC has long been a mecca for first-person shooters; in fact it had held the sole market for the best shooters for a several years before they started porting over classics like Doom and Wolfenstein to consoles. Interestingly enough, I played my first FPS on the Genesis, a game called Zero Tolerance that kept me up many a night.

I wish that Project: Snowblind had been more thoroughly playtested, because it’s really not a bad game—when it’s working. Sure, it’s derivative, but it’s also fast paced, well balanced, and fun. Hell, it’s even got respectable multiplayer. If Snowblind had been developed for the PC from the get-go instead of for the PS2, we might have had ourselves a beautiful friendship. Instead, its shortcomings make it just another one of the usual suspects.

Snowblind deserves to succeed. It's clearly been tailored for a certain audience and one that's bigger than the hardcore minority that generally gravitate towards sites like these. On the other hand, Eidos and Crystal Dynamics needs to appreciate that by chasing the money, they alienate a section of people that have frankly seen all of this done before and done better with more of a challenge. We really wanted to rave about Snowblind; we appreciated what it was trying to do but in the end it holds the player's hand to such an extent that you just want the stabilisers to be kicked away so that the game can fulfil its obvious potential. Still utterly entertaining, just a little vacuous in truth. If you fancy the idea of action-oriented Deus Ex then a rental is completely essential as you'll easily romp through it inside two evenings. It's just tricky to justify owning Snowblind it at full price.

This game is yet another example of how a solid under-marketed title will get overshadowed by other games that suck. All in all, this is a good buy and well worth the shelf price of $40. If you do not feel comfortable spending $40 on a ten hour game, don’t worry, because the price should drop pretty fast. No doubt that this game is a complete steal at 20 bones.
