In case you haven't guessed it yet, I'm completely in love with ProStroke Golf World Tour 2007. I've been playing it for a few weeks now and can definitely report that it's the most accurate golf sim on the market to date. Now, I still adore my Tiger and Hot Shots, but what's here will drive you to distraction and be a staple of play stacks around the world once people get their hands on it. If you dislike golf games but are open-minded to learning, this will make you like them a lot. If you love golf, then you need this game in your collection, no question about it. Even though it's not online, invite your golf buddies over and boom - you'll be charging rent after a few rounds.ProStroke isn't a sleeper by any stretch of the imagination - it's the kick in the pants that the golf genre needed that relies strictly on great gameplay as its hook. Brilliant.

There are several elements in ProStroke that spell a large leap forward. There are a few that represent a big step back. I know that every game can’t contain every feature, but this multiplatform title misses some of the big ones. The biggest omission is the online game. If you want to hit the links with your friends, they’ll have to wear their goofy pants while they sit on your couch. The ability to play online would have extended the gameplay of this game heavily, and would encourage others to experience this innovative title. As it stands, it’ll have to rely on reviews like this one, and word of mouth. ProStroke is not your average golf title. While the overall presentation may lack the visual punch of a next-generation title, there is no doubt that the innovation in the gameplay and control areas more than make up for it. While this golf title may not be for everyone, it is certainly the best golf simulator to date

For those of us without real-life golf credentials, there is as much or more attraction to fantasy courses and players than actual pros and locations. It would be neat to see a game like Hot Shots offering a more simulated experience to match the swing mechanics featured in ProStroke Golf. There's no denying that this game works well on a conceptual level. Beyond concept it happens to be a fun experience with a good list of options and depth. If the next version includes true 'net play and some extensions to the play experience via downloadable courses, ProStroke Golf could become an excellent franchise.

For the serious golfer on the go, ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007 is the only way to play. The fluid and intuitive controls provide a refreshing change of pace, and a great level of challenge. The graphics are well above par for the PSP, and the addition of course creation modes and online play should definitely keep you coming back for more. Ultimately, what we have here is a spectacular example of a portable golf game that definitely stays out of the rough stuff.

ProStroke Golf simply can’t compete with breadth of EA’s Tiger Woods series, though it does show an interesting start for a new franchise. To give the newcomer the benefit of the doubt, it’s a decent game of golf, but more importantly a foundation for the future, if Oxygen should wish to attempt it. Tiger Woods the video game, just like the real-life golfer, seems to be unbeatable, but some day there should be a capable challenger that threatens to kick the king off his throne. Perhaps ProStroke Golf will be that challenger, though this 2007 version just isn’t there yet.

ProStroke Golf continues to offer an alternative to EA's gargantuan golfing franchise, even on the PSP, though the decision to drop the first-person perspective when lining up a shot, and the PSP's single-nipple disability, does bring the gameplay gap between the two a tad closer. Coming over two months after its rival was released on the handheld platform may mean that ProStroke on PSP may just be a couple of strokes behind.

ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007 offers up what hardcore golfing fans have been waiting for. With its realistic and unique approach to swinging the club, all the way to the amazing course creator, this game is the full package. Try not to spend so much time on the course creator that you forget about the golfing aspect of the game. The career mode is a fun experience as well that shouldn’t be overlooked, especially at this game’s price point.

After spending a good number of hours with Gusto Games' great new control system I couldn't shake the thought that I wanted to play EA's Tiger Woods series with this control scheme. What ProStroke delivers is the most in-depth control system I can imagine working on a standard console controller, but the game that's built around it simply isn't exciting enough to sway Tiger fans over to a new series. Just like the real Tiger Woods, a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes, but while Tiger can step out looking and playing the part, ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007 isn't ready to win a major; it could well be rookie of the year.

ProStroke Golf is a game for golfers, thanks to the innovative control scheme and camera angle. But the controls aren't enough to separate it from the rest of the passable golf games on the market, and the mediocre visuals and presentation don't help ProStroke's cause very much. However, the gameplay is solid and fun and realistic, and a clear departure from the direction of Hot Shots and Tiger Woods PGA Tour. At only $29.99, ProStroke is a decent purchase for golf gamers looking for more of challenge than Tiger, only without the roster of pros and amazing courses.

All in all Pro Stroke Golf has the potential to eventually be the most realistic golf game on the market, but I'm not sure whether that is such a good thing. I can't be the only person who is totally put off by "real" golf. Even Mark Twain described the game as "a good walk, spoiled." The truly hardcore golf fan may find some things to enjoy about this game and its console brethren, but I'll stick with my Tiger Woods and Hot Shots, thank you very much.

ProStroke Golf 2007 is a little rough around the edges and, in truth, we prefer the more light-hearted, primary-coloured fun of Sony's Everybody's Golf. However there's no denying that there will be players for whom a realistic golf game that embraces golf geek sensibilities is very welcome. The game's depth provides potentially greater rewards to the most committed player and, as the game never pretends to be anything other than a serious golf sim, it's hard to knock its dedication.

Anyway, we've warned you enough - this isn't a game for golfing softies (like us), or for people who like to play golf as cartoon dragons, but for those amongst you seeking a title that can relay the subtleties involved in swinging a golf club better than most games before it. It's ultra-realistic, and terribly serious. But so long as you know what you're letting yourself in for, and can invest the effort required, it should keep you glued for some time.

If you're more interested in speed golf, bashing the ball through hoops in the air and competing for "trophy balls", and you're happy with the way Tiger works, you needn't take much notice of ProStroke Golf, but if you're tired of jumping through those same hoops every year and haven't been very impressed with EA's recent "refinements", then this might prove to be a better, less gaudy option. It takes golf seriously, and it makes a nice difference. Just don't expect to be teeing off on the moon or anything.

I think the game will appeal most to people that want something new, but don't feel the need to get Tiger's release year after year. I seldom get a game every year it comes out. I like to shake it up, which makes going back to the usual game even more special. So far, although it has many shortcomings, I think this is a worthy break from EA Sports for 2007. In fact, I will bet that some of the detailed swing features make themselves into EA in 2008. There isn't much else to copy, but that swing setup is unique and challenging.

I really enjoyed ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007 when I first started playing it. It was a serious game that didn’t have all the flash and unnecessary extras of those other golf games. It looked real and played even more real, but after a few days the sad realization sunk in that this game was just too slow to be played on the PSP. Plus, when you factor in all those odd glitches that somehow survived the six months of retooling this game has undergone for its PSP debut, you have to wonder what Gusto Games has been doing. ProStroke is definitely a step in the right direction as far as where serious golf games need to go, but there is still a lot of work to be done before this game is up to par.

Overall, Pro Stroke Golf is a decent golf game trying to compete with a far superior series from EA. I don't see why anyone would buy this game when they can just as easily get more features in every area from Tiger Woods PGA Tour. If you're really into drunken commentators though, this is the only game in town.

When you consider the amount of competition ProStroke Golf World Tour 2007 is up against and the considerable amount of development that has gone into some of the older golfing game titles, it fares pretty well. The swing system is just about as complex and variable as possible, without becoming overwhelming or cumbersome to use. I would have liked to see an equally strong putting system in place, but this part seems to have been oversimplified. Some basic graphics cleanup and styling improvements could help this title enormously. If you are an avid golfing gamer who enjoys playing some of lesser-known world courses, you might want to consider ProStroke Golf World Tour 2007 as a supplement to your library of golf titles.

I just couldn't get onboard with this title. Again, flashes of brilliance that are quickly snuffed by uninspired course selection, lack of online play and improper physics.

Like I said before, there is room for another golf franchise, and with some of the things this game is leaning towards I think we may be on the verge of a real quality franchise, it's just not here quite yet. Here's hoping I'm right.

'ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007' richtet sich dank seiner realitätsnahen Umsetzung vor allem an Simulationsprofis, die auf den 18 schön gestalteten Kursen sicher ihre Freude mit dem Spiel haben werden. Alle anderen werden wegen des ansonsten sehr geringen Umfangs und der zahlreichen technischen Probleme wenig Freude haben.

What Pro Stroke Golf lacks is a hook to bring in typical gamers. The game boasts pros like Sergio Garcia, Ben Curtis and Ian Woosnam, as well as commentary from Sam Torrance, Ian Baker-Finch and Alan Green. But while these names might appeal to serious golfers, they don't have the international or casual appeal of a Tiger Woods. And the aspirations to strict realism can make for nail-biting attempts to hit under par, but they lack the wacky characters and exploding golf balls that pull in football and backgammon players alike. That makes Pro Stroke Golf a game for real golfers with a bit of time on the way to the green.

PSPvideogamer.com
While the control scheme for the PSP version of ProStroke Golf is a great attempt to bring the console game to the handheld, it doesn't quite feel as intuitive, and ends up being a little over complex for a PSP game. Whether or not you should buy ProStroke on the PSP comes down to whether or not you want more control than the Tiger Woods series gives you. The EA game has better presentation and is far simpler to get to grips with, but ProStroke has more depth and is the more rewarding game if you're willing to invest the time into a handheld game.

Overall, Prostroke Golf: World Tour 2007 isn't a bad game, although it's below average when it comes to golf. It gets so caught up in trying to faithfully recreate the sport that it forgets what it means to have fun in a portable video game. It offers a lot of playability for the golf faithful, but almost nothing for everyone else. There are better games, both golf-related and otherwise, on which to spend 20 to 30 bucks.

There’s really not much more to say about Pro Stroke Golf. It’s a basic golf simulation that’s fundamentally sound. Ultimately, I think your purchasing decision should come down to if you like golf or not. I’m not an avid golfer, so I didn’t get much out of it, but if you really like golf, you might enjoy the very robust course creator. Me, I wasn’t all that particularly impressed. There aren’t any professional golfers to emulate, so I couldn’t pick a professional that I knew. Still, at times, it can be really exciting getting a birdie or an eagle on a late hole in the match, sealing the deal for a win. If you like golf, I think you should buy this, but keep in mind, it might not have all the features you’re looking for.

Overall ProStroke Golf is like an afternoon spent at an old muni course. You can have some fun with it but overall it’s bland and functional. And given a choice wouldn’t you rather spend your time on a lush course on the shores of Hawaii?

It's not all fairways and short putts; the strength/accuracy meter feels shockingly inaccurate and sluggish. It's a part of every single shot you take, so more time spent making this aspect feel professional would have done wonders for the overall game. That said, you still have an enjoyable, serious game of golf here, with decent commentary and a course builder for cock-shaped links. If you have a knowledge and love of golf, this might give you a more substantial - if less fun - game than Tiger Woods.

ProStroke Golf is really an all around average game. There's really no reason to play it. If you want a realistic golf game, stick with Tiger Woods.

ProStroke Golf is a game that will appeal to a very select crowd. Those that are looking for a solid golf game that uses a unique skill-based control system will definitely appreciate what Oxygen Games has tried to do with this game. The course designer is a very nice touch, though it sometimes leads to crashes. All in all, ProStroke Golf could have a bright future, if they would address the technical issues and bring the presentation up to par. As it stands, the game is worth a shot, but it may not hold your interest for very long.

ProStroke Golf's action on the course is just good enough to be entertaining for a short while, but its many problems keep it from being fun for very long. Too few golfers, horrible commentary, pitiful create-a-character options, and dreadfully slow gameplay are just a few of the game's many shortcomings. It's a shame the developers didn't address these holdover issues from the console versions in the six months they spent bringing it to the PSP, especially since the PSP version currently costs twice as much. Having 2007 in the title indicates that Gusto Games has at least considered a follow-up effort, but the developers have a lot of work ahead of them before this series can be mentioned alongside Tiger Woods, Links, and Hot Shots.

Perhaps the game's biggest problem is in terms of graphics. They're bad. Really, really bad. The terrain in particular is simplistic and bland. Several of the obstacles feature some of the worst pixelization I have seen in years. Even the golfers themselves look below average, with animation so stiff it's almost painful to watch. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to recreate a realistic golf swing, but ProStroke proves otherwise. Other problems include the dull looking courses, the problematic camera, and the lack of color variety. In short, the game looks awful.

Maybe that's the biggest problem with ProStroke. Had I been forced to play through things for the review, there's no way I would have stuck around more than a couple of minutes. Once you do, of course, there's some decent stuff to explore, and the whole Renown rewards system is addictive in that same way Achievements in Xbox 360 games are, but this is not a game for anything but hardcore players. The fact that a game like Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee is already on the PSP and brings nearly everything a golf gamer could want short of actual players to the table just means that ProStroke will likely never be recognized for what good it has -- especially because the whole package and presentation is so bland.

It’s hard to beat the champ at his own game. If you want to try, you better be ready to put your best foot forward or you’ll be left out of the pack. ProStroke Golf on the PSP doesn’t measure up to its big brother counterparts on the Xbox or PS2, and it doesn’t measure up to the other golfing games available on the PSP. If you are dying for a course editor, then this might be your best bet at making your fantasy golf course on the go. Otherwise, the game is largely forgettable.

Overall, Pro Stroke Golf: World Tour 2007 is a decent golf game. My biggest thing against it is that it isn't Tiger Woods PGA Tour. I have really grown to like how Tiger plays out and "World Tour 2007" just doesn't have the same feeling. Despite, it still has enough punch and controls that don't necessarily feel natural, but do provide more fine-grain control. In the end, Pro Stroke Golf: World Tour 2007 is a decent game that is worth renting for the hardcore golf gamers who need their fix for on-the-go-gaming. But again, be prepared for it not being nearly as fun or engaging as Tiger.

There are pro golfers to play against, but it's oldsters like Mark O'Meara and second-stringers such-as Ben Curtis, not the big boys like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. In fact, that's ProStroke in a nutshell: A devoted wannabe who shows potential - and who certain golf nuts will probably applaud - but who needs to keep polishing his fundamentals before he can take one from the sport's seasoned pros.
50
PlayStation 2Video Game Talk
In the end ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007 just isn't a compelling game to play. The swinging mechanic may be realistic but in many ways that feature was achieved to a fault. It's not entirely user friendly and only the most diehard of diehard really need to apply. Casual golf gamers should stick with the more mainstream titles but you're looking for an authentic experience you may want to consider picking this one up.

I consider ProStroke Gold World Tour 2007 a game with loads of potential, but not delivering on that this go-round. I'm interested to see the next iteration, for sure – if they can eliminate most of the issues I've raised, it becomes an immediate contender for the Grand Slam.

ProStroke Golf could have been a contender. But its solid play mechanics aren't enough to overcome the near-complete lack of licensed courses and golfers, or the various other oversights and issues that plague it.

Make no mistakes about it; Pro Stroke Golf: World Tour 2007 is a bad effort by unknown developer Gusto Games. When you first put it in, you are immediately assaulted by offensively-bad graphics and a career mode that lacks substance. Players would do well to wait for Tiger, he’s making his yearly appearance soon enough.

ProStroke Golf – World Tour 2007 is an obvious first attempt into the genre. Hopefully, the feedback can be taken well by the developer, as they could, some day, have a good golf game on our hands that doesn’t have the name Links or Tiger Woods. But that day isn’t today. That day may be far off. For now, I’d rather play Ping Pals. Or maybe not...

I give ProStroke Golf – World Tour 2007 points for innovation. You know me; I’m a sucker for trying new things in sports gaming. But, the new controls do not come close to making up for what is essentially a poorly-made game. I think the franchise has a chance if they spend some time working on the rest of the game this year and just fine-tune the controls. But, I can’t in good conscience recommend this game for purchase unless you really want an alternative to EA's Tiger Woods series. The controls are certainly worth a try, but even at the low price point, it’s just not enough.

The bad far outweighs the good in ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007. The "innovative" controls publisher Oxygen Interactive has been bragging about these last couple of months aren't that innovative at all, and aren't really even necessary. The graphics look like they are from a game made 10 years ago, and the gameplay modes that are offered are very limited and nothing special. It's a good thing real golf wasn't this bad, or guys like Tiger and Phil would be working at McDonald's, and middle-aged men around the world would have nothing to look forward to after retirement. Unless you really, really, really, can't wait for Tiger Woods 07, don't waste your time with ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007. Now if you'll excuse me, Mario's just challenged me to a game of Club Slots at Blooper Bay.

While the innovative ProStroke golf swing system goes the whole nine, it's got a ways to go before it makes it all the way to the 18th. Kudos for bringing the game of golf back to its mechanics and giving non-Golden Tee fans what they've been craving. Pour as much attention-to-detail into the rest of the game, and the ProStroke name will have a fighting chance against Tiger & Co.
