Numerous films, comics and videogames have taught us one thing about Aliens, Predators and marines. They just don't get on.

The epic squabbling of all three races spills over once more in Aliens Versus Predator: Extinction. Taking the form of an RTS - or Real Time Strategy, a genre you don't see too often on PS2 - you must choose a species and make strategic use of your environment to gain the upper hand in terms of territory, upgrades and weaponry.

Being able to play as all three species adds variety to the gameplay, and the addition of new types of Aliens, Predators and Marines means there's plenty of scope for tailoring the perfect strategy to get ahead. For example, you can select a particular type of Alien to morph into a Queen, thus allowing you to lay eggs and create facehuggers. And let's face it - we've all wanted to lay Alien eggs at some point, haven't we?

Nachdem eine kleine Gruppe von Colonial Marines auf dem Planeten LV-742 sowohl Predators als auch Aliens entdeckt, ist klar, der Konflikt muss beendet werden. Nach jahrelangen kleinen Schlachten gibt es nur noch einen Weg zur absoluten Herrschaft über die Galaxie - KRIEG! Der Kampf gegen die Feinde ist der einzige Weg, den Erhalt seiner eigenen Spezies zu sichern ... sonst droht das Aussterben. Basierend auf den weltweit bekannten Topfilmen wurde mit diesem Spiel zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte von Aliens versus Predator-Videospielen ein Spiel für Konsolen der nächsten Generation entwickelt.

In diesem Echtzeit-Strategiespiel kann der Spieler das Kommando über eine Streitmacht der 3 Spezies übernehmen und sie mit 10 aufrüstbaren Kampfeinheiten pro Spezies durch 21 Einzelspielermissionen führen. Er muss einen Angriffsplan erstellen und seine Armee aus einer Liste von Einheiten selbst zusammenstellen. Er kann auch selbst Upgrades auswählen – von Sichtmodi zum schnellen Entdecken von Feinden bis hin zu knallharten Waffenverbesserungen ist alles vorhanden. Jede Spezies hat einzigartige Fähigkeiten. Als Colonial Marines verlässt man sich vor allem auf die militärische Ausbildung der Einheiten und die modernsten Hightech-Waffen der Weyland-Yutani Corporation, um die Bevölkerung des Planeten LV-742 zu retten. Die Predators arbeiten viel mit Tarnung und hochentwickelten Jagdtechniken, um sich den Respekt des Ältestenrats zu sichern. Die Aliens greifen in Herden an, um ihre Gegner außer Gefecht zu setzen und sie dann für die Entwicklung perfekter biologischer Waffen einzusetzen. Der Spieler hat Zugriff auf eine Reihe von Einheiten – von einfachen Kämpfern bis hin zu hochspezialisierten Kriegern wie den Überträgern (sie bringen die gefürchteten Facehugger an die Front), den extrem brutalen und schwer bewaffneten Militär-Predators oder den Marine Exosuit mit Hydraulik-Antrieb. Jede Einheit kann aufgerüstet werden und erhält somit immer neue Fähigkeiten.

Aufregend wird es, wenn der Spieler den vielfältigen Planeten erforscht – mit tropischen Dschungel-Landschaften, Höhlen, Wüsten und hochentwickelten Laboren auf 21 verschiedenen Karten.

Each species offers unique attributes. As the Colonial Marines, you will count on your military training and the latest hi-tech weaponry from the Weyland-Yutani Corporation to save the human population of LV-742. The Predators must use their stealth and highly evolved hunting techniques to gain the respect of the council of Ancients. Aliens will attack in hordes to incapacitate their enemies, impregnating them, and using them to evolve into the ultimate biological weapons.

Players' pulses will pound as they roam the eerie, multi-environment planet featuring tropical jungles, caverns, desert settlements and high tech laboratories placed across 21 different maps.
