By all accounts Army Men: Green Rogue is a failure. The graphics are forced, the sound is average at best and the games longevity just isn't there. The biggest fault however is the complete lack of fun while playing the game. Being forced along the path at the computers pace is the biggest fault of all as there is no real sense of control. Throw in some dodgy aiming controls and what you end up with is a game that should never have gone past the initial design stages at 3DO. This game is much better off left on the shelves. If you really want an Army Men game you would do much better off picking off Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2. Army Men Green Rogue is very poor.

Although I see where 3DO was trying to go with Army Men: Green Rogue -- it smacks of Ikari Warriors more than anything else -- the game trips, stumbles, and falls flat on its face. Repetitive, buggy, and downright boring, I can only imagine the type of people that would get real enjoyment out of Green Rogue. And I fear them. I can heartily recommend to everyone to stay away from this game, unless you rent it to see the nice FMV. In a word: ugh.

Air Attack, as per usual, is the only light among the Army Men games that manages to shine with any kind of quality execution. Unfortunately, now Green Rogue is here, to join its other fellows in trying to drown that one light out.

Navigating through the game takes some getting used to as the left stick controls the character and the right stick, his weapons. Ironically, by the time you figure it out, chances are you'll be yawning and looking for another game to pop in the PS2 instead.

Army Men: Green Rogue is the latest addition to 3DO's growing library of Army Men games for the PS2. In many ways, Green Rogue pays tribute to classic arcade shooters of old, like Ikari Warriors or Commando, with a scrolling field of play, droves of hostile enemies, and an amazing amount of gunfire thrown in your direction. However, Green Rogue's cumbersome gameplay makes it a much more frustrating game than those that inspired it.

Gaming Age
All in all if you can get passed the horrid control, you may find an entertaining game. Old school shooter fans may even eat this up. This still doesn?t mean the game is worthy to grace the PlayStation 2, either from a graphical or gameplay standpoint. Portal Runner seems to be taking these steps, but Green Rogue falls short of even being a good title.

Seldom has a videogame bored, depressed and insulted me the way "Army Men: Green Rogue" did when I took it for a spin with a bud. It's a decent idea, which 3DO has executed as badly as it could possibly be (which might explain why it comes on a CD-ROM instead of a DVD-ROM). Stick with "Air Attack 2".

All Game Guide
Army Men: Green Rogue offers up some furious action with plenty of enemies on the screen, but its numerous problems keep it from being a proper homage to the games that so obviously inspired it. As it stands, it is a sub-par action game that could have been a contender for those desiring a quick action fix -- if only some of the complications had been worked out before its release.

After playing Green Rogue for a small amount of time, it's obvious that this game was rushed out the door and I can't understand why. Did 3DO feel that releasing two Army Men games at the same time wasn't enough? Was it really necessary to get this one to market that quickly? Luckily, 3DO made it easy for you to choose which one to buy. Army Men Air Attack 2 is clearly the winner of this beauty contest. Sarge's Heroes 2 is the runner up and Green Rogue is the fat girl with the moustache.

Game Revolution
Army Men: Green Rogue is a take on the old school vertical-scrolling shooters gone horribly wrong. Its simplicity is shattered by terrible control and the fun factor diminishes at the speed of light. Someone needs to recycle this plastic and make something more useful, like a toilet paper holder.

As you may remember from my previous Army Men reviews, I’ve been pretty flippant in my dismissal of the series. I just couldn’t resist the urge to savage what has become perhaps the most reviled franchise (at least by video game journalists) in history. At this point, though, I’m starting to feel like a jock picking on the Special Ed. students in high school. It’s almost sad, really.

Army Men, the cancerous cyst on the video game industry’s heinie, continues to grow more repulsive by the day. Need proof? Check out Green Rogue. And you thought the worst was behind us?
