Seriously though, if I were reviewing Call of Duty: Finest Hour on the Xbox – what with its plethora of top-shelf shooters – I probably wouldn’t be so enthusiastic about this game. But given that the PS2 is severely lacking in quality FPS’s, especially those with online components – this game has me sold. Having read countless other reviews about Call of Duty: Finest Hour, I was expecting it to be a letdown…boy was I wrong. This game rocks.
Call of Duty: Finest Hour is the best PS2 shooter I've played all year. It's the best Xbox shooter as well, second only to Halo 2 (did you really expect any game to top Bungie this year?). It's different from Halo 2, very different, so Xbox players should be aware of that before jumping in. Granted, the differences are good ones. Some gamers like their shooters to be fast and spacey, like Halo 2. Others like their games to be more realistic, more down to earth, like Call of Duty. I like both, which is why I must play both.
While Finest Hour sets no standards for originality, that's not what it's trying to do. It's simply trying to be the best console WWII shooter ever created, and in this it almost certainly succeeds. The single-player game is short, yes, but it's incredibly epic (in the cinematic definition of the term), and multiplayer should keep you playing long after the main campaign is over. It's understandable if you hold off on the Xbox version to play more Halo 2 for now, but for PS2 and GameCube owners, this is one of the surest bets available this holiday season.
If you like First Person Shooters, and have an interest in World War II, then there is little reason not to buy Call of Duty: Finest Hour. It may be a little on the short side but the game is interesting enough to have you coming back for more. The multi-player options will also keep those with online adapters busy, although I did encounter some small lag issues with people over long distances. Highly recommended for fans of the genre.
Call of Duty: Finest Hour is a good immersive game, with loads of little innovations and quirks that make it fun to play. The campaigns are all varied, but not enough time is spent with each character, and despite it being great fun it’s let down by being too short and ending on an anticlimax - the war will definitely be over by Christmas.
Call of Duty comes to the PlayStation 2 and it can be considered a success. Whilst the game never reaches the excellence of the PC Call of Duty it's still a very enjoyable game with a solid online mode. Without a doubt it's the best FPS game on the PlayStation 2 that's arrived in time for Christmas.
While it's certainly not going to steal any thunder from its PC-based brother, Call of Duty: Finest Hour is the best WWII shooter currently available on a console. It's rich with historical details, colorful characters, and interesting locales, and you'll find yourself immersed in the intense combat sequences. Although the single player campaign is on the short side, a solid multiplayer mode will ensure that you'll still be playing it a few months from now. If you're looking to fight in the Big One, it's time to answer the call.
CoD:FH has some issues that hinder its position in the hierarchy of console FPSs. None of the issues are wholly detrimental to the game, because playing through it is a worthwhile experience. However, sluggish controls, sketchy A.I., watered-down stories, and a frustrating lack of checkpoints block this game from stepping into the FPS V.I.P. room. On the good side, it does have atmosphere, varied gameplay, and interesting, authentic weaponry. If the next version addresses the problems, Activision and Spark could have a formidable FPS on their hands.

Call of Duty: Finest Hour has been "consolized" and turned from a somewhat challenging and often intense PC first-person shooter into a bland, run-and-gun console pop-gun game. It's certainly not bad and is enjoyable throughout, but it just doesn't excel in a single area. The brilliant concept of following three individual stories of the Allied campaign against the Nazis has been watered down with too many perspectives and no cohesive or interesting story. I cared nothing for any of the characters and felt like I was just going through the motions the entire game. A lack of checkpoints in the majority of levels is questionable and sometimes frustrating. Finest Hour had the pedigree to become the finest console World War II game, but in the end fails to bring any spark or intensity to a story about courage and sacrifice.

When it comes down to the bottom line, Call of Duty: Finest Hour comes across more like its weakest days. A lack of checkpoints, imperfect weapon design and control along with a lack of a story that players will care for makes this the low point for the impressive franchise. If you’re a WWII buff or a Call of Duty fan, you’ll probably pick this game up. Otherwise, you may want to rent this one to see if you’ll enlist it for your collection.
Avec Call of Duty: Finest Hour, on a un jeu mi-figue, mi-raisin : le jeu propose certes un bon défi, mais on a plus l’impression d’avoir une version inachevée. C’est le jeu où vous jouerez une mission de temps en temps ou que vous louerez, mais pas celui qui vous laissera accroché à votre écran. A moins qu’Activision nous sorte un "Director’s Cut" fort remanié. Qui sait? tout est possible à Hollywood.
Overall, Call of Duty: Finest Hour is still a competent shooter, and those who enjoy World War II-based games will still have a good time with it. Had the feel of the weapons been a little better, and had the campaign been more consistently intense, Finest Hour could have been a much better game. As it is, though, it enters a market that becomes more and more competitive with each passing month. Judged against the standards of so many other quality first-person shooters, Finest Hour is difficult to wholeheartedly recommend.
Finest Hour may not look or sound as good as some of the first person shooters available to the Xbox, and it certainly doesn't hold a candle to the almighty Halo, but it's a fun game nonetheless. The campaign mode doesn't hold a lot of replay value, but there is enough content that it should take you awhile to complete. All in all, it's a good title, but with so much outstanding competition in the first person shooter market, this game falls short of the mark by comparison.
Le sous-genre du FPS hollywoodien commence à sérieusement prendre du plomb dans l'aile. Il est vrai que ce nouveau CoD a ses bons moments, mais il faut, pour y accéder, en passer par des séances de jeu banales, énervantes parfois. Mais c'est surtout l'inconsistance de l'IA ou du gameplay en lui-même qui réserve le titre aux moins regardants, ceux qui ne sont pas troublés par le fait de sniper dans les talons.
Débarqué sur consoles après le succès mérité de la mouture PC, Call of Duty : Le jour de gloire déçoit un peu pour sa première incursion sur machines de salon. Si on y retrouve avec joie l'ambiance très travaillée de l'original, avec un débarquement sur Stalingrad qu'on n'oublie pas et d'autres grands moments du même acabit, et cette variété dans le gameplay très agréable, on ne peut en revanche qu'être déçu par le level design, la mise en scène ou les checkpoints étranges et bien trop rares. Alors certes, on est diverti par ces séquences classiques mais sans grand génie et on essaye tant bien que mal de s'impliquer dans l'aventure malgré la valse des héros dans la campagne solo, mais l'impression générale reste assez mitigée dans l'ensemble. Un bel effort pour une adaptation pas vraiment facile, mais qui ne convainc pas totalement.
