Bargain bin gaming doesn't get much better than this, aside from Ford Racing 2, which is also published by Global Star. The graphics and sound aren't cutting edge, but get the job done, which is their overall purpose. The loading screens are longer than an average game, but then again, so were Ford Racing 2's, and I loved that game. All in all, Corvette is a solid racing game that doesn't push the limits, but is fun through and through.

Game Chronicles
There is a racing game and doesn’t aspire to be anything more then that. It’s slightly above average in almost every aspect and matches that with a low low price. Now if the game was bad, you could simply file it away as a bad purchase and be out ten dollars. Such things have happened in the past I’m sure. Allowing the price tag to act as judge jury and executioner for this game would be a grave mistake.

One thing that you can always count on about videogame systems is that there are tons of racing games on the market. The choice of titles is simply endless. You have your fun games like Mario Kart; you have your serious games like NASCAR; killer games on the Playstation 2 such as the Gran Turismo series; and you have the online games like Project Gotham Racing 2. The main problem is that the market is so flooded with racing titles; it becomes hard to find the good games from the crappy ones. It also seems like a racing game is released every month for the Xbox, GameCube and Playstation 2 systems. And now the Playstation 2 has yet another game to add to the racing library. This game is titled Corvette. And as you can tell, it is based around the famous car known as the Corvette. So how does it play? Is this $10 title worth it? Yes and no. Read on and find out because you may be disappointed in what I have to say.

Of course there are a couple of things that I didn't like, one being the "auto-catch up" feature that kicks in automatically if you get too far ahead of your competitors or they get too far ahead of you. And the game takes a little longer to load then most, which started to bug me after a while. And most importantly the auto-catch up feature which just plain drives me nuts!

There's a saying that says "You get what you paid for." Well, in this case of Corvette, a competent budget-price racing title, you actually get a little bit more.

When Chevrolet decided to go with a fully branded racer, it did not consider two things: 1) All Corvettes does not equal all fun for all people. 2) Selling a title for $10 means getting exactly $10 worth of game. This new budget racer -- that can set a man back approximately one half a restaurant steak -- may technically be worth $10 simply because it's cleverly priced at $10, but that is not a testament to its quality. What Corvette boasts, no other well-produced racer bothers to. What Corvette doesn't offer, however, every other well-produced racer implements as a de facto standard.

Worth Playing
Overall, this game was pretty bad, and I did not enjoy it. It was a nice concept to have a game completely devoted to Corvettes, but the game physics need to be fixed. They need to find a better music mixer and work on the background graphics. The graphics they chose were not necessarily bad, but it was just too grainy to enjoy. If you are a Corvette fan, you may enjoy this game, and it may be a steal for its price, but I suggest the rest of you stay as far as possible. If you like Corvettes, I suggest you turn to the Corvette in GT3 or wait until GT4 comes out (limited Corvette exposure but you’ll enjoy it a lot more). I would also strongly suggest R: Racing Evolution, since it does have a few old school power cars that you may enjoy.

I imagine that good money was paid to General Motors for this license, but it's a shame that the developer couldn't also license some fun gameplay to go along with the Corvette name.

It certainly stands to reason that a racing game built around one of the most timeless domestic racing machines would be a great idea. Watch a Corvette roll down a busy street, and you'll see a lot of heads turn to follow it. The tight handling, powerful engine, and delicate precision in its design are all hallmarks of its long racing lineage. Corvette, which was originally brought out on the Xbox by TDK, is now available on the PS2 as well. However, the game once again falls flat in just about every way a Corvette or racing fan enthusiast could hope it would succeed.

To some, Chevrolet's Corvette is the quintessential sports car: an icon of speed and a hallmark of American engineering. It makes sense, then, to give the line its due in the game world. So to celebrate the Corvette's 50th anniversary, Global Star has released the PS2 version of Corvette for the extremely inexpensive price of $9.99. It's not quite as bad as other games in that price range, but you still end up getting what you pay for.
