us.playstation.com:
Technology has finally caught up with ambition, and racing games have entered a new dimension.

Square Soft, fine crafters of the Role Playing Game genre, are turning their eye for detail to another genre demanding meticulous attention and intense passion. The first racer out of the house that gave us Final Fantasy (unless you count their Rad Racer back in the 8-bit days...things have changed around here), Driving Emotion Type-S attempts to be the auto enthusiasts' racer. Official cars accurately modeled from production models by Acura, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, Alfaromeo, TVR, and BMW are the game's hallmark. Racing head to head with the premium wheels of Gran Turismo will be one fierce challenge, but this offering includes a complete driving school to teach drivers the finesse of racing--how to handle a corner or foresee a pass and plan ahead. Master your skills completely, because in the real world of racing provided in Driving Emotion, there is no margin for error, and there are no rewards for those who can't feel the ride.

Back of Box:

    THE SENSATION OF DRIVING.

Many racing games have strived for this goal. Now technology has finally caught up with ambition, and racing games have entered a new dimension.

    DRIVING EMOTION TYPE-S

  • Realistic physics engine simulates collisions, suspension techniques, acceleration and handling

  • Choose between normal or simulation mode depending on how realistic you want the handling

  • Real cars from manufacturers such as Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Subaru, Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Alfa Romeo and TVR

  • Real tracks, like the famous SUZUKA and TSUKUBA Circuits along with a bonus track exclusive to the U.S. and European versions of DRIVING EMOTION TYPE-S

From EGM Magazine:
    Brakes are for sissies.

Simulate the sensation of driving as closely as possible.

That was our goal. Technology has finally caught up with our ambition and racing will never be the same. Everything, from the exterior and interior form and distinct behavior of the cars to the racing circuits, has been painstakingly recreated using data provided by manufacturers and drivers.

From uk.playstation.com:
Tapping into the popularity of the racing game genre, which is sure to increase even more with the launch of PS2, Square have developed Driving Emotion Type S a Japanese take on racing. Featuring one and two-player modes, the game includes a variety of courses, such as the Suzuka and Tsukuba circuits, a highway course and some European tracks. You can also select between two driving views: outside the car or inside the car. And it goes without saying that a dazzling array of some beautiful machinery is on offer - Honda, Subaru, Alfa Romeo and TVR are all represented, complete with authentically modelled interiors.
