Drome Racers will prove to be a good, non-violent, racing game for children this Christmas season, but if you are an older gamer, it will not prove to be that much of a challenge to you. If you wish to play a game that is more challenging and is set in the future, check out Wipeout Fusion.

Drome Racers captures the essence of the LEGO racing world pretty well. The cars look great, as do the environments. Almost everything about it stylistically matches up to the license. The game's graphics engine is pretty solid and everything moves at a pretty quick pace. Add in the weapons and you've got quite an action-oriented racer.

The coolest thing would have been a combination of Rollcage (itself a Wipeout clone...) and the great LEGO Racer 2. Without the benefit of interesting customization or extensive editors, Drome Racers comes off as a good futuristic racing game. But, with all the great racers in this category, I have a hard time recommending Drome Racers to anyone but a hardcore LEGO fan. If you're trying to recapture the fun of building and racing LEGO cars, Drome Racers just falls short. Not that you won't find solid racing action, but that's hardly a rare commodity these days...

If you want an entertaining future-racing game, purchase Extreme G3 or Wipeout Fusion. If, however, you want to get rid of forty bucks for no good reason, purchase Drome Racers.

GameSpot
Drome Racers is a futuristic racing game of middling quality that, for some inexplicable reason, carries the Lego license. If you're drawn to this title because of the Lego name, just know that there are better futuristic racing experiences to be had. If you're a fan of futuristic racers, there's probably nothing here to enjoy that you haven't already wrung out of better game.
