I really like racing, and I believe this is a great game. I do think that it might be geared towards F1 or strictly racing fans, though. There's not a lot here for casual gamers to get into. There's no 'create-a-car,' or 'create-a-driver' for that matter. It really is a game of skill as any mistake will put you out of the race, just like a real F1 race. So I would buy this game if I were a huge fan of F1 or a hard-core racing fan. If not, I would rent it first. It may or may not be your speed.

I hate it when I miss out on a good game, don't you? If so, then don't pass up the chance to play one of the greatest racers of the summer. Up until now, I didn't like F1 racers much (in fact, Driven was the only one I cared for), but knowing how much detail EA put into their games, I had to give this one a shot. Let me tell you, I am so glad that I did. The GameCube, Xbox and PC versions will be nearly identical, so if you don't have a PS2, be sure to check it out for the console that you own.

maybe I wouldn't walk into a store looking for F1 2002, but having been tasked with playing it for a while, I can honestly say it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. In fact, it was lots of fun. If it can entertain a driving dummy, such as myself, then fans of racing games, both hardcore and casual, are sure to enjoy it.

Now though, here in the year 2002, a lot has changed. EA is no longer exclusive to Sega, as Sega no longer are in the hardware business. Further more, EA no longer limits itself to just football games, as the EA brand name now supports a wide variety of athletic events. In light of this EA has begun to make games based on the F1 license. While previous installments have varied in quality, EA has hit gold with this new installment.

There are two ways to look at F1 2002. On the one hand, there's no question that this is a great Formula 1 game, another one in EA Sports' long-running F1 franchise. On the other hand, it is another one in EA Sports' long-running F1 franchise, and it doesn't offer a whole lot of reasons for those who bought F1 2001 to pick this one up. This game doesn't exist in a vacuum, and it loses a lot of its appeal when compared with last year's iteration, which was released only seven months ago.

Much more enthralling to me than NASCAR Heat or CART Fury ever was, F1 2002 is a pleasant diversion from the glut of street racers and stock car drivers that permeate the PlayStation 2. While the visuals need some work and the simulation aspect could be perceived as too difficult, there's plenty to enjoy here.

So what we have here is yet another great formula one title courtesy of Electronic Arts. What we don't get unfortunately are any major graphical improvements over the previous games in the series. F1 2002 does offer excellent playability though, and some of the most accurate (and fun!) track designs available in the formula one World Championship. Hardcore F1 fans will most likely want the game for the updated driver rosters and the overall feeling of speed and control of their favourite team of cars, but the overall presentation has the feeling of being slightly rushed and therefore those people looking for a bit more in the way of TV-style presentation may be put off by the no frills intros and menus. Recommended to speed freaks who don't mind an average frame rate.
