Just Adventure
If you are after a “boo, the zombie jumped out of the closet” or “bang, the mutant’s head exploded into thousands of gory pieces” game then skip FF3. Fatal Frame 3 is horror at its best, minus any cheap scares. It does an outstanding job of creeping you out while spinning a deep and distressing story that will get under your skin. Fatal Frame 3 is art; a horror masterpiece that redefines survival horror gaming in platinum letters. If you are a horror aficionado then do not miss this game at any cost, even if the price is an eternity of wandering the Manor of Sleep!

If you're a long-time fan of the series, Fatal Frame probably won't disappoint, though. Even if you haven't played it before, the combat system can be refreshing and if you're just a newbie to the Survival Horror genre altogether, it is a fun and frightening experience. Once you finish the game, you can always try tackling a harder difficulty, finding hidden ghosts that you missed, or attempt to unlock some of the optional costumes for the playable characters. Fatal Frame III really ties the entire series together and provides a good and complex plot with plenty of scares and frantic moments.

Game Chronicles
I had a great time with Fatal Frame III despite the aging controls and unoriginal gameplay. The story has never been better, and I enjoyed the multiple characters and parallel game worlds. And even though the gameplay is much slower paced than The Suffering or Resident Evil, the graphics and sound combine to create a continuous sense of tension that is just as scary as anything else on the shelf.

Worth Playing
In the end, FFIII is a quality title that doesn't necessarily stray from the proven groundwork laid down by its predecessors, but still manages to accomplishes to give you a good scare. It makes you feel like your surrounded by unpleasant spirits, although you can't always see them. The control is decent despite being a bit sluggish and causing some disorientation at times, but it's hardly detrimental. Visually and aurally, Tecmo got it right with FFIII, as the Project Zero team has a knack for drawing gamers into their world. Again, it's not a reinvention of the franchise, but it is certainly a quality title worthy of a play-through, especially to those who love a good scare.

Fatal Frame III is a great horror game for PS2 owners and anyone who likes a good ghost story, but fans may find it to be a little too mired in its series's formula. Like the Silent Hill and Resident Evil series, Fatal Frame's fourth installment will need a shot in the arm. In the meantime, though, Fatal Frame III is one of the best console horror games this year. It will frighten you.

Project Zero 3: The Tormented is a little gem of a game, one which proves the power and intensity of effect that some games can exert on the players. The 'ride' is certainly longer than that of a film at the cinema, too. The main game will take hours to plough through, your experience extended by a multilayered plot and the opportunity to control two of Kurosawa's buddies at different points in the game. It's only human nature to want to stress and test our senses (see theme parks for an obvious example), but if anywhere like Alton Towers is out of the question until the weather's a bit better here in Blighty, then Project Zero will do just as good a job. And it doesn't force you to pay over the odds for food and souvenirs, too. You could do far worse than 'snap' this one up and 'develop' a Project Zero experience of your very own... (and it was going so well - Ed).

If you don't care for the conventions of survival horror (slow pacing, tank-style controls, fixed camera angles, etc.), then Fatal Frame III is probably not for you. But if you can get past the somewhat archaic gameplay, The Tormented is one of the most creepy, unsettling, and psychologically twisted experiences in the entire gaming world.

In fact, the parallels between Resident Evil and Fatal Frame are uncanny. FF is where RE was just prior to RE4: a slick, well-produced franchise that pushes all the right buttons for the faithful and makes minor but significant changes with each new game to freshen up the formula somewhat. And, although Fatal Frame III will simultaneously delight and scare the bejesus out of fans of the series, Tecmo will need to take that next big step in Fatal Frame IV to keep this innovative series at the top of the survival-horror heap.

Project Zero 3 is quite possibly the highlight of the series, showing Tecmo to be masters of their craft, and deserving of a place amongst the pantheon of "traditional" survival horror games. It may be nothing revolutionary, but it's certainly a superior genre piece.

30 Stunden Spielzeit!

Fatal Frame III: The Tormented is another solid installment in a series that can always be counted on to deliver shocks and scares without the gore of Resident Evil or the peculiarity of Silent Hill. But in a world with Resident Evil 4 and Ties That Bind, its sluggish movement and less responsive controls are becoming harder to forgive with time -- especially when coupled with a heavy amount of backtracking (which The Tormented has) and long moments of build-up between screams. Even so, with a healthy amount of unlockable costumes and goodies, an absolutely stellar presentation, and an initial quest of well over 12 hours long (plus the option to play through again for extra stuff), Fatal Frame III is certainly worth a look.

As a fan of earlier games, I already know too much about this world, and the frequent jumps between areas never let the environments' desolation take root. It's all just too explained, and the greatest asset of the series (up to this point) was its mystery. Not knowing is always scarier.

Fatal Frame III: The Tormented is truly engaging, through the gameplay issues and the sometimes oddly paced storytelling--it's thoroughly dark, depressing, and dire, just as it should be. Any fan of horror games should consider this game worth checking out, and Fatal Frame fans will get the most out of it due to the overlapping stories. For the rest of you, if you're tired of getting a peaceful night's sleep, a few turns of The Tormented may just cure you of your troubles.

Project Zero III: The Tormented is quite an unusual experience at first but once you get used to it you’ll be fine, obviously players of the previous games will be at home right away and should welcome the return of old characters and linked plotlines. As I progressed through the game I got quite absorbed in the story and wanted to continue in order to solve the mysteries of the Manor of Sleep and the strange markings which appear on Reis body, hopefully you will too. A criticism can be levelled at the camera angles which sometimes make it hard to place the ghosts but sometimes the camera can provide some awesome shots and be responsible for some scares. Overall I found this game to be absorbing and genuinely frightening in parts, despite its faults its worth fans of the genre checking this out, for everyone else I’d recommend a rent first.
