As the sun sets on the Playstation 2 and its historical run at tackling videogame sales records, the FIFA series has come as close as ever to bringing down the Winning Eleven 9 vale of supremacy. It doesn’t quite bring the same exquisite blend of difficulty, authenticity, and fun, but it’s still a great game that is even slightly improved over ‘07’s stellar offering. Anyone who hasn’t played a FIFA game on the PS2 lately owes it to themselves to check this one out.

Ultimately, the real victory is on the pitch, with a flowing brand of attacking football almost reminiscent of that other football game, Pro Evolution something. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Konami can consider themselves duly flattered. The real winners are PS2 owners though, able to cock a snook at the fancy graphics of more expensive consoles while enjoying a supremely playable game of association football. Sometimes, looks aren't everything.

Despite the game's few drawbacks in game play, the overall experience, as previously mentioned, is positive. FIFA 08 has a lot of diversity of its game play and offers an addictive, easy to learn experience for soccer fanatics. So, select your favorite team, create a persona in your image (if you like), and lead them to victory.

FIFA 08 is an entertaining, upper-class sports game with tons of options, new control features, and a great pro mode. The game isn’t a must-buy for everyone, but it’s definitely worth playing.

Looks, as they say, aren't everything and FIFA 08 on the PS2 demonstrates this perfectly. Spot-on control, great atmosphere, more features than ever and balanced gameplay should send this one to the back of any soccer fan's net.

The PS2 version of FIFA 08 doesn't feel as revolutionary as the PS3 version, and in fact the two games are now very different in terms of playing style. The PS2 version, with its faster, arcade-style gameplay, is an evolutionary update to the series. It plays well, feels incredibly polished, and offers a wealth of options and game modes to play around with. We love the new Be-a-Pro cooperative mode because it adds something new to the experience and is great to play with friends. FIFA 08 may offer nothing particularly new, but this year's game is so refined and fully featured, it's the definitive entry in the series so far.

FIFA 08 is almost like a different game on the PS2 when compared to other formats. It’s fast-flowing, fun and right up there – if not better – than Konami’s celebrated Pro Evo game. Although not as visually impressive as on the PS3 or Xbox 360, it still looks nice and – without doubt – is the most playable version of FIFA this year.
