FIFA Soccer 2003 is such a tremendous effort that any gripes about features can be forgiven. This is a high watermark for the series that warrants an immediate purchase.

FIFA 2003 for the PlayStation 2 is probably the most accurate representation of professional soccer to date, which might intimidate more-casual fans of the sport. While the game does feature an arcade mode in which the speed is turned up and most of the rules aren't enforced, the same basic strategies that you would use in the simulation option still apply. In any case, if you're looking for the best simulation of professional soccer to date, then you needn't look further than FIFA 2003.

In my opinion FIFA 2003 fixed things in 2002 World Cup that weren't necessarily problems. Nonetheless FIFA 2003 is a fine soccer game and should grab everybody's attention on its own merits because it does capture even more of what makes pro soccer so appealing. That's every sports videogame's job. If you didn't fall for the World Cup edition this past summer or if you can put that game's feel and control out of your mind, then you'll find FIFA 2003 to be worth the trouble of leaning a new system.

In FIFA 2003 it's possible to play customizable competitions, leagues, etc, with up to eight players using a multi-tap, which can be a lot of fun. It's disappointing that there's no online support in this PS2 version though.

All we can say to EA Sports about this year's edition of FIFA Soccer is well done. While the right-stick control system still needs some work, and there are some minor graphical flaws (we are being picky), FIFA Soccer 2003 is definitely one of the best soccer titles to grace the PS2 to date. While it's better overall than This is Soccer 2003, TIF2003 allows more overall control over your players, unlike FIFA's "assisting" AI which can sometimes be a pain if a player isn't doing exactly what you want him to do. That aside though, we highly recommend FIFA Soccer 2003 to all fans of the sport.

Het is zeker geen Pro Evolution Soccer 2, maar deze nieuwe FIFA-editie toont wel aan dat ze bij EA eindelijk door beginnen te krijgen hoe voetbal gespeeld dient te worden.

You have to give EA Canada credit for trying to improve a series that is basically dominating the competition. The improvements in the gameplay department went a long way towards making this the most realistic footie game to ever grace a next-generation console. Once again, EA has proven that they are the "gold standard" for sports games.

... the overall shoddy control, the delay in button presses, and the ridiculous load times (including in-game load times), the game is nothing more than a second-rate sports title with great eye candy. I'm sure that FIFA Soccer 2003 will appeal to a lot of people, but passive fans (like me) should probably avoid this title. Definitely rent it before mindlessly dropping your hard-earned cash on it.
