Two giant idiots beating themselves into submission? Finally, a sport that I can endorse. My disdain for humans is such that the sight of them injuring their brains makes me giggle like a schoolgirl. Now, let’s discuss the finest boxing game I’ve played in a good while, Knockout Kings 2001. This is the complete package for boxing fans. It has it all – a deep Career mode, complex gameplay, and a great selection of dream matches featuring the all-time greats. My only small gripe is with the long loading times between rounds. Perfectly illustrates what a piece of crap Ready 2 Rumble really is.

I'm not a huge fan of the PS-X game, but EA smoothed out the playcontrol and framerate for the PS2. This version is much easier to play and far superior to its predecessors.

If you own a previous version of Knockout Kings, there isn't a whole lot new going on other than the graphics. It is very rough in places and misses a lot of the intricacies sport of boxing, but it is one of those games that keeps you coming back for more. If you like playing games where you can unlock things with codes or bonuses then Knockout Kings will make you happy. However, don't purchase it expecting to find a good boxing simulator. KO Kings 2001 is still more arcade than sim. However, at the end of the day, and despite the flaws, KO Kings 2001 is a fun game to play.

Man merkt Knockout Kings 2001 deutlich an, dass es außer Haus -von Black Ops- programmiert wurde. In vielen Punkten eine durchaus ansprechende Box-Simulation, können vor allem die durchdachte Steuerung und die gelungenen Animationen der Boxer überzeugen. Es fehlt dem Spiel jedoch einfach an Substanz, um in einem Zug mit Referenztiteln für andere Sportarten aus dem Hause EA genannt zu werden. Zwar wird man die Knockout Kings immer mal wieder für ein spannendes Zwei-Spieler-Duell herauskramen, doch auch hier schafft es das Spiel nicht, den Fun-Faktor von Ready 2 Rumble zu erreichen, das einfach überall einen Tick besser ist. Wem jedoch die Rumble-Boxer zu abgefahren sind, wird von Electronic Arts´ Box-Einstand auf der PS2 auf keinen Fall enttäuscht werden. Und mit konsequenter Weiterentwicklung hat die Auflage 2002, die sicherlich kommen wird, Chancen, sich endlich den Titel zu schnappen.

Knockout Kings is een degelijke game maar veel meer dan een opgepoetste PSX versie is het niet. Extra opties en grafische hoogstandjes ontbreken en van de laadtijden word je achterlijk.

Die Präsentation ist sehr gelungen und vermittelt ein echtes Box-Feeling. Grafisch ist das Spiel zwar keine Meisterleistung, aber die Sportler sehen absolut originalgetreu aus. Zu dem sind die Kampftechniken sehr komplex steuerbar, und man kann sich seinen eigenen Stil zulegen. Etwas nervig, sind die zwischenzeitlichen Ladezeiten. Fazit: Für Boxfanaten ist dieser Titel absolut zu empfehlen!

Denna version till PlayStation2 är i stort sett identisk med spelet till den äldre konsolen, förutom grafiken som är anpassad efter den kraftfullare maskinens prestanda. Det får samma betyg som den förra versionen, och precis som då krävs det att man gillar strategisk boxning för att få ut det mesta av titeln.

How much replay value you get from this title is equal to the effort you put into it. If you take the time to learn all of the moves that are available, and you earn championships in all of the different weight classes, this game will last a very long time. For the average person though, there's simply not enough variety in the fighters, or their fighting to hold your interest for too long. The long and frequent load times just add to the frustration of an already time consuming game. Yes I know that "real" fights last 12-15 rounds, but that's too long to fight the same guy in a videogame. I don't have any real productive solutions on how to make that problem any better, and from the lack of good boxing sims available, nobody else does either. If you enjoyed previous incarnations of the series on either the Playstation or the Nintendo64, you'll likely enjoy this game. Be warned that outside of some shiny graphics, a few new moves, and some token female fighters, there's not much new.

Knockout Kings 2001 est exactement comme ses prédécesseurs, à l'exception faite que cette fois-ci les graphismes sont largement à la hauteur. Les déplacements trop lents et la complexité des coups ne favorisent pas les combats instinctifs et si la panoplie d'enchaînements est très complète, le manque de variété des affrontements se fait assez vite ressentir. Il n'en reste pas moins que les passionnés du noble art y trouveront leur compte avec la présence de pratiquement tous les grands noms de la boxe et une bande son très travaillée. Knockout Kings 2001 n'est donc pas un bon jeu de combat mais reste un jeu de boxe intéressant.
