MDK 2: Armageddon

MDK 2 is a game that constantly entertains, and where most companies seem content to recycle the same butt-bouncing, vine-swinging, crate-pushing action we got over years ago, BioWare/Interplay pushes the envelope.

Really there's nothing left to say but that MDK 2: Armageddon is finally the 3D action game old school gamers have been looking for. It's fun, it's wild, you shoot everything and anything just like the good old days of Contra, Smash TV and Mega Man. Every old school gamer should have this in their collection, and the new-schoolers’ should give this a look too, it'll show you a time when it was fun that games were hard and it seemed like the enemies wouldn't stop coming. Basically, it's a must own.

MDK 2: Armageddon is a great action title that is certainly worth twenty hours of your time. A great story, fast-paced adventure and a good deal of challenge make up for the fact that this game could (and did) look a lot better. Still, there is enough humor and fun here to warrant a purchase.

There have been few, if any, improvements made over the original Dreamcast MDK2, and the clumsy dual analog control actually feels worse. It’s still a great game, but points off for lack of effort.

MDK2 Armageddon is a solid shooter with plenty of ingenuity and slick presentation. PS2 owners who haven't played any other version of MDK2 should be pleased with the game, and Dreamcast owners who couldn't muster the dedication to complete the game might want to see what they missed on the PS2.

Dieses Action-Adventure hat eigentlich alles was man so braucht: Eine witzige Story mit ziemlich schwarzem Humor, aufwendiges Leveldesign und knifflige Aufgaben. Durch die riesigen Welten und deren anspruchsvollen Rätseln, ist man schon einige Zeit beschäftigt und langweilig, wird einem dabei bestimmt nicht.

Since there are so many different difficulty settings, you may want to tackle the game on an easy setting, and then work your way up the ladder. There aren't multiple endings, or items to unlock, so the amount of replay you get from the game is strictly dependent on how much you want to play through for fun, not earning new things. The somewhat bland levels, and often times confusing levels dampened my experience a little, but it certainly didn't keep me from enjoying what was a very satisfying game. MDK2's humor is some of the best I have come across in a video game, and it fits in amazingly well with the gameplay. With all of the recent rehashes, and me-too games being released these days, MDK2 Armageddon is a breath of fresh air, and one that I can highly recommend to anyone waiting for the AAA titles to arrive.

Despite the problems, MDK2 is still a fun game, and those who missed it on Sega's machine will most likely enjoy it on Sony's. The three-character gameplay and spot-on humor make for an enjoyable experience – even if it is the second time around.

MDK 2 Armageddon, even with a few extras, is still just MDK 2, and if you've played it elsewhere, there's no real reason to return here. But if you love action games and you haven't given this one a try, it's worth checking out.

Au final, MDK 2 s'avère très fidèle à l'esprit MDK tel que l'avait pensé Shiny : complètement déjanté, très drôle, globalement amusant... mais un peu trop tordu. La version française, très réussie, est une raison de plus pour se procurer ce jeu sur lequel on passe de très bons moments... mais qu'on lâche un jour ou l'autre, lassé par sa difficulté et les prises de tête qu'il entraîne. Les fans du premier MDK peuvent foncer... les autres sont prévenus.
