Player: John (a.k.a. Snake)
Opponent: Ocelot
Location: on top of chasm
Only up on the third encounter with Ocelot will you actually face him in the battle. But after two times being humiliated, he's now more ready, and is handling two revolvers instead of automatic. Each one has six bullets, so that is one thing to pay attention to, when he will reload. However, he is fast and rolls from his cover pretty quickly and performs a shoot at you, so just waiting for a clear shot may turn to be too slow. In between the two, there is a long fall so you should stay on your side of the field. However, there are Ocelot's soldiers around you that may occasionally fire upon you as you''ll be gaining an upper hand in battle. So aside from constant shooting, the only clear shot you'll have of him being calm is during reloading time. There is a tree on your right where you can climb and have a clear view of his part of terrain. But you're a sitting duck there as well, so you may want to quickly climb and give it a shot during his reloading time.
Opponent: The Pain
Location: cavern
Luckily to your advantage, there is water surrounding you, and that makes a perfect cover from hornets. Since Pain will be on the upper terrain, you won't be able to approach him, so your only option is shooting from afar. You should pay attention to couple of his strikes, when he launches a bomb that looks like a hornet swarm, you can shoot it in the air, but if you miss any, jump into the water and then emerge when it becomes more calm. His most serious strike is a bullet-like hornet (you'll notice them as they leave red trace in the air) that can get nasty if they hit you, as they eat through you. Whenever one of a sort hits you, you'll have to use knife or something to cut it out. There is only one time when Pain is actually immune to your attacks, and that is when all the hornets gather around him, but otherwise, you can shoot whenever get a chance.
Opponent: The Fear
Location: forest
The fear is a fast opponent that you can barely see with a naked eye, he's quite transparent, but there's a solution to that as well. Use thermal goggles to see him quite clearly. Those goggles will help you see the traps too, as this forest has lots of them, so it may be helpful if you shoot and trigger all the traps so you can run more freely. Fear's most conniving attack is throwing poisonous arrows that may require serum to heal you after being shot by one of them. And he's too fast to try and get him by CQC, so take your most trusty machine gun from the inventory and blast him down from the trees.
Opponent: The End
Location: forest
The end will test your endurance for being quiet, plus he can blend with the forest way too good to try running at him. In the first part of the forest, on your left is a small armory where you can find a sniper rifle for yourself as well, and after that, try running around a bit to get him to start shooting and that way gives his destination away. Check out the map and you'll see red circle marking his current destination. Try finding yourself the best spot to try the sniper rifle you just acquired on him. Once shot, he'll run away to another sniping location. Now it's time to turn on your thermal goggles as this forest is quite muddy and shows footsteps way to clear. You can try crawling after his footsteps to reach his next position. If you seem like you can't see him, try being quiet and hear him, as he occasionally falls asleep so you can hear him snoring, and realise he may be right next to you.
Opponent: The Fury
Location: tunnels
This is close quarter combat that spreads through a couple of long tunnels all forming a sort of a matrix. It may be dark so you can try using night vision goggles, but since Fury is all fire, you can just try to listen to his footsteps and observing where the fire lingers. After shooting him, don't try to stay at same place, because although he is slow on foot, he has jets that enables him to fly and move from one part of the tunnel to the other in a second. Effective weapon in this battle is a shotgun as you will most probably hit him even with a bad aiming.
Opponent: The Sorrow
Location: nightmare
This is not much of a battle as is a long and slow walk through a river... similar to Styx. With no Charon to give you a ride to Hades. You will walk past the soldier you've killed thus far in the game, and all will act zombie-alike, though some will try to attack you while others will just pass you by. As they touch you, they will take your HP away a bit, but after being exposed to your tough a bit longer, they'll disappear. You can try fighting them, but it will not destroy them, just slow them down a bit. Eventually, you'll reach the end, and then you'll die. If you press "Continue" option, you'll restart this. So, what to do when a game over screen appears? Try taking up the wake up pill, and wake up from this nightmare.
Opponent: Volgin
Location: hangar
The battle is on a lowered platform inside the hangar where Shagohod is being kept. You will not get much out of CQC, and if you try shooting, Volgin will deflect your bullets with his shield and cast bolts of lightning at you. However, persistence is everything, and having a machine gun with lots of bullets may play to your advantage. Shoot at him long enough for him to deplete his power to sustain shield and then you'll start wearing off his HP. This may work during the entire battle.
Opponent: Shagohod
Location: cliff near the bridge
Part I
By this time, Shagohod is way destroyed, and what's left is a miniature shell of it, with Volgin driving it. You're on a motorcycle with EVA driving, and you must deal with this beast with a help of a rocket launcher. This is a tank you're facing, yet it doesn't have tracks but something more... scientific. Anyway, shoot at either side of its "tracks" to put it to temporary stop, and gain enough time for EVA to drive around it. Then quickly launch a rocket at the back of the Shagohod. To quickly reload, you can unequip and re-equip your rocket launcher and reloading will be instant. However, if rockets are launched at you from the Shagohod, quickly switch to machine gun and try to take them while still in the air or they'll cut both yours and EVA's HP down, just as during the chase that was before this battle.
Part II
Volgin will get out of Shagohod and absorb the power from it while standing on top of it. EVA will drive a motorcycle to try and lure him away from you to get a clear shot. You can also try to temporarily stop the Shagohod via forementioned technique, and try to shoot at the colonel from behind. However, you may use the same technique as when facing him alone, shoot directly at him and wear off his ability to sustain the shield. But watch out not to shoot while he's firing one of Shagohod's weapons because he'll get you before you manage to incapacitate his shield.
Opponent: The Boss
Location: flower field
Like when fighting Volgin, this is a timed battle, if you don't beat The Boss before time runs out, you're both dead. Due to field being full of white flowers, you may change your uniform to scientist one you got from EVA first time you met her. This will make you quite camouflaged in this field, and this is the only boss battle where camouflage plays more serious role. However, trying anything but the CQC may prove to be very time-taking and bearing less results, so try using CQC when near The Boss. She will not lose HP but stamina only. After her stamina wears off, the fight of over. After she gets up from your first strike, try approaching her and kick her again. Alas, she will probably do that to you instead and then fire at you. However, while on the ground from her first kick, the bullets won't play a role (sort of recovery-time-makes-you-temporarily-invincible effect) and you'll have enough time to get closer to her and strike her again. If you're too slow, she will run away and there's no point in chasing her, you won't make it. If she runs away, you should wait for another close encounter, but don't forget about the time, which will be mentioned every now and then to keep you afoot. |
