The Video Game Critic
In contrast to this year's field of college basketball duds, the NBA games are surprisingly strong. NBA Live 2005's fast, up-and-down style of play is reminiscent of the very first NBA Live (Genesis 1995). Its presentation won't blow you away, but the gameplay is realistic and competitive. The control scheme is well designed, although I will admit it's easy to confuse the two shoot buttons (close range and jump shot). The controls are responsive, and EA's "T-meter" foul shooting system is intuitive.

It may look too good to be true, but Live is still a bit rough around the edges. It's a great multiplayer title (online is available for both Xbox and PS2), but if you're not in the market for a pick-up game or two, ESPN's authentication of the sport remains far superior.

NBA Live 2005 doesn't bring a lot more to the game, aside from the new All-Star Weekend that is. Therefor the score has been narrowed down a bit. If you've got last year's installment, than renting Live 2005 is the message. The lack of an online option in the European version doesn't make things better. I'm very curious what EA Sports will come up with next year as the feeling that they've reached the limit is getting bigger and bigger each year.
