When the final buzzer sounds, Street get serious props for breathing a huge blast of fresh air into what had been Midway?s stinky old locker room. Street has staked its claim on the court, easily earning the title of this summer?s latest must-have PS2 game.

If you are a fan of any type of basketball games, sports games in general, or just looking for one of the top five games for the PlayStation 2, look no further. NBA Street is really that good. It combines innovation, good graphics, a good single player mode, a great multi-player mode, and a whole lot of fun.

It's very hard to give a 100 percent to a game. Had it not been for the load times, and minutely unfair AI, NBA Street would have hit the century mark. Fortunately, these minor flaws are easy to get over, and only noticeable if you're picky. NBA Street is truly a must have game for any sports fan, fanatic or leisure. I've never had as much fun playing this type of game, and NUFX , and EA Big have definitely put something out worth buzzing about.

Through its brilliant use of an SSX-styled trick system and the way that the developers have managed to make blocked shots as important and every bit as exciting as slam dunks, NBA Street has taken the arcade basketball genre to all-new heights. If you're a fan of sports, basketball or arcade styled games in general, this is a must-have title that's easily one of the best games that the PlayStation 2 has to offer. Go buy it now, I promise you, you won't regret.

NBA Street has enough unlockable items and options to make it worthwhile as a single-player game. While two-player games eventually boil down to a frustrating battle of who can shake defenders long enough to unleash a gamebreaker, the two-player mode still manages to be a lot of fun as well. Anyone looking for a fast-action basketball game that isn't afraid to tinker with Midway's stock formula will definitely find a lot to like in NBA Street.

NBA Street is the true superstar of arcade basketball. Unlike yearly updates from Midway, you can tell EA really wanted to make Street stand out as a masterpiece of blacktop brilliance. Modes, commentary, graphics, AI, and every other facet couldn't be much better. A manual instant replay feature is about the only thing I could ask for. This has become my favorite PS2 game thus far, and is The Answer for gamers looking for some creativity in their next-gen sports.

Great visuals, and excellent gameplay, NBA Street is the recipe for the best basketball game to date. NBA 2K1, NBA Live 2001, bah! None of them hold up to NBA Street. Despite it being an arcade-based title, this baby is by far the most accurate representation of the sport in terms of finesse and movement, all thanks to the amazing motion capturing. NBA Street is another game that you have to shell out 50 bucks for, first it was Twisted Metal now it's Street. This is a highly recommended purchase, as many other PS2 games such as Red Faction, Dark Cloud and Twisted Metal: Black have become. NBA Street also makes a great 2-player game, invite a friend over for a game 21 with teams of 3. Street's got it all!

EA Sports does it again with NBA Street. SSX players will be at home with Street, and it’s addictive enough to get even non-basketball fans into the game. While it’s possible that the replay is a little bit shallow after unlocking everything, you will have to spend a long time unlocking all the secrets, so it will be awhile before it gets boring. Sure, it isn’t perfect, but for basketball on PS2, it’s the best you can get, simulation or not. Street manages to revitalize the stale arcade basketball genre, and hopefully opens the door for more inspired efforts.

Regardless of the limited options, I still rate NBA Street highly because it sets new standards and changes my perception of what a basketball videogame can and should be. NBA Street doesnt capture every aspect of the sport perfectly and it isnt the end all to the genre. However, after playing NBA Street, I dont think Ill ever be able to look at any basketball videogame the same. The level of player-controlled action and creativity that NBA Street has captured from the game of basketball is momentous. Its contribution in representing the street game and 1-on-1 moves made a strong impression on me.

Unfortunately, one can't say anything similar for this title overall. Though an exceedingly fun and rewarding game, NBA Street isn't very original or particularly noteworthy. It's almost as if Electronic Arts' pride and joy has one high-top sneaker in the door leading to greatness, with the other mired in the goop that was an outsider's attempt at capturing the spirit of the inner city. And while you'll enjoy spending time with this wannabe big baller, it's like KRS One broke things down: dope or not, there's something to be said for keepin' it real.

NBA Street is a hugely fun b-ball game that hoop fans can't do without. It's got tons of character and solid gameplay. While the depth of sims like the NBA Live series is missing, NBA Street manages to capture the excitement and energy of the street ball most of us are far more familiar with. A good buy.

NBA Street has multiple play modes, including a tutorial session by Joe "The Show," a City Circuit mode allowing you to unlock hidden players and customize your team with NBA players and street legends, and Hold the Court, which focuses on obtaining trick points to unlock items such as apparel that can be used in the Create Player mode. Individual profiles as well as statistics, such as winning percentage, points scored, and overall trick points, can be saved to memory card.

NBA Street makes a great multiplayer as well as single player game, although unfortunately EA missed a great opportunity and did not include Multi Tap support (so you can only play with a maximum of 2 players). This fault aside the game is one of the most enjoyable basketball games in the history of computerised basketball, a title that beats Midway's previous efforts hands down. Basketball enthusiasts should enjoy NBA Street immensely but some fans may prefer the simulation feel of EA's NBA Live series rather than this arcade-based variant. Either way EA have made sure that basketball aficionados are well catered for, and have further solidified their position as the best sports game developer for the PS2.

My biggest beef is how the computer insists on keeping the contests artificially close. A tournament mode lets you advance through the ranks, earning new players and opening new courts. NBA Street rates very high on the fun meter, but where's the four-player mode?
