Trivia

Ring of Red takes place in an alternate post-World War II scenario, in which Japan has not surrendered to the Allied Forces, which results in the country's division into two states: South Japan and North Japan. South Japan is controlled by the West (including ex-Nazis), whereas North Japan is controlled by Russia. This scenario was apparently thought to be too offensive for a US or European release so that the story was bowdlerized considerably (to the point of not making any sense). For example, the connections of South Japan (the player's side) to the (ex-)Nazis that were explained in the Japanese version, are not mentioned at all, just as there are no references to the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima (that nevertheless also took place in Ring of Red's alternate history).
