Imperium Gier

Worth Playing
Could Rogue Galaxy be the Game of the Year? Given that it's early in a year that is bound to be dominated by plenty of powerful performances by the next-gen consoles, it's highly unlikely. However, the game could easily ensnare an even more illustrious title with ease, as it's easily one of the best RPGs available for the PlayStation 2, and certainly deserving of "classic" status from any console. This one's a keeper, folks — a game that ranks right up there with games such as Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star IV, and many of the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest titles. It has its flaws, but many of the flaws — particularly the stilted A.I. and the predictable plot — are more like pitfalls of the Japanese RPG genre than problems inherent in the game itself. If you're an RPG fan, or if you loved Dark Cloud 2, don't pass up Rogue Galaxy. It may not be the perfect game, but it's easily one of the best Japanese-made RPGs you can find.

If you love RPG’s this is a no brainer – even if you’ve moved on to next-gen systems there is still a fine game to be found in Rogue Galaxy. While the graphics will be a step back from next-gen systems the gameplay is just as good, if not better, then almost every single next-gen title – and with a much lower price. One to add to your shopping cart – or even your Christmas list! Superb.

"Rogue Galaxy" não é original, mas mescla quase tudo que os RPGs japoneses produziram de melhor. Traz batalhas empolgantes e desafiadoras, e aventura para dar e vender. Um game tão grande assim poderia cair na armadilha do cansaço, mas a produtora recompensa o jogador constantemente, seja com novos itens ou com a evolução dos personagens. Sorte da Sony ter uma linha de games tão bom na reta final do PlayStation 2, enquanto o seu sucessor não decola.

Rogue Galaxy is not a perfect game. The camera can get annoying at times, the combat system gets a tad repetitive, and the systems (Factory and Weapon synthesis) require more trial and error than they really should. Once you get past those minor flaws you'll find a gem of an RPG that is one of the best in its class. The innovative gameplay, the massive galaxy, the graphics, and the audio are some of the most impressive that you'll find on the PlayStation 3. This is a must have for RPG fans and anybody looking for a powerful science fiction tale needn't look further.

ou could call this a role-playing game, and you certainly wouldn’t be wrong, but to me Rogue Galaxy is more than just an RPG in a genre already filled with slaves to convention. No, this game is more accurately and flatteringly described as a Level 5 game. Not only is Rogue Galaxy imbued with the developer’s particular approach to the genre as already seen in its Dark Cloud series, but the experience and evolution afforded by those titles is evident in this excellently crafted title. In this way, Level 5 is on a Final Fantasy-like path, where there isn’t strict continuity from game to game, but you buy them because you trust the developer implicitly.

Yet Another Review Site (YARS)
The only real problem with this game is that you don't actually care what happens to the characters you are controlling, which is one of the reasons FFVII is still considered one of the greatest games of all time, you actually cared about Cloud and his mates. We do not get to find out enough back-story about the protagonists in this story. In this way it like a Hollywood Summer Blockbuster- High on action, looks stunning, but lacking any substance when it comes to the characters & Plot, which is a real shame as the rest of the game is up there with some of Square Enix`s best, awesome, just short of a 10/10 score.

Rogue Galaxy is an RPG made for traditional fans of the genre. With a solid story, vivid and likeable characters, a vast, interesting world, and fun gameplay, Rogue Galaxy is simply a must-have for RPG fans.

Discussing the intricacies or the story line any more would be doing any interested gamer an injustice. Rogue Galaxy was designed to appeal to as many of them as possible, whether through its coverage of an enthralling planet-hopping voyage, or the many extra things it has to offer along the way. It's an admirable and enjoyable swan song of the action RPG for a system on its way out, and could very well be the best one the PlayStation 2 has ever had – Kingdom Hearts be damned.

Rogue Galaxy puts you in charge of initially one, but eventually eight, oddballs, grifters, and scoundrels in a futuristic space setting, one envisioned with an eye for drama and splashy effects, not a cold eye on the "science" of "science fiction." It is, as developer Level-5's president put it, a "blockbuster sci-fi game." Like a Hollywood blockbuster, Rogue Galaxy looks great and is technically stunning. It's packed utterly full of the standbys of the genre - combat, exploration, personalization, and sub-games that are too huge to be called "mini-games" - which are all executed well, but like a Hollywood blockbuster, the characters themselves seem entirely secondary to matter at hand. Mostly, you'll be concerned about that ship of scoundrels only because they represent dozens of hours of hard work leveling them.

Still, at the end of the day, the sum of Rogue Galaxy's parts add up to a great RPG game that delivers superb action with real-time battle mechanics (Kingdom Hearts fans will eat this up). While the audio is certainly average in many respects, everything else about the game is first-rate. This is a worthy successor for gamers finished with Final Fantasy XII and looking for a new adventure to embark on. It's seamless gameplay featuring no loading times, and vibrant visuals will only make the experience that much more enjoyable. You can expect to spend anywhere between 40-100 hours, depending on if you play through just the story or do a few side-quests. Rogue Galaxy comes highly recommended to both RPG and Action-RPG enthusiasts.

Rogue Galaxy definitely brings the noise to longtime RPG fans. Though its storyline isn't on the same level as other great PS2 games in the genre, its mixture of strong combat mechanics, addictive sidequests, and absolutely stunning visual style more than makes up for what it doesn't do. Congrats to Level-5 for a great follow-up to Dragon Quest VIII and a great send-off for the PlayStation 2.

All in all, Rogue Galaxy is an extremely well made and well thought out romp packed with loads of laughs and fun things to do.

Fortunately, the large variety of Rogue Galaxy's many areas and planets ensures the action doesn't slow for long, even if the plot ends up rather average. Between exploration, battle, item synthesis, item creation, the Pokemon-esque Insectron portions and a predilection towards collecting every random bit of junk strewn about the galaxy, Rogue Galaxy always has something to dangle in front of players bored with one particular play style. Toss in its technical achievements, such as the large worlds appearing with nary a loading screen, and Rogue Galaxy clearly marks one of the most polished and packed role-playing adventures on the PlayStation 2.

Tekemistä Rogue Galaxyyn on ympätty vähintäänkin kotitarpeiksi asti. Rogue Galaxy on kaikin puolin melko kertakäyttöinen peli.

The visuals in the game are some of the best seen in a PS2 title, with an anime-style that can’t fail to impress. And an excellent mixture of superb combat mechanics, compelling sidequests and hours of exploration make this a serious contender for PlayStation 2 Game of the Year.

With an awful plot, some shoddy controls and poor dialogue working against it, you might expect that Rogue Galaxy would receive a poor overall score from me... and you'd be right if it weren't for everything else. The gameplay, in particular, was a saving grace but the music and graphics also pulled this game from the depths of despair into something fun. If you can, I recommend picking up this game since you won't be able to do everything during a short rental period. Overall, Rogue Galaxy gets an 80% and a chastisement to Level 5 to do a better job with the story next time. Now go and play.

Armchair Empire, The
If there is one thing that Level 5 has gotten a firm grip on, it’s creating cel-shaded RPGs. They cut their teeth on Dark Cloud 2, added polish with Dragon Quest VIII, and now they have Rogue Galaxy to add to the hit parade. While the game’s story may be similar to a number of other entries in the genre, Rogue Galaxy more than makes up for this with charm, and an array of engaging gameplay features.

Just when you thought the good-old PlayStation 2 had nothing left to offer but a bunch of sequels, along comes Rogue Galaxy, an original role-playing game from the makers of Dragon Quest VIII and Dark Cloud 2. Like those games, Rogue Galaxy features a beautiful cartoonish art style as well as lots of imaginative characters to meet and places to visit. Its frequent battles are much more action oriented than the traditionally slower, turn-based combat that Japanese RPGs are known for. Rogue Galaxy is also quite a big game, featuring plenty of optional areas to explore and minigames to engage in. Yet in spite of all this, the basic flow of the game can get monotonous, making a few too many parts of Rogue Galaxy feel more like a grind that weighs down on the otherwise rousing, upbeat adventure. Fortunately, it's easy enough to look past these parts.

Some sources claim that Level 5 is the New Square-Enix. I don't think it will take such a rush, but it's no secret that some very talented people are working there. But still, no Square-Enix competitor yet. Rogue Galaxy misses a face of his own to be a real Final Fantasy killer.

Game Revolution
So, the plot is a little dry and chewy, but the surrounding game is juicy and sweet. With a fairly lengthy, if substandard, main storyline crammed with lots of action and neat extra tidbits, Rogue Galaxy is a taste of the holidays, with none of the hassle.

Eurogamer.net (UK)
That the game tries its hand so many ideas that Final Fantasy XII does better (the licence board, the bounty hunting, the political wrangling, the real-time battle mechanics) is unfortunate - after all, the games were both developed over the same period of time in Japan. But that is the risk any multi-year development project undertakes and, ultimately, the one game systematically bests the other in each area. That said, the games are not directly comparable in many other ways and, even where they are, this is undeniably still a good, enjoyable and very pretty game. Nevertheless, at this time, from this developer, Eurogamer won't be alone in mourning the fact it's not nearer a perfect, staggering and beautiful one instead.

Rogue Galaxy does many things right, and changes up the tired fantasy settings of the genre, but is still held back somewhat by convention. But if you're after a solid RPG, Rogue Galaxy will fit the bill nicely.

AceGamez
Inconsistent both in its game world and its gameplay, Rogue Galaxy is a title with much potential that doesn't quite realise it fully. Crammed with features, it's a game that Eastern audiences presumably love but for us Westerners it's a little more hit and miss. There's a saying about some things being more than the sum of their parts. In Rogue Galaxy's case, whether that's true or not all depends on which side of the fence you are sitting.

Gameplanet
An interesting space pirate adventure, which does include a ship fully equipped with sails, a control room and a bar on the deck. It not a great game, but not one to write off either if you are a keen RPG fan or wish to explore the vast planets to uncover more than just the mystery of the galaxy.

G4 TV: X-Play
Rogue Galaxy is a flawed but enjoyable game that's a blend of old-school RPG elements and modern sensibilities. The action is unique, the world and characters are well crafted, and the game is generally well made. That said, the action does get a bit repetitive, the story is generic, the dungeons are incredibly dull, and the upgrade system is kind of weird. The last year has been fantastic for PlayStation 2 RPG fans and Rogue Galaxy is another that's well worth considering despite its flaws. While this game will likely make RPG fans happy (to various extents), it probably doesn't have enough juice to grab casual players or those new to the genre.

HonestGamers
"All style, no substance" could be said to be the long and the short of Rogue Galaxy, but it's more than that. If AP-recovery items were not easy to come by and if the dialogue was not written in a way in which you could see the plot twist from hours away or where it derived from so clearly, the game would have been a hack-'n-slash action RPG for the ages. Unfortunately, gameplay and story matter. For all its ambitions, Rogue Galaxy neither sustains enough interest nor gathers enough courage to break away from being just a great-looking, great-sounding shell of the epic it wants to be.
50
Kikizo Games
It had the potential and it drew a fair bit of attention on its looks alone, but Rogue Galaxy fails to perform for many disappointing reasons. It's shallow and it takes too long to get going being the main culprits causing the downfall. It's a real shame, because I really wanted the game to succeed - I wanted to see something new, something different. But it isn't, and it fails.
