Un título menor aunque entretenido, sin demasiadas pretensiones, que hace las veces de autohomenaje de una de las compañías japonesas más importantes de la historia de los videojuegos... realizado por un estudio occidental externo como Sumo Digital. Tan contradictorio como la propia Sega.

Wer den Tennissport nicht immer nur von seiner bierernsten Seite sehen will, sollte unbedingt mal einen Blick auf 'Sega Superstars Tennis' werfen. Dieses ebenso witzig inszenierte wie kurzweilige Spiel zieht schon alleine aufgrund der detailverliebten Grafik so manchen Sportmuffel in seinen Bann. Leider fehlt es letztendlich dann doch an Tiefgang und einige kleine Macken verhindern den Sprung bis ganz oben in die Wertungsregionen. Sollte man sich dennoch mal angeschaut und vor allem angespielt haben – die Chance ist groß, dass man den Controller nicht mehr so schnell weglegt.

This is one of those games that everyone is going to get something different out of, and provided you're not expecting anything like a serious tennis sim then I think most gamers will be pleasantly surprised overall. Despite a couple of dodgy missions and a couple of areas where the IP isn't exploited to its full potential, there's some lovely gaming stuff in here whether you're a Sega obsessive or not.

With some enjoyable mini games that give you the feel of each classic Sega franchise, Sega Superstars Tennis is a good pickup for old school Sega fans but there is only a very basic tennis game contained therein.

With its extremely attractive environments and selection of great characters, Sega Superstars Tennis is definitely a fun time for those looking for an eccentric back-and-forth tennis game. While the Wii may offer the definitive Sega Superstars Tennis experience, it definitely does not disappoint.

If you're looking to play traditional tennis, then you'll want to stick with Top Spin or Virtua Tennis. But if you want a lighthearted tennis game, enjoy minigames, and have a special place in your heart for the glory days of Sega, then you'll find a lot to like in Sega Superstars Tennis.

With the traditional singles, doubles and tournament match types (the latter two supporting up to four players with a multitap) to keep you entertained, not to mention the barrel of laughs that is the Planet Superstars mode, you're without question getting a lot of game for your money with SEGA Superstars Tennis. Not only that, but the ability to play the aforementioned challenges with another player, competing for high scores, is a novel touch. Should you wish to take the game online however, you'd best opt for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 versions, since online play has sadly been omitted from both the Wii and PS2. Minor faults aside, SEGA's latest plays a mean, but above all, jovial game of tennis. If you're looking for something to entertain the kids this Easter, wish to take a walk down Nostalgia Lane, or just want something decidedly refreshing to settle down to, you could do far worse than SEGA Superstars Tennis.

Die Bewertung von SEGA Superstars Tennis fällt mir wahrlich nicht leicht. Auf der einen Seite steigern die einfache Spielbarkeit, die überaus charmanten Charaktere und die stimmig inszenierten Partien merklich den Spielspass. Auf der anderen Seite trüben das monotone Gameplay, die langweiligen Minispiele und die begrenzte Spieldauer das positive Bild. Vergleichbar ist SEGA Superstars Tennis durchaus mit dem kürzlich erschienenen FIFA Street 3, welches ungefähr dieselben Eigenschaften aufwies und von uns mit einer Kaufempfehlung für jene bedacht wurde, die sich für kurzweiliges Hinterhof-Gekicke interessieren. Analog mein Rat für das neueste Werk von Sumo Digital: SEGA- und Arcade-Tennis-Fans sollten sich den Titel sicherlich anschauen und werden auch ein längeres Wochenende damit Spass haben. Der Rest setzt sich lieber mit der ernsteren Alternative Virtua Tennis 3 auseinander.

In theory, there's nothing wrong with the idea of a whimsical tennis game featuring classic SEGA characters. In practice, it's a bit of a yawn that ends up feeling like a barely good enough cash-in. The environments and characters are largely well-done, but the control scheme and dull mini-games drag SEGA Superstars Tennis down.

Keine verbissenen Grundlinienduelle, kein langweiliges Serve-and-Volley. Die Sega-Helden hauen sich die Filzbälle gegenseitig um die Ohren wie Geschosse und greifen immer wieder tief in die Trickkiste. Das Ganze ist eher spektakulär als realistisch und wäre wegen der variantenarmen Steuerung auch schnell langweilig, gäbe es nicht die Turniere mit den einfallsreichen Aufgaben. So kommen vor allem Solospieler, die für jeden Erfolg mit Extras belohnt werden, auf ihre Kosten. Der Rest ist „befriedigend“.

SEGA Superstars Tennis est fun à jouer, visuellement accrocheur et particulièrement sympa à plusieurs. Il n'a parallèlement rien de plus qu'un jeu de tennis arcade de base et souffre de quelques limites tactiques qui poussent le joueur à répéter sans arrêt les mêmes coups. Pourtant, il s'impose comme un assez bon titre sur le support, que l'on soit fan de Sega ou pas. Il manque toutefois un multijoueur en ligne sur PS2...
