All in all the list of songs tells the tale. If you like what you see, Singstar Abba is worth your money. If not, consider the other Singstar options, which include Singstar 90s, SingStar Legends, SingStar Country, Singstar Rocks, Singstar Amped (more rock), Singstar 80s, SingStar Pop Vol. 2, and others. If you're in Europe, you've got a plethora of other Singstar choices that us Americans haven't seen. Also, for PlayStation 3 owners, the SingStore offers quite a bit of downloadable content, so you can also compile a soundtrack of your own.
SingStar Abba is filled with Abba's finest songs. It's disappointing that PS2 owners get short changed in the track list though - inexcusable in fact.
The graphical quality, as mentioned, is solid, and so is the sound. Two younger girls, one 14 and the other 12, who had seen the feature film Mama Mia, where given the opportunity to play the game on both the PS3 and PS2 platforms. They were both of the opinion that the PS3 was better because it offered more songs, but neither was that interested in an ABBA-only karaoke night. And that may be the telling point of this title. The selection and target group is a bit too finite. With other SingStar song lists, you might find a couple of songs that really appealed to you. If you are not a fan of ABBA chances are very good this expansion will not appeal at all.
SingStar ABBA as a retail release makes sense on the PS2. On the PS3 however, it offers absolutely nothing that couldn't have been provided by simply making it a downloadable offering. On either platform, if you aren't a hardcore ABBA fan, then skip this and keep dreaming of the day when we'll get that full themed Boyz II Men download pack or something.
Clearly, I'm not a member of the ABBA fan club, but you shouldn't dismiss my criticism based on that. I love SingStar but feel these artist-specific titles are missteps. There's not enough content for the price; the scope is super-limited; and even if you love ABBA, you'll need ABBA-obsessed friends to have a decent party with this title.
