If you're an action fanatic and are looking for a deep, fun, and action-packed game to buy on Launch Day, then don't hesitate to pick up TimeSplitters. It's a refreshing shooter that keeps its feet on the ground, its eyes on the target, and its heart in the options where it belongs.

While a story would have been nice, TimeSplitters is a technological wonder that offers infinite play with its multiplayer options and gameplay sculpted by the gods themselves. A must for FPS junkies.
If you’re a fan of FPS games, Timesplitters is a must have title for the PS2. In fact, if you’re not an FPS player, you’ll still want to try out this title. Renting is fine to begin with, but to really get into the deeper parts of this game you’ll want to have it handy, especially when those moments of level-designing inspiration hit. It has a load of replayability built into it, and is a great showcase title for the PS2.

Information on TimeSplitters has been circulating through the office for quite a while and I never really paid much attention to it. I was thinking it would be some boring first-person shooter. How wrong I am. This game is incredibly fun. The Story mode is excellent, with enormous environments and ultra-intelligent enemies. Speaking of the environments, I think it’s great that there are multiple paths to the same objective. There seems to be so much to explore. I must say, the weakness of the Story mode is the rather simplistic objectives, but the game more than makes up for that with its speedy engine, beautiful graphics, and incredible challenge. The designers at Free Radical know their stuff. The design of TimeSplitters is exceptional and there is just a ton of modes. Definitely check this game out.
At the moment, it's the best action game available on the PlayStation 2, and although occasionally quite cheesy and certainly not a patch on the likes of Half-Life in terms of storyline and whatnot, it's a damned fine romp. Well worth your time.
The games plethora of options leads us to one great thing, a plethora of bonuses! The more you progress in the story, Arcade and challenge modes, the more options you get in these areas. It is pleasing, as well, that with all these extras you don't ever get a sense that they will be impossible to get through. Finally, it's refreshing that because of the open nature of the story, and you're progress through the game, you won't find things get repetitive for a long time. All in all, TimeSplitters 2 represents good, honest, monkey killing, zombie stomping, high noon shootin', alien-blasting, soldier-sniping fun. If you're after a deep game to immerse yourself in, leave now, but if you're after something fun, yet challenging, but ultimately a very sociable game you have probably found your calling.
Though it has some issues, the complete lack of anti-aliasing being the worst, TimeSplitters offers some interesting single player action. You will also find some of the best multiplayer action around, with bucket loads of options and features. The game is slicker than snot on a cold doorknob when you get a few friends together for some serious fragging. If you liked GoldenEye and Perfect Dark, you need this game.
TimeSplitters is a simple idea, really. Just like when they created the masterful Goldeneye, the former Rare team members have created an arcade-style first-person shooter that spotlights pure blasting over complexity, and fast-action and high frame rates over too much detail in TimeSplitters. It's often cheap, popcorn gaming, but it's just so damn fun.
TimeSplitters is the PlayStation 2 launch game that makes the Multitap a real must-have. The level design is quite good, and the sheer number of configurable options is staggering. Add to that the highly useful map editor, and the lack of meaningful single-player options is all but forgotten. Fans of the N64 duo of GoldenEye and Perfect Dark should definitely give this one a try.
There are quite a few great games already available for the PlayStation 2, but Eidos Interactive and Free Radical have brought to the table what can easily be considered the best multiplayer title for the machine, and one of the best first person shooters released for a console so far. Fingers are crossed that Free Radical will have the chance to work on a sequel, and improve upon a few of the lagging aspects of the game.
All in all, I wouldn't say I'm disappointed with TimeSplitters, the only problem with the game is that its camera movement is too fast for the eye to keep up with. My grand choice would have to be Unreal Tournament, the visuals may not be as pretty but they hold their own, but the lighting fast gameplay is what gets me into the action and the audio is what gets me addicted. UT is also four-player compatible and can be played with a keyboard and mouse. TimeSplitters is an excellent first try for Free Radical Design, the gameplay is good fun after you play it for a numerous amount of times, and the visuals are currently the best of the pack, TS is by no means a bad or decent game, in fact it is very good, but the camera really hurts the game. Get both if you want, but get Unreal if you can only get one.
All in all, TimeSplitters offers a great arcade experience with almost no learning curve. The action is fast, fun, and runs silky-smooth. However, a better variety of mission objectives would have made the game better. TimeSplitters has its fair share of problems, but its strengths are in the areas that matter most, making it a simple, yet fun, arcade experience for one player or several.
All Game Guide
TimeSplitters is a scorching first-person shooter with tons of levels, awesome visuals, lots of weapons and a plethora of options. While the Story mode could have been a bit more innovative, those craving an action-packed experience with the PlayStation 2's launch should look no further.
TimeSplitters could use a trip in the ol' Delorean just to realize what the future of console first-person shooters should be. On this little journey, it could find out that the single player adventures are becoming deeper and more involved. The future of gaming will have enthralling and captivating environments. Everything will be finessed and optimized, resulting in a better all-around experience. Heed the visions of the future, Eidos, because TimeSplitters is just more of the same old formula in a candy shell. Take away the coatings and purportedly new features, and the game finds its way back to its roots - in the past.
