Board game conversions to consoles are not known for their outstanding quality or innovation. When rating this type of game, one should first consider if there is any real advantage to playing the game on a console as opposed to digging the original out of the closet. Trivial Pursuit Unhinged manages to make enough positive additions to the classic board game to warrant the attention of trivia buffs everywhere. The special features include celebrity hosts, multimedia questions, and some new modes of game play. Most importantly, Unhinged includes online play. This isn't the best looking game around, but fans of the genre will be satisfied with what it has to offer.
Does Trivial Pursuit Unhinged improve upon the actual Trivial Pursuit experience? The answer is a resounding "No." One of the basic jobs of a video game is to enable you to viscerally experience something that you couldn't or wouldn't be able to on your own. Similarly, if it's a more common activity, like football, a video game should allow you to play it at a much higher level than you might otherwise be capable of doing so on your own.
Trivial Pursuit has been around for twenty years now, so I guess it's here for good. As a trivia buff, that makes me happy. Trivial Pursuit's strength has always been the amount of questions in each set. However, Trivial Pursuit Unhinged ignores this and instead opts to focus on some peripheral features, and in doing so takes away the heart of the game. There're just not enough questions to give the game lasting playability.

The latest in a line of TV and board games developed for the console market, Trivial Pursuit: Unhinged dusts off a classic diversion and attempts to add a coat of digital polish. Bells and whistles such as celebrity "hosts," and dirty tricks like wagering on opponents' answers are incorporated to jazz up the tabletop favorite. Such changes were probably made for the benefit of today's youth, but unfortunately, the old-school original actually feels like a blast when compared with this misbegotten offspring's dull play.
