If you've made it this far you know that Twisted Metal: Black is an outstanding game. It more than makes up for enduring the pain that 989 caused fans of the series. At this point in time, I can't think of any way that this game could have been made any better than it is right now. The entire package, from the box, instructions, menus, and even the credits are nothing but the highest quality. Any problems I had with the original games have been eradicated, this game is not only a TM fans dream come true, but any videogame player's. Even if you have only a passing interest in the game, go rent it and let it take you on its wild ride.

As the company logos fade and the menu screen blurs into view, you begin to sense the art direction in Twisted Metal: Black. It’s dark. Every character has a twisted tale of hatred, betrayal, and bloodlust. Every level throughout the entire game is eerily set with music that keeps the mood dismal. Twisted Metal: Black is evil through and through, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Twisted Metal: Black is a terrific game in every respect. The game looks, sounds, and, most importantly, plays better than any car combat game before it. The cinema sequences that explain the storylines of each character as you advance through the game are so well written and look so good that they actually make you want to go back and complete the game with each character. Add in a fantastic two-to-four-player multiplayer mode, and Twisted Metal: Black is the only game you'll need for the PlayStation 2 for a long time to come.

Overall, Twisted Metal:Black is the best car combat game to have ever seen the daylight and I’m not joking about this.

Twisted Metal Black is one of the most entertaining games I currently own. With a few strategies gleaned from the Internet, I’ve managed to beat the game with two different characters, and I still don’t feel the need to put the game down. It isn’t every day I manage to find a game with this much replayability, and I think that speaks a lot for the effort and eye to detail that Incog, Inc. put into this game. Excellent graphics, audio, and gameplay all balance to create a truly rewarding game. If anything, the only complaint I could possibly raise is that, as a car combat game, there isn’t a lot of story material, even though Twisted Metal Black is certainly packed with more than most. Still, that’s a small sacrifice for a game of this quality, and I’m happy to give this a 93 rating.

Twisted Metal: Black is an excellent addition to any PS2 library. It looks outstanding, plays great and the level design is top-notch with an incredible amount of interactivity. This is the Hunter S. Thompson of car carnage, a hardcore title teeming with brilliance, flair and just enough attitude. And it works great with a few drinks.

Twisted Metal: Black is a fantastic game, worthy of its early predecessors. The stories of the individual characters are detailed enough to keep gamers interested, if the fun of driving around blowing things up wasn't enough. A lot of hard work and loving detail went into creating this game, and it shows in every aspect.

Although it resides as the king of car combat games, it just didn't make the leap that SSX did for snowboarding or GT3 did for the series. TMB is a blast to play and the best in it's genre. You won't regret buying Twisted Metal Black. Only those with weak stomachs need to stay away.

Welcome back to the Twisted temple, o ye faithful! After a long, discouraging drought in the genre, Twisted Metal: Black is the game that will make you believe in automotive mayhem once more. Stunning visuals, blistering speed, interactive environments, and explosive gameplay combine to give car combat junkies their fix. If there's one drawback, it's that the AI is a little too smart, but even if the game doesn't always play fair, it's worth rising to the challenge

Gaming Target
Incog Inc has redeemed the Twisted Metal series with Twisted Metal Black, saving it from the downward spiral of the previous 2 TM games. While the overly-insane difficulty drops the score down a notch because it may frustrate some gamers, most will love the incredible challenge. Even if there is some question to the depth, car combat fans will be more than pleased with TMB, and will keep them playing for some time, if only to acquire all the endings and secrets. Twisted Metal Black goes a long way to add some value to Sony’s first-party lineup.

Twisted Metal: Black is a decent one trick pony that had very little surprises and I grew tired of the repetitious gameplay after prolonged play. From stage to stage, outside of the differences in locale, choices of character, and the two boss battles, theres very little variety. Youre always battling the same group of misfits (despite having killed them in the previous stage), there are no mission objectives of any sort, and the power-ups and weapons do not change. The weapons that are available on the first stage are the same ones used throughout the entire game. Human challengers do little to relieve the monotony.

If you're after an in depth, mission based, single player experience from TM:B, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a hugely fun multiplayer car-combat game, with the emphasis on fun, then this baby is for you! Great graphics, plenty of modes, loads of cars, weapons and levels to choose from. Grab a few beers (or cans of Coke for those of you under 18!), get some mates around, and you'll have a blast with this game.

Who in the hell tested this game?? Nobody apparently, and that's a shame. Whenever I play Twisted Metal Black, all I can think of is how great this game should have been. It incorporates some cool new features, looks terrific, and has style to burn. Trouble is, you have to play the damn thing.
