Silmeria is a wonderfully fresh experience, even though it essentially just builds on many ideas first laid out in its predecessor some years ago. The potent mixture of action with the high-level statistical balancing will quickly seduce the right-minded player. The developers manage to draw elements from many other genres and series without the game ever feeling like a patchwork or mere pastiche. Indeed, as JRPGs go this is comfortably the most inventive yet seen on PS2 - both in its gameplay theory and the physical outworking of its exquisite environments. Anyone with even a passing interest in the evolution of Japanese role-play will find much to think upon after the glow of in-game satisfaction has dissipated when the pad is finally put down.

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is a beautiful game with a rich battle system to back it up. Some of the additions and subtractions may be a little hard to swallow (especially for fans of the original), that does not mean this game is any less excellent. It holds up well to the original and a great addition to the series.

Szczerze polecam!

If only every game’s most glaring problem could be that there are too many characters to choose from. Usually at the 20 hour mark I’m checking FAQs to see when the RPG is ending. With Valkyrie Profile 2, I savored almost every moment. I took things slow and was finished the game in about 45 hours. There is even a bonus dungeon once the game is completed. It’s because of games like this that backwards compatibility on new consoles is essential for ensuring that excellent games like this are never forgotten and enshrined in Valhalla.

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is a game that will keep you busy for a couple of dozen hours. It's something different - and pleasant - so play a side-scrolling RPG. The story does its job more than adequate and the new combat system is cool without getting boring. The graphics are amazing and so is the music. The voice-acting could have been left out for me, but if you're an RPG fan and want to take out your PS2 once again then you really should buy this one!

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is resigned to the same fate that has befallen Chrono Cross on message boards across the internet. Silmeria takes bits of the original Valkyrie Profile, like the action-oriented battle system and recruitment of Einherjar, and fuses it with a much more accessible linear focus. Valkyrie Profile 2 is an excellent game in its own regard, with a visceral battle system and amazing graphics; what it is not, however, is a spiritual successor to the original title, but a new stand-alone title that appeals to everyone.
PSX Extreme (Nov 25, 2006)
Overall, Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is one fine RPG that is nothing like you've ever played before. There is a giant amount to get used to, but if you take to the style and the atmosphere, you just might lose yourself in role-playing bliss for many, many hours. There are some issues here and there, and there's an insane amount of content, but the game shines forth as one of the premier RPGs of last generation. Just remember- this is specifically for the true RPG fan, one who's willing to embrace every ounce of that intricate combat system. Anybody else will likely find this game a tiresome struggle...this is both good and bad, by the way.

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is an excellent RPG and a worthy alternative to Square Enix's other premiere franchise. While the game's sometimes unbalanced difficulty and epic length can give cause to frustration, the exceptional combat and skill systems both make up these shortcomings in full. If you play one RPG all year, you should probably play Final Fantasy XII, but once that's over give Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria a look, you won't be disappointed.

Although the central story of VP2 isn’t dramatic or compelling enough to keep you wanting more of it, the game’s gorgeous graphics, sumptuous soundtrack, delightful voice acting and intricate combat system are guaranteed to be more than enough to hold your interest and to keep you playing for the 80+ hours of the game. VP2 is certainly challenging enough for any RPG fan; indeed, it could be said it’s not for the faint hearted as many hours need to spent level grinding so your characters are strong enough to face the tough Boss fights, and if you’re going on to enter the extremely challenging optional Seraphic Gate it’s mandatory. Still, if you’re wanting an RPG that’s different from the ordinary and will give you a challenge, then Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is ideal.

This is a real gamer's game, but the excellent graphics and the action-packed battles should draw anyone in. And once you're hooked, you'll find yourself forced to dig deeper. That's how they get you. If you pick up Valkyrie Profile 2, you may discover you like RPGs more than you ever expected.
GameSpy (Sep 26, 2006)
If you enjoy console role-playing games for the gameplay, not the story, you and Silmeria may get along just fine. It's either that or she'll chew you up and spit you out. For genre fans who consider themselves hard of core, introducing yourself will probably be worth the risk.
GameSpot (Sep 29, 2006)
Valkyrie Profile 2 is different from the original, so those who loved the first game may have mixed feelings about this sequel. At the same time, even hardcore fans of Japanese RPGs, for whom this game seems intended, will likely find some aspects of the experience to be a bit too much. But the journey is still a rewarding one overall, requiring a fair amount of patience but delivering plenty of instant gratification along the way, thanks to a great combat system and action-packed dungeon levels. If you're looking for more from your next RPG than just another save-the-world storyline and really want to sink your teeth into some complex gameplay, this one's for you.

Game Revolution (Oct 01, 2006)
Valkyrie Profile is turning out to be a decent franchise, although this iteration is a few IQ points short of genius. Taking a cult hit and squeezing it into a more conventional mold was a bad choice, but still, Valkyrie Profile 2: SIlmeria is worthy of a third entry, which will hopefully be something along the lines of Valkyie Profile 3: Lenneth 2, call me crazy.
G4 TV: X-Play (Oct 31, 2006)
If we're hard on Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria it's because the game was so close to being something great. At its core the game is fiendishly clever. Like the game's baroque visuals, the mechanics are equally ornate – nearly diabolically so. It's a shame to discover such a meticulously crafted game cobbled together with duct-tape. No wonder Odin is ticked; the people in charge of making games about him got so wrapped up in their work that they forgot to make Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria fun for us mere mortals.
Diehard GameFan (Oct 01, 2006)
Adequate sums up this game perfectly. Most RPG’s live and die on their story. Sadly VP2 doesn’t have much if any story at all. The engine is a wonderful idea, but has some bugs to work out and the battles are far too easy for my liking. If you have a PSP, I have to strongly recommend getting the remake of the original VP game. VP2 is a rental or a game you buy one weekend and then trade it in the next. There’s nothing to take a second look at once you’ve beaten it. Sorry Tri-Ace, but some things are better left without a sequel.
