Victorious Boxers: Ippo's Road to Glory

In the end, Victorious Boxers is the best video game interpretation of the sport of boxing ever made, which for a die-hard boxing fan more than makes up for the fact that the game doesn't have real boxers or venues, as does Knockout Kings. If you've been looking for a true boxing simulation, it's hard to go wrong with Victorious Boxers. It doesn't have everything you could want, but it certainly gives you the feeling of being in the ring, thanks to its very well-thought-out and responsive control scheme.

There are no health meters, so you have to catch your opponent with a well-timed punch, just like in real life. I would have scored this higher, if not for the annoying way your fighter tends to end up facing away from his opponent when circling around the ring. Despite this major flaw, I still found Victorious Boxers to be a refreshing break from the norm.

Die Grafik ist zwar sauber, aber nicht sonderlich spektakulär. Positiv sind die Schlagtechniken, diese sind recht präzise auszuführen, und wenn sie mal sitzen, dann aber richtig. Dies wird aber wieder durch die Bewegungs-Steuerung etwas ermüdend. So ist es etwas seltsam, sich um den Gegner zu bewegen und Schlägen auszuweichen. Fazit: Für absolute Box-Fanaten vielleicht mal zu empfehlen, EA´s Boxtitel ist allerdings herausfordernder!

Victorious Boxers est une simulation de boxe surprenante qui nous arrive tout droit de la culture nippone. De nombreuses originalités viennent agrémenter un gameplay très particulier qui, si il a le mérite de s'aventurer sur un terrain nouveau, n'apparaît pas encore très au point. Déplacements et esquives contraignants, manque de précision, bande sonore plutôt fatigante et graphismes un peu légers ne permettent pas au jeu de s'imposer comme une nouvelle référence. Dommage, car le principe mérite que l'on s'y attarde, comme le feront peut-être les fanas de simulation du noble art qui y trouveront un intérêt certain.
