I have been waiting for this game to come out for quite a while and the main reason has been curiosity. Not since Sensible Soccer have I become so engrossed in a football game as I did in Pro Evolution Soccer and I was curious to see how Konami were planning to improve what already was a good game. Upon playing Pro Evolution Soccer 2 for the first time though my questions were immediately answered, the game itself has not changed much from it’s predecessor but there has been just enough difference made to see this game retain the crown it took from the FIFA series last year. The most striking feature of Pro Evolution Soccer was the realism involved in the game play. The way the players reacted when controlling them felt much more natural than other titles on the market. With Pro Evolution Soccer 2 Konami have taken note of problems with the original game and added more to the game play to make it better without taking anything away from the realistic style of the game.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2 on jalkapalloilijan peli.

Last year's American team shocked the world by performing so well in the World Cup. They were an unknown entity that came perilously close to toppling some of the giants of the soccer world. In the world of sports video games, there's no bigger giant than EA Sports. Konami has brought Winning Eleven 6, a virtually unheard of title, to the U.S. to compete for top-dog of soccer sims. And this time, it looks like David might have slain Goliath.

The only real issues I have with this game are its accessibility and playability for a beginner. The controls began as thoroughly confusing and combined with the breadth of gameplay options made for a very annoying first few hours of play. It is however magnificently crafted both visually (watch out for Mr Beckham's now sadly out-dated Mohican), and aurally with the ambient sounds of the chanting crowds and the ever-present (if not slightly annoying) nasal tones of Trevor Brooking. Most importantly however, it is despite my qualms, a more enjoyable and convincing 'football' experience than any other such game on the PS2, and that is quite a compliment.

The game is one of the best soccer experiences to be found. Once again the U.S. won’t see this game and is forced with EA Sports idea of pinball er football. Konami should see that many Americans love soccer and many gamers would really love this game. I know I do.

Aiming is nearly impossible, and most shots sail far over the goal. My friends and I experimented quite a bit and were never able to overcome this horrendous flaw. Another major problem is the lack of configuration options. Sure you can do worthless things like edit a team's flag, but you can't adjust basic parameters like fouls, offsides, or replay frequency. Winning Eleven makes a terrific first impression, but the more you play, the more glaring its flaw become. Winning Eleven has some nice ideas and delivers some excitement, but it needs more time to bake in the oven.
