Note that I say 'usually'. For while I can't quite believe that I'm about to say it, I have to say that - at last - one company appears to have managed to do the impossible. To say that this game is or isn't better than GoldenEye would be disingenuous - GoldenEye is a game more than ten years old on a console generations behind current technology. Comparing Quantum Of Solace and GoldenEye like for like now would just be foolish. However, what I feel that I can say is that if the talented team of game developers who wowed gamers so long ago with that particular N64 title, set to work to produce it again now with current generation technology, then Quantum Of Solace would be the game that they would create. Or to put it another way: this is GoldenEye for a new generation. And praise doesn't come much higher than that.

With Quantum of Solace, Treyarch absolutely nailed the James Bond experience. You truly feel like you’re playing as Bond in the game, which would have been fairly impressive on its own. Coupled with an amazing shooting engine (courtesy of the COD4 engine), Quantum of Solace is the Bond title gamers have been waiting for since GoldenEye. The singleplayer campaign (at about 5-6 hours) is a bit short but the multiplayer mode should more than make up for it.

This game is certainly worth you time and effort. I could careless about any reviewer that tells you otherwise. I'm telling you, this is the best Bond game to hit store shelves in sometime. It brings a great storyline, it gives you actors/actresses, it flows really quickly (and intensely) and it gets you, the gamer, involved with it heavily. This is a fantastic Bond game. Add that to the fact that it has 12-player online play and you're going to be happy that someone finally got a movie license right.

Unfortunately, “decent” just doesn’t cut it right now. October alone delivered a non-stop lineup of A-grade releases and November isn’t going to be much different. It’s tough to recommend Quantum in the face of such stiff competition. If you’re looking for something quick and mindlessly entertaining to pass the time with until the next must-buy drops, Quantum of Solace will deliver. Otherwise, wait for the next release drought and grab this one as a bargain title; you won’t be disappointed.

Unfortunate for Quantum of Solace, had it not been for a slightly confusing “story” and a slightly annoying cover system it could have been a great competitor. Although it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table of an already crowded genre, it still holds it’s own. With some positives like great looking weapons, voice acting from the actors themselves and fun multiplayer modes, Bond can make for a fun weekend game. But it’s negatives like a shorter than usual story, confusing story and repetitive gunplay that hold it back from competing with the likes of Ghost Recon and Gears. Don’t let this stop you from making Quantum a weekend rental, and by all means, if you’re a Bond fan you’ll probably want to pick this up since this is the first Bond game to give you the most authentic Bond experience. The 007 series has come a long way since Goldeneye, even though in my eyes Goldeneye is still the best one, and will always be one of the most influential games in the shooter genre.

At the end of the day Quantum of Solace is a pretty decent game but it is hard to recommend because so many parts of it are regurgitated from other games we have all played so many times before. It is also very short, offering around 5 hours of single player missions, most of which appear to be based on the last movie. The cover system is a nice idea poorly executed and I wish if developers were introducing this that they would at least spend some time play testing and fine tuning it before release. Nothing is more annoying that running up to an object for cover only to find you are still standing upright while getting shot in the head multiple times.

With all of the great games coming out this holiday, it's hard to imagine how Quantum of Solace can compete. I came away just as disappointed as I did with the movie. There was a lot of potential here that wasn't realized. I can't help but feel that they meant to make a Casino Royale game (about 75 percent of the levels are based on it) and Quantum of Solace tagged along for the ride. Treyarch is a talented studio having put out a number of fantastic Call of Duty games. If anyone can put together a decent Bond shooter, it's them. Quantum of Solace is not the game that does that. Maybe next time.

Quantum of Solace isn't the game that it should have been. It's not bad by any means, but what brings it out of the pits of despair is the foundation of a much better game that we all know and love. The action is less compelling and the world that's built around Bond doesn't do much to enhance the fun factor. All of the additions do nothing to push the game ahead of other first-person shooters and instead take you out of the world of being Bond.

Quantum of Solace: The Game is actually well above average where licensed material is concerned. As a shooter on its on merits, however, it’s a fairly standard experience helped a bit because it features James Bond.

Although its developers failed to create an exceptional game, Quantum of Solace's first-person shooting, enjoyable cover system and decent multiplayer modes make it worth playing.

Playstation Illustrated
All in all, Quantum of Solace has enough in the package to make it worth a purchase if you must have a James Bond game, but as a standalone title, it doesn't come close to its competition. To use at least one Bond analogy, this game is as much fun as The Living Daylights with Timothy Dalton. While it is short on style and content, it has plenty of nonsensical action to at least make it entertaining.

It's sad but true, but Quantum of Solace is yet again a mediocre Bond game. It's not abusively bad, but if you're looking for a good shooter, you should probably look elsewhere. The Bond addict should also reconsider buying this, because I don't think 4 hours of singleplayer gameplay and some hours of online gameplay are worth € 65. You decide.

Ultimately James Bond: Quantum of Solace is an entertaining game, but lacking in some areas such as visuals and single player game length. If you're a fan of the movies you may want to check this out, but just don't expect too much.

Gamestyle
Quantum of Solace is by no means a poor first person experience, its just rather bland and decidedly average. Whether this is due to the limitations of the license or the failure of the developer to harness the potential of the Bond universe, we may never know. However the end result is an experience that fails to endure once completed, either in your memory or the drive of your console.

Quantum of Solace will give you enough of a Bond fix, but you’ll be jonesing for something better. Maybe the new film will rectify that, but the new film won’t set you back $60, will it? The game should only take you a few hours to complete, so we can’t possibly recommend that you buy this. So just give it a rental if you have the time or don't bother at all.

IGN Australia
Quantum of Solace is pretty much what youýd expect from a movie-licensed shooter. It ticks all the boxes on a purely surface level, but fails to allow the player any kind of expression or creativity during actual gameplay. You spend the entire game doing what you're told - go through THIS doorway, press THIS button, take cover behind THIS corner and shoot THESE enemies before you can move on to the next area and start it all over. There's plenty of variety in the environments, lots of explosions and general razzle-dazzle but it's all over before bedtime and you'll have forgotten about it by morning.

JeuxActu

In fact, next-gen consoles might be a mixed blessing for the Bond franchise. The temptation is to make sure that the environments and models match the movies as closely as possible, but doing so takes more time and resources with each technical leap forward, and there are only so many months in the development cycle. Hopefully Bond's next foray into the gaming world will deliver an authentic and compelling Bond experience, not just a decent but too-short shooter with some fancy window dressing.

The only conceivable sense of challenge and accomplishment in Quantum of Solace, besides the notion of easy Achievement Points, comes from the online-only multiplayer matches. It has 12 decently designed maps and customizable loadouts, but is anyone going to bother with Gears of War 2 on the market? If you really want the Bond experience, do yourself a favor and spend your dollars on a copy of Casino Royale, a ticket for the Quantum of Solace film, and a tasty bucket of popcorn. I guarantee that there will be far more pleasure in that tub of buttery goodness than a night with this hodge-podge of mediocrity.

People seem to be torn on the quality of Quantum of Solace, the latest Bond film. No one, however, is undecided about the quality of Quantum of Solace the video game. It's a dreary, repetitive affair that never makes you feel excited to be in the shoes of James Bond. I'll stick with Everything and Nothing, thanks. Skip It.
