PlayStation Trophies (Nov 29, 2012)
Brilliant. The last big release of the year, Far Cry 3 may well top them all. Almost unfalteringly entertaining, it’s a game that will have you coming back for more long after the credits have rolled, in order to seek out every nook, cranny and secret of the game’s tropical island. Chuck in a decent multiplayer suite, a fun co-op mode and staggeringly impressive map editor and you’ve got a winner. A must buy.
Neo Plus (Dec, 2012)
GameSpot (Dec 05, 2012)
Far Cry 3 is a delightful and harsh tropical wonderland, crawling with wildlife and threatened by the pirates and drug runners that disrupt its peace. The troubled paradise you explore is colorful and wild, enticing you to investigate its ravines and discover new ways to enjoy the open-world playground sprawling in front of you. This is a game that ignites the desire to complete every last challenge and check out every last icon on your map. You gradually journey across the entirety of two sunny and sinful islands, hunting for rare game, speeding medicine to needy communities, and skinning sharks so that you might craft new wallets with their hides. Far Cry 3 is an excellent game, marred mainly by some irritating design elements and an inconsistent story that often defaults to generic "tribal" cliches to make an impact.
Console Obsession (Dec 12, 2012)
With all the above said, Far Cry 3 is pure gaming brilliance. The very well voiced storyline is consistently likeable, and there’s some truly detestable characters to be found on Rook Island, with their actions most likely causing many to want to hunt them down. The island itself is full of gorgeous scenery and much to do, and the multiplayer modes, while not offering much new or being as strong as the single player campaign, are competent enough. Far Cry 3’s island may not be as much of a perfect holiday destination as such a part of the world may suggest, but it certainly makes for a wonderful game.
IGN (Nov 21, 2012)
It’s easy to see why someone would want to visit Rook Island – it’s a stunning tropical location with plenty of fun activities, scenic views, and history worth discovering. Far Cry 3 disrupts that paradise to challenge your feelings about enjoying violence. Because of lunatics like Hoyt and Vaas, you’ll see beautiful things you never would have. You’ll do terrible things that make you uncomfortable and meet fascinating, disgusting people. You’ll sympathize with Jason Brody’s difficult choices as he turns from vapid young man into a monster. Far Cry 3 is important for the same reason as Far Cry 2. It’s a shooter that considers shooters thoughtfully, both in the way they’re designed and the way we play them, and then asks us to do the same. Should massacring hundreds be a great way to entertain ourselves? Maybe not. But it is.
PlayFrance (Dec 04, 2012)
HonestGamers (Dec 02, 2012)
In the run up to release, Far Cry 3 made a lot of promises. For the most part, it lives up to that hype. Its beautiful open world rewards exploration and experimentation like no other, offering up a compelling adventure and violence that is frequently breathless and spectacular. To say its ambition is its downfall would place unwarranted emphasis on its minor shortcomings. While the thoughtful central theme fails to find its mark, you’re unlikely to care as you line up another machete decapitation. In a year filled with games offering a cocktail of violence and self-conscious commentary, Far Cry 3 does at least one of those better than any other.
Thunderbolt Games (Jan 05, 2013)
Despite being hampered by a well meaning, but ultimately interfering, plot, Far Cry 3 has evolved into a decadent, playful and exciting title. Be it quality programming, dumb luck or a mixture of them both, the game plunges you into a thick, gloopy world of sugary gameplay, shimmering visuals, intoxicating audio as well as a great deal more. It’s long, stupid and buckets of fun - just what you need to burn away the winter blues.
