Description

The Legend of Dead Kel is a downloadable content pack (DLC) for the 2012 game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

The DLC features a new region called the Gallows End, the legendary hideout of pirate king Dead Kel and his Hanged Men. It is said that from this location Dead Kel and his men attacked and plundered every ship traversing over the Frostbreak Sea. None where safe, not even military ships. Eventually the Alfar Navy of Rathir launched an all out attack on the island to stop Dead Kel once and for all, destroying his ship and killing anyone aboard in the process.

But Dead Kel didn't stay dead, he was brought to live by the island god Akara. He started plundering the sea again and the Alfar Navy's attacked seemed to have no effect at all. This is the moment that the player enters the island, after their ship have been destroyed by the Hanged Men. As it quickly turns out, the island is a host to not only the pirates, but also old ruins, including a Dverga made keep from over 500 years ago. The keep, Gravehal Keep, is said to be haunted and thus stands empty amongst the lush forests. The Hero, together with the gnome Padrig Dower, take back Gravehal Keep and inhabit it once again.

During their quest, the player kills Bloodgrin and the Whispering Witch, members of the Hanged Men and the witch is said to be the lover of Dead Kel. The player ending the live of the girl possessed by the Whispering Witch, becomes the new Scion of Akara instead. As the new Scion, the player needs to enter the Circle of Akara and complete a ritual. The ritual is disturbed by one of the Hanged Men, the Baronett. After completing the ritual and entering Akara-Tor, it turns out that Akara is in fact a branch of the Ring of Keozai, just like the Nyralim in the main game. It also turns out that the true purpose of being the Scion is that the Scion has the task to end Dead Kel.

It turns out that Dead Kel never wanted to be brought back to life, as he finally found the peace in death, that he searched for in life. He is eventually killed by the player and returns to rest. All the Hanged Men are defeated by the player and the pirates scatter. The island is once again free of pirates and safe to pass with ships.

The region features new main and side quests, new enemies like the Root Golems and Scavs, and a lot of new items including unique ones. The Keep is the biggest of the player owned houses and the only one featured in a DLC. The Keep features Beast Training, where the player can keep trained beasts as pets, giving passive bonuses. The player can own three beasts at a time, and can choose from a Boggart, Spider, Rat, Brownie, Wolf, Bear, Barghest, and Root Golem.
