The Game Hoard (Apr 30, 2018)
While Mass Effect 3 certainly has a few narrative troubles and a bad infection of vapid side quests, the majority of the experience is the refinement of the Mass Effect series’s elements. It continues the trend of a strong emotional core and choices of galactic consequence, but the gunplay has finally achieved a level where it could carry a game on its own and the resolution of an entire galaxy of interesting worlds, characters, and experience provides an incredibly satisfying conclusion to an altogether amazing video game trilogy.

For those willing to brave a conclusion that isn’t spoon fed to them by idiots, Mass Effect 3 is a breathtaking, gorgeous piece of software. Its few quibbles aren’t enough to detract from the monumental achievement in storytelling that Bioware has released. Let’s just hope they don’t cheapen it with an MMO.

I have never given a “5 out of 5″, and I probably never will, can anything ever be truly perfect? But I can promise you I gave it some very serious thought in this case. Very serious. I’ve ended up cheating and giving it a 4.75 out of 5, which I’m not technically allowed to do. (*Sorry Ed.!) What is Mass Effect 3 like overall? Put it this way; if you buy this and don’t like it I’ll personally refund you. If you own a system capable of playing this and do not buy it I actually feel bad for you. Seriously. Please do yourself a favour and spend your hard earned cash on this piece of gaming genius. Please.

All told, Mass Effect 3 is an absolutely amazing game, one that successfully puts a bow on the Mass Effect trilogy while still leaving us hungry for even more. It looks and plays great, but Mass Effect 3’s true strength lies in its ability to tell a deeply-woven story. Better yet, the sheer ambition shown by BioWare in announcing an intersecting trilogy complete with save importation becomes fully realized in Mass Effect 3. BioWare deserves applause for not only having the courage to attempt something like the Mass Effect trilogy, but for pulling it off with such exceptional poise and skill. Mass Effect 3 isn’t the best game ever made. But it’ll certainly be in the conversation for a very long time to come.

Does Mass Effect 3 live up to the hype that came with it the months, weeks, days and hours before it was released? Yes in short, because it completes one of the best trilogies in videogames today. It ties up loose ends and concludes the story nicely. It builds upon what the previous games had and provides an experience that fans of the franchise can get behind as well as new people to the franchise. By having Role-play, Story, and Action for the differing modes you can play the Single Player Campaign on, you give something for every type of player. With the addition of multiplayer, which is necessary in any kind of game that has a shooting element to it this game, provides the player with many opportunities to keep playing well after the single player campaign has ended. Whether you are a fan of the franchise or someone new who heard about the game and all the hype, I am here to tell you it’s worthy of the hype and you should buy this game right away.

Mass Effect 3 is the perfect ending to a masterful trilogy that's gone from strength-to-strength with each title. It's the conclusion we were hoping for – despite the divisive fallout the ending has sparked since the game's launch - with each decision demanding that you think twice before pulling the trigger. Thanks for the memories, BioWare... It's been emotional.

A handful of bugs and dodgy moments aren't enough to drag Mass Effect 3 down. It's not perfect, but as a delivery of the package Bioware had conceived, it's pretty damn close. It's epic, exciting, fun and ultimately - above all else - satisfying. Shepard's story may be over, but I can't wait to see what this team does - and what happens to this universe - next.

Worth Playing (Mar 09, 2012)
Mass Effect 3 is the end of a trilogy, and unfortunately, it's a mixed bag. Merely seeing the end of countless plotlines is almost worth the cost of the title, and the gameplay remains solid and fun. A few new features do a lot to spoil the mood, and the frustratingly unsatisfying ending casts a shadow over the entire franchise. Mass Effect 3 is not a bad game, but it doesn't feel like Bioware learned much from Mass Effect 2. If you enjoyed the previous game, there's plenty to like here, and the bad parts are easy enough to ignore. However, the problems make Mass Effect 3 a game for fans only. The sure-to-be controversial ending means that even fans may find a lot to complain about, but anyone who enjoyed Mass Effect 2 will find a lot to like in the final game in the trilogy, even despite its flaws.

Epique.

Edge (Mar 06, 2012)
It’s a third and final chapter, then, with all that implies. It’s off-putting to new players, too busy tying up loose ends to dangle any threads of its own, and fails to stand up as its own game in the same manner as its predecessors. But it’s also a spectacular, powerfully imagined and dramatically involving final act to one of gaming’s richest sci-fi sagas.

Giant Bomb (Mar 06, 2012)
At the end of the day, Mass Effect 3 is a game for people who liked Mass Effect 2 so much that they absolutely need to see how it all ends. Despite claims to the contrary from the game's publisher, I really don't think newcomers will get much out of it at all. All it would take is getting to the new character creation screen and being forced to select between Numerous, Ashley, or Kaiden from a screen that asks you who died during your previous missions for a new player to realize they're being asked questions they couldn't possibly answer in an educated way. The value in this story is from seeing characters you adore dealing with a continuing situation. Even though it doesn't come together quite as successfully as it did in the previous games, those of you with an attachment to the Mass Effect universe should still play it.
