Unfortunately, the game, with its limited modes, feels like something is missing. In other words, playing MotorStorm is like having sex with one of the Olsen twins: It's awesome, it's brief, the two of you won't really have much to talk about afterward, and you'll be left wondering why the other twin didn't join in.
Sony’s got a podium finish with MotorStorm, no problem. Time to open whatever booze off roaders celebrate with. Tennants Extra anyone?
If you have a Playstation 3 and don’t own this game then you should get your wallet out and head to the game shop now, it really is a must own title for everyone, the action is fast paced and explosive and it makes perfect use of your new sixaxis controller, so what are you waiting for? the game shop awaits.
TGSN (The Gaming Shack Network)
Motorstorm has had such mixed media support that it could have gotten scores from two to ten across the board, and after the controversial 'computer-generated gameplay' shown at E3, as well as its feature lacking Japanese launch, its success over here certainly seemed in question. However, it's finally out, and exceeds all reasonable expectations.
Overall this is one hell of a game for the PS3 to begin with. Sure it’s not got a huge selection of tracks or game modes but its £10 cheaper than a full price PS3 game and the online portion of the game is simply to die for. It looks stunning, the vehicles, the maps, the backgrounds - just about everything - look perfect and considering this is only a first-generation game it really is amazing to see just how graphically superior this game is compared to other racing titles. If you don't have PSN then you may fare better spending your money on another game, but if you have online capabilities, Motorstorm is an absolute must.
With MotorStorm, Evolution Studios has nailed the fundamental gameplay and presentation. This game screams next-generation from the way your vehicle jumps violently around sharp corners or mud fills the screen, there is no doubt that MotorStorm is right up there with the best this generation currently has to offer. We expect to see more of everything: more tracks, more vehicles, more gameplay modes for the sequel but everything else is nearly perfect.
I had the best time playing MotorStorm. It’s not too often that after a review process, you’ll want to keep playing the game. MotorStorm still has appeal to me. Even with the limitations this is the first true killer app for the PS3. MotorStorm will now be an ever important franchise in the armory of Sony. Every aspect of the game works so well on so many levels that we can only hope it’ll get support through some downloadable content. I can keep singing MotorStorms praises but this is one game you have to experience for yourself, otherwise you’ll be missing out on one of the finest crafted extreme racing games out there. No joke, with MotorStorm, you are playing beyond.
The Video Game Critic
Had Sony even attempted some sort of split-screen action, I would have been tempted to slap an "A+" on this bad boy. Motor Storm is an adrenaline-soaked thrill ride from beginning to end. Some critics have called it shallow, but if that's the case, I wish more games were this shallow.
Though MotorStorm isn't as otherworldly beautiful as the now infamous E3 2005 trailer, it is, however, a stunning technical achievement in its own right. The ultraspectacular graphics and physics are awe-inspiring, while the audio will simply blow anyone away. With all the technical prowess, the gameplay itself lags a little behind. Despite that, MotorStorm delivers an enjoyable and very refreshing experience. In short: if there's one game to show off the PlayStation 3's power, it's MotorStorm.
All in all, MotorStorm is right up there with Resistance as one of the must-have games on the PS3. The visuals, the unique racing gameplay and the solid online play make it an easy choice for those looking to blow some of the dust off their expensive console.
MotorStorm is definitely the showcase title for the PS3 that we all expected it to be, with a great selection of vehicles that actually lend themselves to varied racing strategies and unique routes through wonderfully intricate and natural track designs. But while it looks and sounds amazing there is a disturbing lack of depth to the gameplay that will likely cause concern for a lot of racing enthusiasts. Despite a lack of race modes, local multiplayer, replay camera, and a few other missing genre standards, Evolution Studios has set the bar extremely high for future off-road racing games, at least in overall presentation. Now if they can only offer a bit more substance for the inevitable sequel they might just have the perfect racer.
The Next Level
Arcade or simulation. It's a straightforward dichotomy defining most titles in the ever-expanding racing genre. It's turn and burn against the holding the apex. Only the rare title can find a way to successfully integrate aspects of both in a new and innovative way. The exciting news for PS3 fans is that MotorStorm has that rare combination. It hits the track hard with a bunch of fresh ideas that you'll notice at every turn. All in all, there is certainly a ton of fun to be had here and it's finally another solid reason to own a PS3. It brings a lot to the genre by balancing out the skill necessary to win with the simple fun and speed of arcade racing. For MotorStorm is definitely worth a purchase for PS3 owners, even if it only holds your attention for a limited time.
Sony has found another premier franchise in MotorStorm, like Twisted Metal, I can see this action based racer spawning several follow ups keeping gamers in tune with the mud bath. The visuals are one of the best seen in the next generation of gaming, showcasing the potential of the Playstation 3s capabilities. Motor Storm will please any racing fan with its aggressive hard pounding action, unique track design, and variety in vehicles. Motor Storm surpassed my expectations and will be one game in my collection that I will be constantly revisiting. If you have a PS3 then you need to pick up MotorStorm, Sony’s first “must have” exclusive title.
Evolution Studios have taken the racing genre, stripped away all the excess flab that it has acquired over the years and rebuilt it, putting sheer fun at the top of the agenda once again. Motorstorm is a must-buy for any PlayStation 3 owner, it's that simple.
This game may not be environmentally friendly but it is a game that really shows off the power of the new console while at the same offering players with a challenge and gaming experience not offered on other platforms. If you are racing fan this is the one that gives you the excuse to buy a PlayStation 3.
I probably wouldn't buy a PS3 just for MotorStorm, but it is the first legitimate must-have title if you've already got one.
Finally, Motorstorm gives PlayStation 3 owners another reason to make their 360- and Wii-owning friends jealous. MotorStorm is one of the best original next-gen offerings so far, a truly unique racer, and just a kick-butt video game overall. While we look to a sequel to fix the complaints, no PS3 owner should pass up the chance to get swept away by MotorStorm.
MotorStorm has been a long time coming but we’re happy to report it’s been well worth the wait. When we played early code back in October last year we had a feeling the single-player game was going to be something special and we haven’t been disappointed. It’s not the fastest racer on the circuit – in fact it seems pretty lethargic at times, although switching to the in-car view really ramps up the feeling of speed – but it’s certainly one of the most enjoyable and best-looking. The loading times are sometimes iffy and it can take up to 30 seconds just to load a track, but once you’re behind the wheel of a souped-up rally car, churning through thick mud while quads, bikes and racing trucks nudge at you from every side, you won’t really care.
MotorStorm is a great addition to the PS3’s library, especially early on in its lifecycle. While there may not be so much to do in the game as the racing genre has seen in the past, the physics and visuals of the game are wholly impressive -- the game is worth playing just to experience them. Single player mode will take a large investment of time to beat completely, and the online community is populated enough to have a new challenge present itself each time you enter a new game. MotorStorm is a solid racing title.
For the most part, Motorstorm is a game that does not fail to meet it lofty expectations. However, it is in having such wide ambitions that the game also fails, as meeting the expectations of gameplay and ambience have left other areas such as lasting appeal and additional content by the wayside. Even with a barren landscape of options, Motorstorm's annihilative mindset, suicidal gameplay and opulent presentation make this one race, regardless of the means, that has to be engaged at least once - even if it's only for a weekend rental. Mark my words though - you won't want to send it back!
Video Game Talk
Despite what you may think the eight tracks unfortunately don't go a long way to making the game diverse and things can become a tad dry after a while. Luckily the online play makes up for it and the variety in vehicles forces you to change the way you drive constantly. There are few games on the market that are as fun as Motorstorm and for the foreseeable future this is the racing game to check out if you want a down and dirty experience. Highly Recommended
Digital Entertainment News (den)
Motorstorm may appear to lack a bit on the surface, but offers a surprising amount of depth once you dig in. With multiple paths for every track and the wildly varying strategies necessary for seven different vehicles it offers a lot for the dedicated racer, but the simple pick up and play mechanics and high-speed fun make it a great choice for the casual gamer as well. If you own a PS3 and like racing games at all this one is a must-have.
I guess this is what next-gen should be about - providing us gamers with experiences that just simply wouldn't have been possible on the last-gen technology. Possibly the most outright entertaining game in the PS3's launch line-up, MotorStorm is also one of the most technically breathtaking. The premise of the game is based around a fictional racing festival in a mountainous, arid desert, which I presume was just an excuse for throwing all of the PS3's mighty processing power into a deluge of racing genocide.
There is so much to love about MotorStorm that it makes smaller flaws stand out more prominently. It's the kind of game that would benefit from extra modes - stunt modes, Burnout-style explosion modes and a few more tracks. Given that it's a launch title, we wholly expect shortcomings and simplified content. That MotorStorm succeeds as often as it does is a testament to the abilities of developer, Evolution - it leaves us wanting even more.
Sony has jump-started its newest racing franchise in a fantastic way. Yes, the limited number of tracks and gameplay options hold it back quite a bit, but the fundamental racing is incredible. The variety in vehicle types is great, the track designs are awesome and the online is extremely fun. We simply cannot wait for a sequel.
This is a terrific experience. The overall package may feel a little light in terms of variety, but the game is terrific eye candy that plays very well, has a solid challenge and is much fun to play.
Video Game Generation
While MotorStorm is short on features, it’s long on style and fun. This is an incredibly visceral racing experience from beginning to end, and what’s here is enough to make it one of the best games on the system to date. Sure, the inevitable MotorStorm 2 will most likely beef up the gameplay options and modes while refining the same frantic experience even further, but what we have now makes for a must-buy for all racing fans. Between this, Formula One, and Ridge Racer 7, the PS3 is quickly becoming the racing game fan's system of choice.
For racing enthusiasts, they will spend most of their time within the online multiplayer primarily because this title’s fun factor is increased ten fold when competing against some other than the A.I. That’s not a bad thing though, racing titles are generally multiplayer heavens, but one thing is clear; if you do indeed get your hand son this title, you will enjoy the experience of a lifetime.
Motorstorm is without a doubt a great racing game, even if doesn’t last forever. It’s fresh in a way racing games haven’t felt for years, has a decent soundtrack and it somehow manages to make racing big rigs and mud-pluggers look cool. It certainly doesn’t justify the entry fee, but for those with more money than sense, Motorstorm is dirty in the best way possible. We just hope Evolution remember to add more stuff in the next one.
GamingHeaven / DriverHeaven
First-gen titles on a console are usually lacking and unfortunately MotorStorm is no exception. The Japanese version lacks any kind of multiplayer, which would be perfect for a game like this. Fortunately the Euro/US versions will have multiplayer capabilities, which will make this the definitive racing game for the PS3. If you are hungry for adrenalin pumping racing and don’t care much for multiplayer you should get your hands on the Japanese version. Otherwise wait for a few more weeks and buy the translated version. Either way, no one should miss out on this great title.
Game Freaks 365
Overall, MotorStorm is one of the better PlayStation 3 games on the market. It is one of the only racing games I feel deserves to be called “visceral,” and only by bolding “exciting” do I stress how thrilling this game really is. It’s got the top visuals, excellent soundtrack, explosive crashes, detailed courses–really, the only thing more you could want is a little substance, but in the end, MotorStorm is still worth the purchase. PS3 owners needed something to do anyway.
So after much waiting we see the culmination of the hard work since E3. The game is a hair-on-fire kind of racer, giving players the chance to race the short list of tracks in multiple ways and with multiple vehicles. On the technical side, the framerate has been smoothed over since the Japanese release, and the addition of online multiplay ensures a much better final product for the U.S. version. While it doesn’t even come close to the chaos of the pre-rendered footage we saw last May, it does deliver as a solid racer. Pick up the demo and take it for a spin – you won’t be disappointed.
Motorstorm looks to be the start of a great racing franchise for the PS3. Although the game is somewhat hurt by a limited single player experience (only one race mode) and rather small amount of tracks the great online multiplayer and kick ass graphics help to compensate for this. Motorstorm is a must have title for any gamer with a PS3 and a definite game that will show friends what the PS3 is capable of this early in the game.
MotorStorm is white-knuckled racing at its best, with jaw-dropping visuals and explosive action so grimy you may get the urge to take a shower afterward.
Video Games Daily
If you've shelled out for a PS3 nice and early, then you're not going to want to miss out on one of the system's first must-have games. MotorStorm is gorgeous and loads of fun, and you'll be playing it online for months - regardless of how fast you complete the singleplayer game.
PAL Gaming Network (PALGN)
MotorStorm is a fantastic racing game and a brilliant new IP for Sony. There are however some things which are missing from the game which stop the game from getting an even higher score. The omission of a quick race option and the short single player mode both indicate that the game's development was a little rushed for the launch of the PlayStation 3. Despite this, MotorStorm comes highly recommended, it's an addictive racing game and features some of the most incredible AI ever seen in a console game.
Despite some handling/physics quirks, MotorStorm remains the most refreshing and original racer we've played in ages - but a few unfortunate oversights rob it of the score it deserves. Looks like we'll have to twiddle our thumbs until the inevitable MotorStorm 2 hits PS3 before we can finally dish out that coveted GM Gold Award then...
Computer and Video Games (CVG)
Still, while we wait for those options to turn up in the final UK release, we're more than happy to get dirty alone. Motorstorm is, along with Ridge Racer 7, one of the definitive first-generation PS3 racers.
Cheat Code Central
All in all, this is an excellent title that will have you on the edge of your seat. MotorStorm is heart racing fun that lives up to its E3 billing. This is a quality title for the PS3, and will be a litmus test for graphic quality in the future. Get down and dirty with MotorStorm on March 6th, 2007.
Gamers' Temple, The
MotorStorm is a lot of fun for a while, but there needs to be more to it if it’s to hold your interest in the long run. Hopefully Sony takes the game’s core and builds a feature-rich racer around it for MotorStorm 2. If that happens they just may have one of the best racers available for any console.
Lack of single-player content notwithstanding, MotorStorm is still among the must-haves for PlayStation 3 owners, especially those who are starved for something new and original. While it's not a killer app, the gorgeous visuals, chaotic off-road racing action and 12-player online multiplayer support are definitely worth it.
The unparalleled presentation MotorStorm dishes out certainly deserves praise, but it isn’t enough to hide a number of glaring omissions in its gameplay. Lacking several standard single and multiplayer features, the game feels somewhat shallow. At least the game makes up for this with the most compelling racing mechanics of any off-road title. Huge courses, branching paths, and true-to-life physics lend MotorStorm an intensity few other racings ever achieve. Even if it’s hard to escape the sense that it could have been more MotorStorm easily races to recommendation as one of the best early titles for PlayStation 3.
It's hard to create an entry in the racing genre which gamers will pick over the already established series. With MotorStorm, Evolution Studios did just that. The incredible racing engine, physics, track deformation and vehicle types make for one very fun ride. On the downside, it's obvious this is a first effort, because there just aren't a lot of features to spice things up. From a gameplay standpoint, it's hard to top MotorStorm. It is frustrating having a game so incredible be marred by a lack of modes, but with the framework solidly in place, hopefully the next MotorStorm title can add to it.
Motorstorm is a very entertaining racing game that showcases just why you spent so much on the PS3. Having said that the game does still feel somewhat incomplete in some areas. Fortunately connecting online will provide new content, game modes and fixes. This is still certainly worth a purchase.
For me MotorStorm was a great surprise, it looks far better than I ever thought it would, it plays far better than I expected and it's a great "pick up and play" game that we don't see enough of these days. If you want another game for your PS3 this definitely should be it if you haven't already got it, as in my opinion it is one of the must own games for the PS3 along with Resistance.
In the end, just as in the beginning, MotorStorm is what it always promised to be: a festival of speed, dirt and delighted vehicular lunacy.
We’ve covered both king hit PS3 launch titles now, and while I couldn’t recommend Resistance as a take-home game for your new PS3, THIS I can. The limited multiplayer puts a ceiling on any rating this game will get. Even so, its good simple fun that a whole family can enjoy. I’m with you on that 8/10.
It looks great, its fun to play, the levels are creative, but without split screen I couldn’t go above 8 diesel powered rubber chickens, out of 10. I also desperately wanted a chain like in Road Rash for which to hit ppl with..painfully. Pain much. PAIN.
"MotorStorm" é um game empolgante, principalmente jogando em multiplayer online, mas fica prejudicado pelas poucas pistas e opções de jogo. O visual é uma boa notícia para os usuários de PlayStation 3, pois se chegou a uma alta qualidade mesmo com pouco tempo de carreira. Enfim, é de se lamentar a sensação de incompletude, mas é algo que se pode corrigir ao longo do tempo, via conteúdo adicional pela PlayStation Network. Resta saber a que preço.
So yeah, we've been told lots about MotorStorm. So let's be excited about the fact that it still manages to feel incredibly fresh, immediate and exotic, in spite of its notoriety. Bolstered for its European release, it ought to be a classic, but right now it's simply excellent. Plus I got to use the word 'ejaculate', which was a New Year's Resolution [fired! - Ed].
Sony has a potential franchise on their hands and a truly impressive engine. It has already been announced that the next WipeOut game will utilize it and that is really exciting. With a few tweaks to the online functionality and the addition of some single-player options this game could easily become a fan-favorite. Right now with its small selection of tracks and shallow career mode the game falls short of being a classic. Still if you are a PS3 owner in need of some new software MotorStorm will satisfy in just about every area.
All of this leads me to believe that Sony Entertainment is leaving the door wide open for an entire series of MotorStorm games. Why make a game this good with different missions, tasks and tracks when you can string it out through 4 or 5 games? I guess I'm old fashioned--I paid $60 for this game right when it came out, and I'm staggered at the boring, old-school "win the race to open other locked races and vehicles" mentality. I bet that a MotorStorm 2 will be out just in time for Christmas, boasting more tracks, more vehicles and more missions. Get your wallet ready--we're all in for an amazingly fun, expensive ride.
But when you get down to brass tacks this is a launch game, and many of them get rushed to retail simply because they’re needed to sell consoles – it’s a time when marketing wins over more time in the oven. However, MotorStorm is a very polished, exciting, and unique racer that may just win you over with its challenging, fun gameplay - the most important thing, after all. Besides, long as it’s free, there will be additions to the game that will flesh out the features, making a more complete experience. And if history is our guide, an inevitable MotorStorm 2 will end up being a bona-fide must have. Whether that’s good enough for most of us is up for debate, though. It’s not a killer app to sell PS3’s to the masses, but it’s a good, fun game for those who already have taken the plunge on the console…which for now seems good enough.
Motorstorm is a good racing experience that gets dragged down by an awful menu system and some cumbersome load times. Online play is great, but it’s not enough to make up for the disappointing single-player experience.
Motorstorm is a great game, especially as a launch game to show off the system’s capabilities, and with the promise of new modes (and a new track) being released soon as downloadable content, it seems hard not to recommend Motorstorm to anyone who has a PS3. If it and Resistance: Fall of Man have been enough to convince the three of my friends I have let play it to shell out £425 for the console alone, it has got to be doing something right.
MotorStorm does everything you want it to. It’s fast, furious, gorgeous, addictive and challenging, however it is not perfect. The lack of split screen is a huge blow for the game, as are the long loading times, but these don’t detract from how good the game is. For those that prefer to play games on their own then this will be a great game to either start off your PlayStation 3 collection, or to add to it. If however you want a multiplayer game then this may not be the best option available.
MotorStorm's limited amount of tracks and few options leaves a little bit to be desired, but that can be resolved with a sequel. For the time being, this incredible racing game shouldn't be missed. Featuring a presentation that brings out the best in the PS3, the racing remains intense throughout and the online play should make this an instant favorite around the Sony community. This forecast calls for plenty of kick-ass excitement... and MotorStorm delivers it.
In conclusion, MotorStorm is a visually appealing title that is a recommended buy for hardcore racing fans. The anal-retentiveness of the gameplay will attract the sorts of people who find track memorization and careful controls to be rewarding, though we don't recommend using the Sixaxis motion control to steer. Casual gamers, however, might want to stay far, far away. It is not a pick up and play experience by any stretch of the imagination. Visually, it's one of the most impressive titles out there on the PS3, although the amount of detail seems to have taxed the system; load times border on intolerable. Our online experiences were good, and unlike many PS3 titles, there are lots of people playing right now. While we can't emphatically recommend MotorStorm for casual gamers, racing fans will be quite happy with their purchase.
An electrifying sense of speed, buckets of grit and a sensational soundtrack from the likes of Nirvana and Kings Of Leon also help make Motorstorm the only PS3 racer worth owning, but a general lack of polish and a poor variety of tracks mean it’s only a taster of better things to come.
MotorStorm is a great game but it's impossible to overlook its shortcomings. It's a launch title in every sense of term (awkward motion control included), doing its bit to showcase the PlayStation 3's power but skimping on features. It's certainly one of the early titles that new PS3 owners should have on their shopping lists but there's no doubt that this is just a test for an inevitable, more feature rich sequel that will arrive in the future.
Lets be honest, the PS3 has taken FOREVER to get its act together and Motorstorm is one of the titles which will be running in your tray until more games really start showing the power of this console. If you like offroad, online, never have friends that visit and in general love racers then this is for you. If not wait around as I’m sure Motorstorm 2 will hit PS3 at some point in time and it should have an offline multiplayer option…it is 2008 you know!
Motorstorm is a good game that also feels like it has a great deal of untapped potential. As an over-the-top, gorgeous-to-look-at racer, Motorstorm is absolutely a success. As a deep and lasting experience, it's far from it. The question, then, is what's more important to you? Is it of greater import to you that a game feature great racing mechanics and incredible graphics, features be damned? Or does a deep array of lasting modes and features make or break a game for you? If you answered yes to the former, then Motorstorm is unequivocally the game for you. If you answered yes to the latter, pay consideration to just how much you're going to get out of a solid online mode and a cheap-feeling single-player mode that you'll probably never go back to once you finish it. Either way, here's to hoping that the next time around, Evolution turns in a more fleshed-out experience to go with its great game design.
It's hard to recommend MotorStorm to someone who is looking to spend a lot of time playing it offline - the core is painfully limited, there are no other modes, and the vehicular selection is forced. For you offline gamers, MotorStorm is a rental, at best. But for the online folk, you'll surely want to keep this game around for quite some time. The decision is yours.
MotorStorm has an abysmally low amount of gameplay modes, which really takes away from the game's lasting value. It's too bad, as the actual racing is arcadey but fairly deep and very fun. Online play is a blast, but the lack of local multiplayer or any half-decent career modes and barebones presentation really take away from the experience. If you love dirty, muddy racing and mostly want to play against people online, then it's a no-brainer to pick up MotorStorm. Otherwise, you should probably think twice.
There is no doubt the game does have some awe moments… for me racing up a ramp sitting on a bike only to jump over a huge truck taking another route though the canyon as Wolfmother’s 2006 hit ‘Woman’ blasts through the speakers is a gaming moment that won’t soon be topped. However, if Sony were hoping to catch an audience with Motorstorm just like they did with WipEout back in 1995 they will ultimately be sorely disappointed.
All of us here who played MotorStorm agreed that the online mode was truly its best quality, and more than anything else provides a tantalizing glimpse of the future of this franchise. Yes, this first game has some flaws that detract from its jaw-dropping presentation, but it seems likely that it will be looked back on in much the same way as we look back on the original Burnout: a great concept with tons of potential that's denied greatness because of some unfortunate limitations. Whether Sony chooses to enhance the experience with downloadable content, or to move quickly on a sequel remains to be seen, but what seems inevitable is that this is a first-party franchise that will join the likes of Wipeout and Twisted Metal as part of the fabric of PlayStation gaming culture.
Gildia Gier Komputerowych
But at the end of the day, it’s really only about as fun as bashing toys together cataclysmically. And – if you’re buying rather than renting – it’s a lot more expensive.
MotorStorm has impressed a lot of reviewers out there with its high adrenaline-pumping action and yes it's a real blast when playing online. However, the game is very shallow and offers little in the way of single-player entertainment. There should have been more tracks, far more race variety and far more longevity for the single-player. Those who are purchasing the game with the idea of playing online will no doubt be impressed. Those who aren't looking to play online will probably find the game lacking in depth. Not including an offline multiplayer mode is a really strange decision and does kind of hint of the game being rushed out. Still there's a lot of potential here and with a few adjustments, it's possible that a sequel could really be worthy of being hailed as a gaming classic.
Computer Bild Spiele
In the end, the gameplay is just what the demo showed off. If you loved the demo, you might like MotorStorm - just don't expect any surprises. Surprise.
Motorstorm is a superb looking game that provides some truly fun moments, and is probably a must if you like your online racers. A less than inspiring solo game and no splitscreen mode means in loses a couple of points, but as always I'm sure developers Evolution would have made a deeper game if time allowed.
If MotorStorm becomes the harbinger of PlayStation 3 titles shipping with less content than they should only to have things bolted back on via microtransactions, it'll be highlighted for all the wrong reasons. If instead it is merely the first iteration of what will become Evolution Studios' flagship PS3 franchise, then MotorStorm is indeed one of the first examples of what the hardware can do post-launch. We'll undoubtedly find out which in the coming months, but one thing is certain: the building blocks to a truly great off-road racer are here, but they just didn't come together in a way that offered serious depth or replayability. Hell, there are likely plenty of folks that will abandon the single-player game altogether and defect to the online aspect, something that could have been capitalized on. There's that damn "could" word again...
Just how much you value remarkable graphics will decide if MotorStorm is for you, as the few tracks on offer are magnificent to behold. For any proud new owner of the PlayStation 3, it's a standard bearer, but all too soon you'll be looking to leave Monument valley.
Simply put, the biggest problem with MotorStorm is the lack of depth in the offline portion of the game. No quick race modes, no offline multiplayer, bulky controls on some of the larger vehicles, and extremely repetitive single player gameplay. The addition of leaderboards and a more streamlined online interface would also greatly enhance the replay value of this one. As an online racer, MotorStorm is an enjoyable experience, but is seriously lacking in features for anyone who prefers a single-player experience.
Maybe Motorstorm is a good example of why PS3 games are switching to a smaller downloadable format; there’s a fun game here but it felt a bit lightweight for a full-fledged release. So assuming you aren’t one of those fancy French Formula One fans, get a little mud action on that PS3 of yours.
