Gamers' Temple, The
Sport games that are over-the-top versions of popular sports are difficult for developers. I mean if they take the game too far then it loses the basic appeal of the real sport it's based on. However if you don't make it wild enough then gamers don't have much reason to play it. Me, I would rather go overboard and create games like SSX. You know, games based on something real but at the same time doing things that the laws of physics just will not allow to happen. Another problem is that after a successful run in a series it can be hard to keep the fun and originality around that make the series a hit in the first place. All of the points are a concern with EA's newest entry in the NBA Street game. How does the newest in the series hold up? One way to find out is to keep reading...

But don't let the lack of variety deter you; there's plenty of game to be played in Homecourt, and it's all great fun. EA Sports Big deserves big ups for their efforts here, a successful combination of immensely entertaining gameplay and a distinctive design aesthetic. If you're the sort who generally avoids the sports games, this one is still worth trying on as a pick-up-and-play party game. NBA Street Homecourt slam dunks the opposition, demonstrating that all of us have an inner baller just waiting to be unleashed.

NBA Street Homecourt really takes things up a notch. EA Canada has made the gameplay tighter and more intuitive, improved the graphics significantly, and got together a killer soundtrack. For the next iteration, we want the option to turn off the sepia tone and more gameplay modes, but the gameplay itself is nearly perfect.

It's no surprise that EA Canada and EA BIG pulled off a four-peat with Homecourt. The series continues to receive substantial updates and refinements that keep it fresh and exciting. NBA Street Homecourt is easily the best iteration that the series has produced, and it's one of the first 3rd party must haves for the PS3. If you enjoy sports games, or basketball, specifically, then you really owe it to yourself to check Homecourt. It's visually impressive, features a great deal of gameplay, superb online features, a masterfully done soundtrack, and a ton of replay value. NBA Street Homecourt comes highly recommended.

NBA Street Homecourt is not a perfect game. There are certain letdowns when it comes to the single player experience, repetitive voice work, and graphical flare. It is however a damned good game and frankly one of the best basketball titles that I have ever played. The gameplay engine is rock solid and the style is just about as good as you'll find anywhere. Over-the-top sports titles have come a long way since the days of NBA Jam and Homecourt deserves a place on your shelf if you ever considered yourself a fan of the genre. Highly Recommended.

NBA Street Homecourt is a wonderful leap forward into the high-def next-gen era for the NBA Street franchise. The graphics are wonderful and the action can produce those moments when, as a player, you do a fair imitation of the ‘deer in the headlights’ look. Yep, you will chuckle, laugh out loud, be amazed and generally have a lot of fun with this title.

It's debatable whether the tweaks EA has made to NBA Street are for better or worse; it really depends on your skill level and what you're into. As a whole, though, NBA Street Homecourt is an excellent arcade-sports title that knows no equal on next-gen consoles. It's more user-friendly than ever, has a killer single-player mode, and the advent of its online play will only make you keep it cemented into your PlayStation 3 that much longer.

That year the developers took off between the 3rd and 4th installments really paid off. Not only does the game have a fresh style to keep it relevant, it spiced up the gameplay to make it the premier arcade basketball game of all time. While the Street series might barrow from NBA Jam's play book, it is a much better game. It's finally time for NBA Jam to move over, there is a new king of the court named NBA Street Homecourt. Homecourt is not perfect but, for now, the freshman next-gen outing a great show piece for any sports fan.

NBA Street Homecourt is an all-around great game. I’m not the biggest of basketball fans, but I found myself spending much more time than I originally thought I would with Homecourt. The only downside is that the game is incredibly short and shallow. However, the gameplay more than makes up for it and sets a great foundation for future games.

NBA Street Homecourt is a great addition to the sports library on next-gen consoles and a step up for EA's vaunted franchise. The Trick Remixer and new Gamebreaker system will have you jumping out of your gaming chair. Visually, the cartoony-art style surely helps keep the framerate at a blazing 60 fps, with an excellent animation system. While the teams rosters could use and update and the Homecourt Challenge a bit more drama, the gameplay is as good as arcade hoops gets. IGN officially gives NBA Street Homecourt "mad props."

EA has taken some criticism recently for the declining quality of its sports franchises. However, when the company devotes itself to getting something right, like it has with the Fight Night franchise, it can still deliver some very impressive work. The truth in this statement is evident in NBA Street Homecourt, a dramatic reinvention of the company’s popular street ball series.

For sportos, this should be an instant purchase. Casual fans of basketball won't be at a disservice to check this game out either, and it's good enough that I'd recommend it to anyone who just likes fun games, period. Easily the best entry in the series yet, the game delivers a solid package well worth its price tag.

Rather than slapping some makeup on the previous NBA Street game and calling it a new game EA decided to do some major surgery for this installment. This is not something we are used to from EA, but I have to hand it to them, they did an excellent job of rejuvenating the somewhat stale concept of over-the-top street basketball. If only they included more playmodes and polished the engine a bit to avoid some of the issues that pop up here and there. As it is NBA Street Homecourt won’t win any GOTY awards, but every sports lovers should still have it in his/her game library.

NBA Street Homecourt gets old after a while since it lacks the options found in the more robust NBA 2K7, but players will delight in its light hearted take on basketball. Its theatrics, coupled with its gorgeous visuals, make it a fine addition to everyone's collection.

There's a lot to like about NBA Street Homecourt's debut on the PlayStation 3. The controls are easy to learn, the gameplay is as tight as ever, players look great and move well, and the soundtrack is top-notch. As any good game should, Homecourt leaves you wanting more, not only because it's so much fun, but also because there isn't enough to do. However, there are worse things you can say about a game other than it left you wanting more.

All-in-all, Street's debut on next-gen consoles is an impressive one and if you're into arcade basketball goodness (as you likely are if you're reading this) then Homecourt is most definitely for you. To be perfectly honest, we would have liked to have seen a few more game modes, or in a perfect world, the ability to play as the NBA legends (nothing beats nailing the air Jordan over your friend in Street 2). Nevertheless, minor gripes aside, Homecourt is a deliciously addictive baller and a commendable next-gen Street effort on EA's part.

NBA Street Homecourt is a breath of fresh air to PS3 owners who may have been getting tired of the lack of new titles on the shelf. It may be a bit thin in the modes department, but that's not all that unheard of when a series makes the leap to a new and more powerful console. Where development did put in the time was in coming up with a logical and intuitive new control scheme that lets you showcase all the moves that Street vets expect. Toss in some surprise new moves and the sweet visuals and you end up with a game that'll make you feel that much better about dropping a car payment or two on your shiny black box.

Overall, NBA Street: Homecourt is probably the most entertaining and enjoyable sports game available for the Playstation 3. While the Homecourt Challenge mode gets monotonous, the offline multi-player is where this game truly shines. It takes you back to the days of those “BOOM-SHAKA-LAKA” NBA Jam dunks at your local arcade, only now you can enjoy it in the comfort of your own home.

There’s no such thing as a “bad” NBA Street game. Every installment brings something new to the table, and typically builds upon the great offerings from previous installments. Homecourt looks, sounds and plays greatly, but it seems they lost the essence of what made V3 so phenomenal. If Homecourt was a little bit more like…well, Homecourt, it would be more of a highlight. To be entirely honest, if EA gave the player more control over their character and their court, this installment would have been the game it should have been. Instead, it falls slightly within the shadow of its predecessor.

Luckily, Homecourt doesn't grow old after just a round of playing. Because nearly every aspect of Homecourt is a game within a game it doesn't begin to feel stale after only a few minutes. From building up your gamebreaker meter on offense to the defensive steal/push to the potential double dunk lurking underneath every slam. This game is a gem. It's also the first fun arcade sports title to hit the next generation of consoles.

Console Monster
Overall the game looks gorgeous and it plays perfectly on the PS3. The unreal alley-ops and dunks are gob-smackingly good. The challenge mode can get repetitive after a while and the online mode is very bare which is annoying as they could have done so much more with NBA Street Homecourt. Saying that, single player and multiplayer games can get ridiculously addictive and you’ll be dreaming of double dunks and alley-ops for a long time.

NBA Street: Homecourt isn’t quite the show stopper I thought it would be, but it’s hardly a disappointment either. Its career mode is a short experience and the graphics and sound don’t push the PS3 to its limits - even the gameplay has some frustrating features, but the innovation and entertainment for those who persevere through the learning curve and mundane early matches using rubbish players more than make up for that. The animations and lighting effects make for a wonderful atmosphere to the game and it is a blast to play with friends online or off. While not quite as good as it could have been, Homecourt is probably the best streetball game we will see on PS3 until the next instalment in the Street series.

Gaming Target
At the full asking price, NBA Street Homecourt is a rushed, shark-jumping next-gen cash in from the masters of such practices, EA Sports. How can anyone cut back the meat of the game and charge $10 more than before? Well, that's what's happened here and thus the game suffers greatly in the apparent need to get a next-gen game out in a hurry. If you've never played a Street game you might dig the stylish and action packed action, but even then I'd recommend hitting the bargain bins and finding copies of at least NBA Street and NBA Street Volume 2 instead, as they're far more addictive and fun than this average at best sequel. You'd be saving some money and getting a pair of high quality games rather than one total disappointment. It's still good and playable, but when you come to expect a high level of greatness from a particular franchise, merely good isn't enough.

The Video Game Critic
NBA Street Homecourt comes up short on the solo tip, but when you're in a competitive mood with your friends, this game is a slam dunk. Make that a double slam.

Game Shark
Overall, NBA Street Homecourt is leaps and bounds better than EA’s other basketball game, NBA Live, but still isn’t gaming perfection. It’s not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon, but there isn’t a whole lot of depth or replay value in the game. Instead of “just one more game” you’ll probably be saying “ughh one more game to get this next achievement.” Fans of the series will love it, but for the rest of us, it’s probably only worth renting.
