Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty is a wonderfully enjoyable bite-sized helping of game goodness that will keep fans ticking over until the full release next year. Despite the lack of hidden goodies and the limited arsenal, it still has all the hallmarks of quality we've come to expect of the series and makes for a great introduction to newcomers, although you should really pick up Tools of Destruction first, if you haven't already. At a bargain price, every fan should download this now, and if you still haven't joined the party then you really have no excuse not to dive on in.

Darkstation
Quest for Booty is a great, although short, title that is perfect for its PSN release. We get a full fledged Ratchet game except shorter and for a much smaller price. All aspects of the game are refined and improved and the change from heavy shooter to more platforming gameplay is a welcomed and refreshing change. The visuals are an improvement to last years beautiful game. As I said before this is a must buy for any fan of Platforming or the previous Ratchet games so do not hesitate and buy it immediately.

Some may complain that the game is short, or that there aren't enough weapons, or some such thing, but they need to keep in mind that Quest for Booty is a downloadable PlayStation Network game. Downloadable games never look this good, feature such polished and refined gameplay, or are ever this much fun. Quest for Booty is a must have for Ratchet & Clank fans and is easily recommendable to everyone else.

Those downloading this one expecting the next "big game" in the series might be let down, but if you know what to expect--and you probably will when you spy the $15 price tag--you're in for a highly-produced, perfectly-paced action/adventure that fits comfortably into the R&C canon. Whether you began busting up baddies as Ratchet on the PS2, or this is your first go-round with the lovable Lombax, you'll find QfB is one of the best titles to ever trek down the PSN path.

Game Chronicles
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty offers some cool new gameplay ideas that are certain to be revisited in the next major sequel. When the game was over I have to admit I wanted more, but not because I felt cheated; only because I had had such a great time I didn’t want it to end so soon. I am totally stoked for the next Ratchet & Clank coming in 2009 and any additional episodes Insomniac might want to sneak in before then.

Ratchet and Clank fans should really find themselves loving everything about Quest For Booty. At $15, this is one of the best bang-for-your-buck deals out there for all gamers. With AAA quality presentation, complete with superb visuals, voice acting, and gameplay, Quest For Booty is a quality product any way you look at it.

Extreme Gamer
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty continues the standard Insomniac set in Tools of Destruction. The production values are on par with the full-version game in the mini-portion of an online download. Ratchet fans will want to download the add-on adventure to gain another piece in the storyline which follows up Tools. The only drawback to throwing down your cash for Quest for Booty is its short game length. Aside from the questionable price point vs. game length, Quest for Booty is a solid quality platformer that will please any gamer looking for a fun adventure as their favorite Lombax.

Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty is short, beautiful and is perhaps just enough to tide you over until next year. I’m not entirely convinced about the distribution method but overall it’s a good value for the money and as long as you’re connected, you’re ready to go. AAAAAAR matey!

GamingEvolution
Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty, though only 3-4 hours in length, packs a great deal of content that rivals several other high profiles titles on the market. With the price tag of $14.99, some may argue that the game length doesn't justify the price mark, but when you look at the fact that most gamers took 12-16 hours to complete Tools of Destruction, the price works perfectly fine. Though fall 2009 isn’t too far away before coming into contact with the next installment within the Ratchet & Clank Future series, the demand will definitely be high.

Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty is a good games that looks very nice. The story isn't very complicated, but there is an enchanting atmosphere in the game. The magnetic powers of your wrench give Ratchet more possibilities to complete his quest. Though the game is short, it won't bore you a moment.

UGO (UnderGroundOnline)
Unfortunately, Quest for Booty does not actually push any of that core story forward. It does provide a pleasantly pirate-y distraction that reminds us why we like the Ratchet & Clank franchise so much. But it’s just unfortunate that the adventure merely took us a step towards reuniting the duo, and didn’t culminate in bringing the titular pair back together--however much we enjoyed the game’s final, teasing, cutscene.

But playing through the game, these concerns only bothered me every so often. During the four hours or so it took to complete this game, I had nearly lost track of everything else I was supposed to do. The game's stunningly beautiful visuals, coupled with a decently funny script made for an enjoyable adventure. By the time I was done with it, I immediately had the urge to play through the game again -- something that I rarely do -- just for fun. For the price that it's at ($15), the game is well worth it for the fun you'll have.

Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty is like Tools of Destruction divided by four. It's a fourth the length and a fourth the price, but it's almost as brilliant as its predecessor, and that's saying something.

All in all, if you are a fan of the series you will no doubt be impressed with Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty. And you absolutely know what to expect: gadgets and guns are this franchises staple. If you are new to the series this is not a hard game to pick up on. You might be a little confused as to why someone who looks like a cat, or a fox, or whatever you think he might be, is looking for a little robot, but it will all make sense in time. During that time, you should be able to crank out hours of fun in Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty.

Gamer 2.0
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty is certainly up to par for what the previous games have given us in the past, but in a much smaller scale at about three hours to beat, give or take some time depending on your Ratchet experience. At about one-fourth of the time to beat the game for about one-fourth of the price of the full experience, Quest for Booty’s $15 price tag certainly falls in line for a very reasonable cost for what you get. As a good snack for Ratchet fans that are waiting for next year’s installment, Quest for Booty’s certainly a good taste. Those who have hesitated to pick up any of the previous Ratchet games, this is certainly a cheaper way to see what you’ve been missing all this time. Either way, for a reasonable amount of money, you can get a reasonable amount of great gameplay that is well-suited for the two different crowds this game is targeting.

At £10 Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty is well worth a download (or a purchase on Blu-ray in Europe). Compared to some other PSN titles it doesn't offer the same replay value, but it more than makes up for this in production values and overall quality. If thought of as a mini-adventure rather than a full game it ranks up there with the best the series has ever offered and as such is essential to all action loving PS3 owners.

If you can accept its shortcomings, this Ratchet and Clank should suit your needs. After all, $15 is a small price to pay for blasting things to bits. For that money, make sure you take this Booty call.

Insomniac tried something different – and it’s a good attempt. It might have a place in a different game, but when it comes to Ratchet & Clank, it really needs to be a grand adventure that consumes days, not hours. This is a good game, make no mistake about that. It is a solid R&C release, despite its shortness. It would not get a good score without being a high-quality game. But when you are building off an established franchise, anything less than what is familiar is … well … less.

As you can see from what I have written above, Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty still manages to cram in the innovation even with a smaller adventure, sure some of the things you will have come to expect from the series are sadly missing, however it is to the developers credit that the game still feels as fun and original as ever.

A solid, well written game that's bit on the production values. It's a little on the short side but it does serve as a nice warm up for the next game.

Quest for Booty's a fine addition to the Ratchet & Clank world, but what should've been a love letter to fans ends up serving better as a taste of what outsiders are missing -- and, as a fan, that makes me just a little bit sad.

ZTGameDomain
This is a title for the fans, and if you are not a fan you should pass. The game is shallow, but focused, and Insomniac's aim is clear: short, sweet, episodic content - but Quest for Booty gives the player the sense that Ratchet just isn't meant for episodic styling. The game is by no means a bad game, it is being judged against some of the best games out there: other Ratchet titles. With competition like that, there is no escaping that the Booty is just too small to satisfy.

Play.tm
I seem to have been very critical of QfB which is a little unfair, the problem here is that Ratchet and Clank have raised the 3D platforming bar to such a height that anything less than the full experience is always going to fall a little flat, however good it may otherwise be. As current gen platform games go this is still one of the best even in a bite-sized package. As a Ratchet and Clank game however you're left yearning for all the bits they've left out. If you're a fan then there's enough platforming fun here to warrant its purchase just don't be expecting Tools of Destruction 2. If you're new to the world of Ratchet and Clank then this diluted iteration of the formula isn't the place to start, pick up a copy of ToD and experience the proper thing.

PAL Gaming Network (PALGN)
As far as a downloadable episode goes, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty serves its purpose extremely well. The experience is fun, fast and furious throughout the four hours that it lasts and fans will definitely get a kick out of seeing how the story has progressed. Minor faults have carried over from previous games, and there are aspects of the package that could have been handled better. However, overall it’s a great little game at a very reasonable price and a great advertisement for future downloadable content.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty is a solid experience and a definite must buy for any fan of the series, but I just can’t shake the feeling that this game would have been served better coming a few months before the next retail Ratchet game, instead of a full year.

GameSpot
Quest for Booty is the finest console Ratchet and Clank adventure since Up Your Arsenal, even when you factor in the missing ingredients. The excellent pacing makes this the most focused game in the series, and the visuals and control live up to the high bar established in previous Ratchet games. It won't sway those who have given up on the franchise, but anyone looking for a platformer that focuses on nonstop entertainment will find a lot to love here.

Cheat Code Central
I still recommend this game to fans of the series and newcomers alike. If you haven't played a Ratchet and Clank game before, this is certainly a good place to start since it has a very short play time. At fifteen dollars, it also isn't much of an investment, as long as you don't count time wasted waiting for it to download. Still, if you can manage to busy yourself until the game is on your hard drive, Quest for Booty is a good game that will help fans fill the gap between Tools of Destruction and the unnamed next game, set to come out fall 2009.

IGN
Certain games are just meant to be big in scale and scope -- RPGs, 4X strategy ventures, sandbox games, and yes, Ratchet & Clank titles. Anything less ends up playing like a half-realized game. So, while Quest for Booty does provide a decent gameplay experience for a competitive price in addition to a very (very) cool twist on the already-mysterious Zoni kidnapping of Clank, it’s a little too shallow for its own good -- episodic or not.

Digital Chumps
Quest for Booty is a $15 representative from a full priced, top tier franchise. It's an experiment in product delivery that I would love to see more developers embrace as in-betweens for their main line titles. In a way, I appreciated QfB more for what it represents than how it actually played. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every second of this offering, but I'm hoping it's simply leading the charge for mini adventures from the likes of Nathan Drake, Altair, and other top tier franchises. If a $40 extended demo of Gran Turismo left a bad taste in your mouth, a more appropriately priced $15 sample of what's in store for Ratchet digests quite a bit easier.

Boomtown
I’ve already mentioned the production values, but they can be compared to any full priced retail title on the market favourably. Music is as swashbuckling and engaging as the mightiest of pirate themed adventures, and all of the voice actors make a welcome return to perform the characters that appear with obvious talent and great direction. It’s really a question of quality over quantity, and though some may balk at the £9.99 price tag for such a short non replayable experience, the actual gameplay reminds us all how platforming should be fun. Fans of the games should pick this one up, but only after exhausting Tools of Destruction’s complete features, since that’s a lot more game for just about twice the price. That said, it’s a great tease for the next Ratchet & Clank game. 2009 can’t come quickly enough.

Eurogamer.net (UK)
Which doesn't leave a lot to be enthusiastic about, as we can only mention the wrench abilities so many times. Quest for Booty is a solid, funny little platform game with good camerawork and controls so long established that their pristine execution scarcely warrants mention, but it feels so much like a regular Ratchet & Clank game that it's jarring to discover it ends so quickly, leaving us to damn it over and over again with faint praise. At GBP 9.99 it's probably worth it for a couple of evenings of entertainment, but for all the respawning swashbucklers and the catchy Pirates of the Caribbean style theme tune, it could really do with another significant hook.
70
TotalPlayStation
Though Quest for Booty, again, isn't a bad game, it's not a good Ratchet game, and in the end that makes for a slightly disappointing and possibly even overpriced offering. With zero replay value and only a few new tricks, this Quest isn't worth taking.
70
Thunderbolt Games
This is most definitely a game for fans of the series, though it may draw in some new players as well. Everything is very straightforward, and there’s even a nice little hint system in case you forgot, or have never played before. The game deserves a recommendation if you’re itching for something new from the genre, but it would have faired better if it were cheaper. The thing holding it back isn’t the length, but rather it’s the lack of anything different that sets it apart. Quest For Booty is an overall decent entry for the series, and other episodic adventures for Clank or Qwark would be interesting to see.
70
Games Radar
Insomniac has also missed a trick by not including Trophies in the game. We’re crying out for devs to start implementing the system and a platformer of Ratchet’s calibre would have been a perfect fit. If you’re after a solid platformer to play through as your Friday night alcohol buzz slowly wears off, Quest For Booty would be a good choice.

Gaming Age
Upon finishing Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, it's fairly obvious that Ratchet and Clank will continue an episodic arc of some sort, and so far, it appears that it may work out quite nicely. If you haven't played Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, I still suggest doing that first, then following it up with some Booty. Even without the extras we are accustomed to seeing in the series, the updated visuals, new mechanics and enjoyable adventure are worth the price of admission.
60
Gamekult
60
Giant Bomb
I guess Quest for Booty just feels like the Aladdin 2 of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. It has all the same elements as the original, but it just doesn't deliver the charm and appeal. Of course, it is an intentionally shorter game at a markedly lower price, so it's not unexpected that some compromises would have to be made. In the end, Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty delivers a quarter of a game at a quarter of the price, and ultimately, you're only getting a quarter of the entertainment.

The A.V. Club
Slick almost to a fault, Insomniac attempts to obscure the fact that Quest is merely more of the same via a façade of bombastic battles that unfortunately wind up being more tedious than exciting.

Game Revolution
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty is a vanilla ice cream cone. It's snack-sized, relatively cheap, and is nice on a lazy summer day. But at some point, you'll probably wish it was part of a float or a banana split. You know, the kind with extra banana, both chocolate and caramel, and more than a few cherries? It'll probably cost you more, but it's worth it for something that is jaw-droppingly delicious over, well, plain vanilla.
